I just got one, because a Bluetooth Autel model I have failed to set electronic e-brake to derive mode. And it couldn’t program key-fobs. I this Launch x431 could fix those issues.
The big question is will you be able update it if you buy a new Toyota in a year or two. I had midrange Autel with supposedly "free life time" updates aimed at DIYers. When I bought a new car i thought perfect i will run the update and at least I will be able to read codes and some basic data. Well... no update :( Call Autel...no updates. So my 2021 bought Autel is now just a brick - since i kid you not most of the models in this 2021 bought Autel are 2014 with some 2017!! Autel does not even recognizes my 2023 Toyota. So Autel's "free life time "updates is worthless false advertisement :(
Excellent review. I bought one last year/ and have 4 expensive ones. This I keep in the vehicle 24/7 the other ones ... NO. Great colour too/ keep it in a black hard-shell container/ nobody sees it at all. Super Well done review.
I ordered one of these, does it work without internet to read codes or program, and can you download any car brand software for free? Also can you still basically use it as an android tablet because I definitely wanna try some other coding apps. Sorry for all the questions haha
Can it work with putting my 10th gen civic in maintenance mode for rear parking break? I’ve seen people do without and the results are 50/50…rather use the tool…
I can’t confirm that myself but if you reach out to LAUNCH, they should be able to verify for you. Their email is at the bottom of the website en.cnlaunch.com/

Technically, the Mall purchased software stay on the device forever, you get software updates for a year. After that year passes, if you want to update to the latest version of that software, you'll need to pay.
Mate when I look on the manufacturer's website I don't see that same device for a X431 Creader Elite v2. Instead I see a device in landscape mode which comes with different levels of access to a set of 54 diagnostic software. Has this been upgraded recently or something?
yes, I also noticed that the product is not on their US-based website and they do not offer support for this particular product. I would suggest getting a product that is listed on their US-based website so you may contact them for support should you have any issues or need further guidance with the product.
good info on the function of the scanner itself, however there seemed like quite a bit of speculation on prices for tools dealerships or professionals use.
can it be used to do calibrations? eg. i had to change the power steering ecu on an isf. the replacement needed to be calibrated. would this be able to do a "special function" like this?
Those other guys are typically opening a Web browser on the tablet size devices and going to various sites for the diagrams. This tool does not have a Web browser and I suspect reading wiring diagrams would be impossible on a screen this small.
This was a good review, better than some of the bigger YT channels have done actually. Another channel reviewing it gave me a link direct to what appeared to be a BMW specific version. I assume the USB port is to charge it? I really want to be able to register a new battery in my 2019 X1 BMW and be able to understand the fault codes, do the brake pads myself etc. I have an electronic park brake and it would be great if the tool could help in the rear brake pads removal.
USB port is there to allow you to power it without being connected to the ODBII port. For instance, to be able to update the software while connected to Wi-Fi in your house. The device has no battery and draws power from the ODBII port.
You can read the generic ODBII codes from any car. The special functions won't exist for the other car brands unless you buy the correct software add on.
Only if your particular car presents that value to the device. My Toyota Tundra does have Trans Temp available, and the Toyota version of this tool can read and display the temp.
Wish I could be as glowing. Just got one and have to return it because it went kaput after a couple hours of tinkering with it. I got the Toyota version. I ran a couple checks, ok fine. Then I tried programming an extra key fob. Started out good, has the choice right at top of the list after pressing diagnostics. It went a couple steps and then wanted a passcode entered. What? How do I get a passcode? I tried a couple numbers. Wrong--then it gave a message, "contact us with your info." Contact who? So I tried again an hour later trying the box label numbers, thinking they might be the registration. Plugged it in, screen lit up for 2 seconds, and then went black. Tried again, same. Kaput. So, after a return, if I get another one, anybody know the trick for a passcode to program a new key? I did pay for the thing.
Sir, the LAUNCH X431 Toyota & Honda clinic only supports the key matching function for vehicles with early anti-theft system before 2008, and you need to do the anti-theft code by yourself. If you need to perform the key matching function for vehicles after 2008, we recommend this LAUNCH X431 Immo Elite or Plus, which can inhibit the support of key programming tools after 2008.
Sir, about the anti-theft PIN code If you are not sure about the anti-theft PIN code of your vehicle, you can find a locksmith or a 4S store to check it, usually he can check the anti-theft PIN code of the car. Because Toyota/honda specialized diagnostic series can't read the anti-theft PIN code automatically at present, LAUNCH X431 Immo Elite /Plus this kind of professional equipment is able to read the vehicle's anti-theft PIN code automatically.
Oops, my fault, it works. Helps to push the accessories button on the car. Disregard the crank info. This unit won't program a key after 2008 though, it turns out.
I have this scanner, and the new V2.0 BBA that is a little better. It has a built-in battery and horizontal display that works better. And it works with cars from MB and VW Group too, not just BMW/Mini.
