      It's a great design. I like the idea of designing pinball and arcade cabinets as if they were invented today, i.e. not being biased by the older times of mechanicals and CRT screens etc. I really like the rotation aspect as well. Nicely done.

    Martein's 3DPIceland project looks fascinating. I toyed with making 3D maps of my area/points of interest I've visited, but I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination, and any of the open source software I tried to use were way over my head. @@kimnielsen9320 Thanks for the suggestion. Terrain2STL was one of the tools I tried using, and it did get me the closest to what I wanted to reproduce. But, it does have its issues; such as lack of documentation, frequent 404 errors, selection box not rotating correctly, STLs being produced without manifold edges.
      I see someone in the comments section mentioning
      touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu/ so I tried it, but I keep getting the error: "[Errno 28] No space left on device: '/var/www/html/touchterrain/server/tmp/607709924324_dem.tif'" so I might have to try again later.
      Then someone else mentioned ArcMAP, but it's a piece of software that I can't find any mention of using to generate a usable STL file.

      @3DPIceland 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, - Terrain2STL is the "basic" way, - if that gives you trouble, get QGIS, a free software, and get the save to stl plugin, - then for data, it depends on your area, search out DEM data for your area, QGIS can import different types of data as well, - Nothing in my process requers programming knowlage, but those maping software tools can be a battle :), - check out my videos on my 3DPIceland youtube, on how I go about creating my maps in the software I use (GlobalMapper), it's commercial software I use for the mapping generation.

    Over saturated business ideas will keep that speaker company from ever making it to market. There is nothing about that project that shows 2 years of development. Maybe 2 years of spinning wheels.
    There is a reason people don't take basic cheap injection moldable forms to market with a 3D printer...

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speakers can take a while to iterate, depending on what the designer is going for. Injection mouldable? Sure. If you made tens thousands of them. If they're only hoping to sell a few hundred, because they will be pricey for a number of reasons, niche, not too practical, that's a different matter.
      Headphones though, 2 years of "spinning wheels" is NOTHING.
      Apropos injection mouldable! That's another can of worms. The "ideal" material is ABS because it's a pretty dead, essentially a nitrile rubber composite; but you have to have a consistent wall thickness all around, and a maximum of 3mm, and that's not necessarily conductive to building a decent speaker enclosure, it's simply not enough material. What happens if you don't obey the design rules, the parts warp during extraction. It can be worked around but it can get more expensive than you imagine.
      Essentially you're seeing the outer shell and thinking oh let's just order this mass produced, but it's not so simple!
