Thanks for purchasing A Taste of Guam!! Here's something cool about guyuria too: paulaq.blogspot.com/2018/07/guyuria-who-brought-it-to-guam-june-28.html
Glad I found this recipe. I hated how authentic guyuria on the island was. You had to suck it for a while before you can bite it. I used to call it "badyuria", but now this recipe may be the one I am looking for. Thanks for sharing! Hafa Adai!
I've been looking for these cookies for 37 years. My mom was born and raised in Guam. She was a prisoner of war. Well I'm not going to get into the long story. But she went home in 1982. And she brought back a bag of these cookies. They were hard they were sweet. And they look just like the ones you're cooking right now and they were hard. But that's the best cookie I've ever ate my whole entire life. My mom never made those cookies I guess it was really a lot of work watching you do it. . Anyway I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to eat those cookies again. Next year I'll turn 60 when my son asked me what I want for my birthday. I'm going to tell him I want a bag of those cookies. Do they sell them in Guam? . I know that might sound like a dumb question. I know they have a Guam USA store. For surely those cookies wouldn't be that fresh with them. I would gladly pay you to make me some. I will send you the money. I had a brother I still have him he just doesn't talk to us anymore. And my sister Ludy was born there. My mom was born in a Aganya Guam. Salas is our name. I believe I'm related to 75% of the island. I know that sounds crazy too. Anyway I still have a lot of family there but after Mama died we lost contact 💔. My mother's name was Mercedes Siguenza Salad....ty for sharing the recipe
Hafa Adai Rosemary! Thank you for sharing your story. I do not make these often anymore, but I will ask my Facebook friends because a couple of them do have small businesses here in the states that sell Guam food.
On Facebook, give these two a try: 1) DorBen's Island Bakes by Ben & Dorothy Seman facebook.com/DorBens-Island-Bakes-by-Ben-Dorothy-Seman-253765917976743/?epa=SEARCH_BOX
They sell small packets of Guyuria at the Kmart, as well as at the navy exchange. Last time I was there, I bought them by the handful to bring back to the states before I promptly binged on them on the ship and got back to the states with none left. Those cookies are just plain addictive!
@kuraku3 Ive tried some of the mexican version too. It was like a peanut brittle with guyuria instead of peanuts. i bought a small disc of it and broke it apart. it was just like guyuria in guam with a few differences only.
Hi Lourdes, the measurements are in the video, but can only be seen when watched on something larger than a phone -- a TH-cam bug. Also, they are listed in the "Show More" tab below the video.
It's listed in the video...but for some TH-cam reason, you have to watch it on something large than a phone for the list to appear. Here's a link to the recipe: www.paulaq.com/howto.html
I watched ten minutes of video for no recipe? Eh. It's almost impossible to copyright a recipe, and all I have to do is copy it out at the bookstore, halve all the ingredients, and smear it across the internet. Or find someone else's.
Here's a link to my printable guyuria recipe: www.paulaq.com/guamguyuriarecipe.html
Now I know how to pronounce the name correctly. Thank you.
Anytime!

Yes these & coconut candy is what I always looked forward to when family would visit from Guam or my grandma got care packages from her sisters.
Thank you for the video. And, no thank you to the 2 brodi people who disliked it.
