Fellow MF fan here, and I have to agree with you. For the first half of this track i was actually thinking that Aesop Rock lyrics would go really well with Lorn beats... I think it would be a sick project album. Loving the Lorn sound!
It's definitely a favorite for me. I have a hard time choosing between acid rain, anvil, and diamond as for which one I like most. I love the whole album "ask the dust". Everything is violence is really good too. I like the newer track Entropyy as well. It's a totally different vibe but very good and it feels like "here's the future of love and bipeds if they're not entirely organic!" Like a sort of cyberpunk feel
I'm late to the Lorn party but one thing I've learned very quickly is that his fan base and the community he's built around his music is incredibly friendly and open minded.

I'm so glad i discovered this song years ago! That bass drop @ 0:30 has become my default bass test whenever I get new speakers/headphones. Absolutely earthshattering with the right setup
I've seen this video plenty of times, looking for my own interpretation. Today watched it out of the blue and something finally hit me. To me, this running man, or whom ever it.. is us. All of, or any of us that are constantly trying to deal with life's stresses, traumas, and pain. The black is the breakdown, the point where we give up or give in to it all. So we keep pushing forward, running from our own insecurities or problems. Eventually it will catch up with us though, as it's probably not the best way to deal with our problems, and as we have a moment of clarity from the breakdown that eventually catches up with us, we hopefully learn, gain some enlightenment... if not, we're doomed to repeat the cycle again.
I love how even death, is running for his life. In this, I see that consciousness itself, is in peril. Nothing wins ... nothing. Be patient, you'll see. When the last proton evaporates, you will see. Will love survive ? I love you all.
I guess we extrapolate based on our experience. I see a guy who is running from the darkness inside looking for some light, running into fantasy maybe - the unicorn. Then the darkness catches him, blends with unrealistic dreams he has. He falls down, cause it gotta get bad before it gets good. Then the light, for a moment, before darkness appears again. I like your interpretation, I just see it as a constant fight with depression, with its ups and downs. Or perhaps it's the same thing in different words?
In the last scene l, the darkness seams to starts spreading from the other side of the window. The starting the cycle again. As if if the protagonist had of stopped running, or that the protagonist had the opportunity to change.
@@GG-cn6es pretty sure Death is death in this video. y;know, Grim Reaper, all that? there's something even Death runs from, something that therefore puts us on an even playing field with Death, makes us peers with Death, and that is the Abyss. The black is the Abyss. And even though the Abyss is more powerful than, and more oppressive than Death, we have to keep struggling, otherwise we are nothing and we have Nothing. Our miracle, as humans, is to be able to not succumb to "That Which Even Death Fears," as long as we keep going- even if it means nothing more than that we're still alive.
I went to bed and turned on Lorn’s a/d album, which is fairly light ambient music. I felt asleep very fast. And then I started seeing the worst nightmare in my life. In one moment I woke up in cold sweat and in my headphones i heard this track playing. TH-cam just decided to recommend it to me ))
Time is the biggest monster of all of us. Its always lingering right beside us. Devouring every moment that passes. Love, loss, life, death... It's all meaningless to times never ending onslaught. A diamond is a prime example of time. Carbon compressed for millions of years, creating a shiny little crystal which people prize and cherish. Where does its value come from? It looks pretty? Its rarity? The fact it took millions of years to form? All of the above? We as humans will never be around as long as diamonds, even though we are both made of carbon. We must constantly move forward, living in the moment, through obstacles of misfortune, never dwelling on the past, whilst hoping that we will live for a fraction of the life of a diamond.
It's taken me a while to come to this conclusion but this might be my favorite bit of Lornage. The visual, the aural, the implications... Yeah, this is it.
The first time I heard this it made me so uneasy and I felt the urge to look over my shoulder like I was being watched. Music that can do that is powerful.

i love this video! to me this video represents someone facing a long dark troubled road completely lost and right when death is at hand he wakes up and realizes his past and over comes and rises to his greatest accomplishment and begins to live life to the fullest
Jason Brown probably because that's what we all end up doing, even after near death experiences (or other very meaningful events) where we change as people, we always end up settling back down into the same familiar routine for better or for worse
Jesus, this one's still a real banger. I like to listen to extreme metal but this is extreme on another level. It's like I feel veins or roots seeping into me connecting to my nerves and the sound just exponentiates as I get further into it. Little tendrils of feeling and perception creeping into me as I get crushed by the pressure of it. It's awesome. This music is beautiful and I can't find the words to accurately describe what I mean by that.

It is so hard for me to put a finger on Lorn's music. If I was forced to choose a description, it would be like creating a video game starting with only the music
So, after watching, and rewatching, and rewatching this video numerous times, I feel like I might have a personal idea of what this video could mean. So, of course, we begin with the young boy (assuming he's a child for the sake of my argument, and his cat. At first, he seems to just be doing his thing, and his cat walks along with him. Later on, the boy walks past a mirror (thing...or whatever), and the cat disappears *into* the mirror, and that's when the dino-run destruction apocalyptic thing starts to wane in on his life, followed by more and more dark things and cats appearing, as well as a unicorn and presumably the grim reaper. My personal take on this is that the kid had a pet cat, and he was a naive, happy child until tragedy struck. The cat died somehow, and then the weight of inevitability and death began to settle on his shoulders. As he ignores his grief, he goes through life becoming hypersensitive to *noticing* tragedies, but apathetic to feeling any regard for them. However, he can't always run from the feeling, as the costant reminder of what started this (the constant phantom cats), as it appears in life at different stages. The unicorn, i also feel, stands for the ghost of what was once his childhood after the music becomes dramatic, and then the constant appearance of the grimm reaper is just showing how life is catching up, and so is death. The fall could be either an existential crisis (and the rebirth could later be his child/next generation), or the boy dying and going through regret at life and realizing that it's over, and the train will arrive at its destination, and he's unable to stop it (and personally, i find this option better because that would also fit in with acid rain where the message seems similar, though its more of the fight against death and then accepting that she's dead, and that her life won't be fulfilled)
This has to be one of the most beautiful insights I've ever read. Idk who you are, but thank you for being human, and thank you for having a beautiful mind. With every sentence I became more and more entranced by your interpretation, you swept me up with your flow of words. Reading this has reminded (and more or less proven) me that other people actually have brains and can think and feel. I haven't been my whole self for almost two years now. Lorn's music made me feel truly alive and truly human when I was 15. I had such wonderful beautiful thoughts. I've been on the verge of suicide for so long and I'm just now starting to listen to his music again. Your comment (along with this song playing) has somehow aided in reinforcement of the broken fortifications of my soul. Thank you for sharing a small piece of your mind. There is nothing I value more than one's mind, their consciousness, individuality, their pure thought.
One of the most captivating music videos I've seen and one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard. Seriously Lorn, thank you for your jaw dropping work. This really is art

Roger Levy you're wrong, you can look up the official lyrics on Google I forget where but the original comment to this chain was almost 100% accurate except for spelling I think.
Regardless of what the meaning of the song is; it is melancholic, rooted in it's theme, and very vibrant. It does what it's supposed to do. It's very powerful. I was tripping nuts when when I discovered this. I wasn't sure what I was getting into when the track started because it's very simple and somewhat abrasive at first with the "duh duh duh duh" which then morphs into something else and something else and something else again. It feels like a tunnel that I'm going through. It keeps changing it's shape. Lorn is pretty good at articulating feeling through sound.
First of all how and why did I only stumble across this recently, I would've loved the hell out of this years ago. Second..... the kitty..... bobbing his head....and skittering across the screen........ :')
Trying to stay ahead of the endless terrors of the world. Running for your life, just to survive the day and figure the next day out as it comes, indefinitely. To survive as long as you can until you can't. Becoming consumed by the life around you and digging out and running away. That's my Interpretation. Because that's all I can reference. A person's reference stems from their experiences and understanding of the world around them. This video is proof that I am not alone. Running from death and just trying to survive. It is what it is.
Those vocals are like some primordial being telling you about the fleeting nature of existence.

The reoccurring thought I have when I watch this vid is. "What ever darkness may bring, keep on marchin."
That bass is Powerful
Yes you are right yohan, I think it's really powzmerful too
It is so hard for me to put a finger on Lorn's music. If I was forced to choose a description, it would be like creating a video game starting with only the music
one of the bests Short Movies i ever watched!!!!
Goosebumps everytime!
meeeeeee too!
2012. Jesus. Dude was WAY ahead of his time.
Just a masterpiece. This track kept me holding on when my granddad died.
This is bloody fantastic
I've just found this masterpiece in 2019.
Happy Lornday
Welcome to the club
Welcome
Good thing you have!
Hello from 2020 guys still surprised by this gem
the breath in right before the drop was a really nice touch
This is amazingly dark. Love it.
It's always out to get us, just right behind you gaining ground. That black mass though 😱
Holy shit, this makes sense!
Even the glitches have significance
Crazy. ive never paid attention to this vid but that makes sense
Garbage fanfic
incredible song...from the heart, from the soul
i have to admit, i really enjoyed this video. fit the song perfectly.
One of the most captivating music videos I've seen and one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard. Seriously Lorn, thank you for your jaw dropping work. This really is art
The Blob that ate everything, he kept running until the world was swallowed whole. At the end he would look back and not see a blob of blackness chasing him, but death.
Finally made it over to your various platforms and bought your work. Thanks for getting us all through these times, I'm sure you never thought you'd be out here keeping people sane through a pandemic
death is never alive for long, for when he is dead he is truly living.
9 years and I'm still in awe of this
"You stay every second. So much paved in whole.
So will I stay in this endless seconds, Suspended on.
They are waste of at selfish dome. But the space I keep - just won't be that long.
It's a best advice, go to paved old road, that's of a STONE."
+barteh2 these are the actual lyrics? say the whole thing, i can make out a part where it sounds like its said "just walked in the room".... how can you make that out, or where did you find the lyrics?
I listened hard and I think these are closer to the real lyrics (at least they make more grammatical sense)
You stare every second
So much building gone
So will I stay in these endless seconds
Suspended on?
I try hardest steel
I try fresh stone
But these nails won't keep
Just wanna build a home
It's the best advice
Got to pave a road
Lay that surface down
Dude I think we're getting somewhere with this XD
For me it goes like:
You stay every second
So much building on
So will I stay in these endless seconds?
Suspended on
I try hardest steel
I try fresh stone
But this base I keep
Just won't be that long
It's the best advice
Got to pave a road
that's of a STONE
Let me know what You think about that XD
Cheers
*(Go to pave a road) sry i'm drunk ;)
Roger Levy you're wrong, you can look up the official lyrics on Google I forget where but the original comment to this chain was almost 100% accurate except for spelling I think.
i have no words for your music, i only hope you never stop
Regardless of what the meaning of the song is; it is melancholic, rooted in it's theme, and very vibrant. It does what it's supposed to do. It's very powerful. I was tripping nuts when when I discovered this. I wasn't sure what I was getting into when the track started because it's very simple and somewhat abrasive at first with the "duh duh duh duh" which then morphs into something else and something else and something else again. It feels like a tunnel that I'm going through. It keeps changing it's shape. Lorn is pretty good at articulating feeling through sound.
It's about cowardice
@@mickeybunts i try hardest steel,. i try fresh stone; the answer is lightning.
First of all how and why did I only stumble across this recently, I would've loved the hell out of this years ago.
Second..... the kitty..... bobbing his head....and skittering across the screen........ :')
Personally, I believe the cat represents companionship. That we're not completely alone in the world falling apart around us.
I dont know how you do it Lorn, but I never fail to be encompassed emotionally and even physically by your musical creations
Can we all just take a moment to recognize that death rode a unicorn to work?
BLOODY LEGEND.
Art makes ordinary people open up to the wonders of life. If the music weren't enough, the comments on this video make it clear that this is art.
I can get over how good both track and visuals are here. 8 bit story telling in such a bold fashion. Fucking love it!
For some reason I keep coming to this artist 11 years later.
