    This is what the ipad pro is supposed to be. Nowadays, all hardwares are pretty powerful, so debating who's cpu is 10% faster is pointless (especially for tablet thermals). The software/os is what is going to limit what work you can get done.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True. I have a 12" IPP gathering dust, its an amazing device but IOS is so limiting. Every time I try to do any work on the iPad I have to jump through so many hoops to get anything done that I give up and grab a laptop

Although their new iPad is quite powerful, I am as you are jumping through too many hoops which at times is mentally exhausting; I am over it. Thus, my reason for a proper portable Windows device, the Surface line very much appeals to me. Previously an eleven-year iPhone only user, now my EDC is a Samsung Note 20.

    Hi there Mash Team, mad respect from India, here the i5 and the i7 models are separated by a whopping premium of $500, although I am not a very power hungry user, or a content creator, just a researcher....still when I do research, I can have in excess of 20 tabs open and a few excel, word and Pdfs open... I have an Xbox and hence gaming is not a need at all with this device....I still rock a MacBook Pro i5 8th Gen with Touch Bar, which seems to be failing on me anytime soon, it has gotten sluggish especially after the latest Ventura Update, I am done with Macs and I always wanted a surface for the longest time I remember.....although getting an M1 or an M2 makes a lot of sense, I am asking you honestly, If I were to switch to a Surface, would this be a good year to do so...? I am eyeing the i5 12th intel model with the keyboard and pen that costs roughly $1800....Please Advise!

I'm personally not aware of any bluetooth headphone model which can properly handle very low latency audio streams... I don't think we are quite there yet. and for a device with a very limited amount of ports, using a dongle won't cut it either. My thoughts as someone that would like a productivity machine but is not blessed with tons of money. This is really frustrating as I like how productive I can be on windows but prefer the speed and stability Apple products bring. Great review. Tbh, I don't get the device at all. Aside from CPU power, throttling and stuff, it has to get the very basics right. This thing is a gadget for people demanding high mobility. In 2022, that means having access to the Internet at all times because without it, it's just a dumb, expensive brick. At this point, they're really just trolling us. I wouldn't be surprised if they omitted onboard Wi-Fi next time around because hey, you could just use a dongle like back in the early 90s.
    It goes without saying that LTE/5G shouldn't even be an _option_ for this type of device, it should be _included_ just like it is on a smartphone. Especially at that price point. And talking about price, this is also what's holding M$ back and not doing anybody any favors. Their Surface line is so vastly overpriced, that it doesn't move too many units. Just look at the nickle and diming essential accessories like keyboard and pen or the price of their Surface Studio, a slightly improved iMac with mediocre 11th gen hardware at a breathtaking $5.5k. And that lack in sales hinders their ability to improve their products. They keep skipping processor generations, sell the same design over and over, etc. making it ever less desirable as time goes on. I don't even care to count the years the SurfaceBook had the same design.
    All they had to do was make proper devices that stand out a bit, priced maybe 10-15% above the competition as to not upset their OEMs. But for whatever reason, Sadella thought he could just turn M$ hardware into the next Apple without having all their ducks in a row. Not happening.
    I myself owned the SurfaceBook 1, which had tremendous firmware problems for months but otherwise at least a decent screen, mouse pad, keyboard and battery life and the Surface Pro 3, which was plagued with even worse firmware problems, having me regularly turn up at appointments with clients where I needed it with a piping hot, almost molten slab of metal and the battery at 0%.
    EDIT: The panel who decided on the size of the mouse pad should be sentenced to a Surface Pro as their only device for no less than 30 years without the possibility of parole.

      I am a bit skeptical toward gen11 vs gen12 comparison. On one side on the paper you have only 2 high performance cores SP9 vs 4 normal ones in SP8, but are those low performance cores truly slower than older gen? Keep in mind that there is a boost from RAM frequency as well. It may still easily be on the similar level. However, present benchmarks look incomplete and therefore inconclusive. Thinking at the moment if I go with 8 with i7 or 9 with i5. I hope we get good comparison soon...

    They lost me at the headphone mic in webcam in line out latency free Jack like apple did with iphones and tablets and no ssd upgrades on any of their laptops.
    Is the micro SD card still there?
    Edit someone said no.
    Microsoft needs to install 2 SSD slots and to memory slots upgradeable, bring back the micro or full size SD card slot and an upgraded line headphone ne out mic in Jack with better dac and amp and digital out.
    Capable of at least 24/192 uncompressed hi res music files and include tidal trials, for Bluetooth add aptxhd variable and low latency and Sony's ldac wireless Bluetooth hires codec. And digital optical out like older laptops.
    Let audio have a top spot for in this system and advertise it.
    And add 2 small tweeters driver and mini sub speaker as wel.

      But yeah they better put the headphone jack back on next refresh in a tmyear it so, they obviously did not survey these to consumers before releasing them.
      Remember the aux headphone jack is multipurpose it is also a mic in and a full quality line out, as well, and great for no latency games, etc.
      Don't get me wrong I love Bluetooth as well, even those non repairable headphones that go to the dump when the battery eventually dies made by green apple and Microsoft. and they will fell.
      It's a profit thing to sell the wireless headphones by banning the wired.
      It is how they got so many vaccinated, you ban the unvaccinated.

      Yeah it should not be allowed and the price they charge to upgrade to 16gb is a joke

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England ปีที่แล้ว

      8GB is low in 2022 and no argument there. But MS and others (most) start at 8GB so the base model can be discounted and be a cheaper starting point. This is good business sense otherwise if the base was 16GB everyone would buy that model and if sold at the same price then MS and others would lose their margins. However, Windows and macOS are now excellent with RAM management and the majority of business users that buy the Surface Pro will be fine with 8GB. If you are doing more, then upgrade to 16GB, but let us be honest, why would you need more for the SP9, as it is not really for gaming, creators or prosumers (no dGPU). The 128GB base is a bit thin, and bearing in mind Apple got trashed for a sensible 256GB base, then MS should get much more flack than they are getting. Sadly, the dominance of Windows means that very few will complain, and I have seen YT videos where the influencer decried 256GB on MB Air, but barely touched on the 128GB MS offerings!

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I get where you are coming from and partially agree but as ram is so cheap at the moment would it kill them to either offer 16gb base or at least make the upgrade sensible? The 16gb upgrade price is criminal. And with regards to ssd, I would moan about 128gb but I don’t think 256gb is a problem for max or windows, a lot of people keep very little on the device these days. I just picked up a m2 MacBook Air with 256gb and I k ow I won’t fill it. I guess at least with the surface you can upgrade the ssd if 128/256 is t enough

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MashITTech I agree, the £200 extra for 16GB is a bit rich, but that is where they make their margins, and after all, MS and Apple are in it for the money, being stock market listed, they are there for the shareholders, not consumers! I get why they do it and although I do not like it, it does mean the base model is lower and often discounted, which means that these great devices can reach consumers with lower disposable income. I am pretty sure that if they started at 16GB they would just add £150 to the price and that would take lots of consumers out of the equation. A MB Air starting at £1250 with 16GB of RAM would kill their MB Pro 14 sales!!!

It's too expensive for it's value, it doesn't come with a pen, keyboard, earphone jack etc. The only good thing about this that it can take good notes? Any other less expensive tabs can do the same... I wish Microsoft would listen to critics (or maybe consider common sense and what the buyers want)
