I can't thank you enough for doing this video! I've been on your facebook page for 2 days trying to understand exactly what this 1982 - D is all about & I've searched youtube... My friend, this was a great video! Thank you soso much :)
Hey Dustin, I have a 1982 small date penny that weighs 3.11, my question is, is that 3.01 & 1/10th of a 10th of a gram, or is 3.11 grams? I've never messed with the metric system, that tells you I'm no 20 years old..haha You do make the best videos my friend :) Thanks :)
I think I just found one. A 1982 D with a really well defined "2" with a thin bottom on the "2" and the little crevice where the bottom line and upward sloping line join together is also well defined.
I am an avid coin collector and sports cards and memorabilia collector. I have found many varieties of errors on the State Quarters and Territorial Quarters, however, unless i can plainly see them, I have problems finding what might be some errors that I have missed, therefore, i intend to buy the microscope that links up to my laptop, because, I have some really cool errors, that I have yet to see mentioned on any ot the collector sites. I have even found cuds on eagle and bicentenial quarters. Since I love collecting coins so much, because of what you guys do on you tube, I have decided to start a coin collecting club. Thanks so much for your valuable information and coin examples that you have shown me, you make collecting so exciting. You see, not too many people I know collect coins. Therefore, I now have sources, my friends, who are always willing to exchange coins with me for face value. Or, they just give them to me outright. Yes, I have some great friends. Please keep your valuable videos coming. Thanks Again!...By the way, I don't subscribe to any of the sites, not because i don't want to, but because I have gotten burned by people who I have given my credentials in the past, and such has cost me dearly.
I have in my hand right now a 1982 D small date penny that weighs 3.1 grams and is in excellent condition. It looks identical to the one in Kens picture and the weight is dead on 3.1 grams on my digital jewelers scales. I'm going to take it tomorrow and have it checked out. Keep your fingers crossed as there might be another about to pop up, but in far better condition. Thank you for sharing this video.
I apologize that I never got back and told the news rather bad news. No it wasn't a small date and after looking at a small date up close in real life I now see the difference. I was able to look at a small date but not the 3.1 gram just a regular small date 1982. It's kinda hard to see it on video or pictures but definitely easy to tell in person. But I'm always searching through coins and my change so maybe one day I'll get lucky and find something worth a lot of money.
I found a 1982 D copper penny. Weights 3.04 and has doubling on the D mint mark. I was trying to find out would it be worth getting it graded? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Hi Dusting hope your well, I discovered today I've got 6 coins from 82 that all weigh 3.1, only 1 with d and 5 without, cant be 100% if they are large or small date, at a guess, I think the D is a small date & possibly 2 with no mint mark, was wondering if the large date has any value? think i need better magnifier to be 100%, please give me your thoughts or advice, much appreciated, and big upz
I recently searched all the pennies that I've saved over the years and found a total of 13 1982d small date copper 3.1gram penny. Most of them are in very well condition.
Well you know I found one of these pennies small date exactly what you said there about the one being longer I can see it with my naked eye and in my jewelers loop I just don't know how to submit it because there's no number I can call I don't have a computer I think that link you put out there at the end of it I think I got to listen to it cuz I definitely have one I don't know how to send pictures to show anybody I have pictures of it now but I don't know how to send it to like the place I have to or just out to you or anybody else I have the money to get it graded probably I meant stage 50 probably more
Yes, the weight is the error. The small dates were supposed to have the zinc core and weigh 2.5 gr. The large dates up until the transition in 1982 are 3.1 gr.
Angel. The 82-D sm. date was only meant to be struck in copper coated zinc. A few were struck on bronze blanks, called planchets. They look identical. The only way to discern the difference is to weigh them. Zinc is 2.5g the bronze is 3.11g.
3.1 gram's it would weigh if the winner some Penney's have different weight more zinc covered with copper you know Im not going to keep going your welcome
I was just gonna ask where are the articles listed?! I find such great value in what you share and I have bags full of the 80s separated into two years each but I can’t find a microscope that works for me and I’m doing the best I can and I found some things but I’m not sure, I will just keep looking and Learning and definitely go to the copper coin’s website For more information on each year thank you so much for all that you teach
I am new to this I have a 1982 D small 3.1 gr and a 1982 that is also 3.1 gram. I have been sitting on it about 1yr now where can I take it to get authenticated.
I am just trying to get started here and a little bit unsure of these 1982 cents. Copper, Brass, Zinc, Bronze, what coating which. Please help me get a handle on this. I hear one version and see it written differently, then hear it said another way. Who's on First?
I have several penny’s that weight 3.1 and they are 1982 d what can I do to find out if I have the right one because I don’t think all the 1982 d penny’s are the ones they looking for .
Thank you so much cause you now have the second one found you just made me a happy person can’t wait to send it out to grade thank you thank you thank you
Hi coin opp i had a question i have a 1960 d penny that weigts 2.5 is this an error coin or is this normal penny ...looking forward to hear your reply thanks
so what if you have a large date thats 3.1g, is that worth anything?? and ive got an '82-D w/ alot of deep red & gold coloring on the dated side and covers almost the entire coin except where the date is and the very front of lincoln's coat, very odd coloring, i thought it had been painted when i first saw it but in sure now that its in the metal
Hi Dusting another excellent vid big upz m8, i have an 1982d copper 3.1gms but think it might be large date, if so, do these still have any value or is it only the small date?
love the videos you are putting out I'm a beginner coin collector last year I just started to weigh them to see what was the difference as some pennies weighed 2.5 grams and 3.1 grams in the 1982 category as I have at least two or three of the 1982 3.1 grams not sure that they'll be worth that kind of money but I will be video it and sending it to you somehow see what you think once again love you videos
OK so we r suppose to be looking for a small date 1982 D that weighs 3.1 right? I have some small date 82's without the D that are bronze they weigh 3.1 which I seen was listed on ur list how much do they run in value ? obviously way different but still curious please Thanx in advance enjoyed the video :)
so i got a 2015 BU eagle on sunday and there is a nick by the date and its shiny like the rest of the coin and there are no signs of wear around the nick. Is this an error? Keep in mind it is BU
Just went through all my 1982-D Lincoln Heads.... found 6 that weigh 3.1 grams. Now to figure out if its small or large date.... wish i could share photos to gain some insight!
I think the weight here is the important factor...also the lettering would somehow be flatter as apposed to round...these would indicate a brass with copper coating... The zinc coating weighing in at 2.5grams would become the official coin from that point on....
I just commented I do have a 1982D penny and I'm pretty sure it's a small date. I would definitely like to know if it's worth anything because I am flat broke . Thank you
So basically if you have a large date that’s normal, and not even a philly small date is worth much it has to be a Denver mint to be worth money, correct?
If you can't be bothered to remember, why should anyone help you? Besides, the topic here are 1982 pennies. PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

John Petzold the reason i ask is that Mr. ken potter have one that weigh 3.o8 and the one he have weight 3.1 it is possible that the 3.2 could be a traditional coin.

I recently searched all the pennies that I've saved over the years and found a total of 13 1982d small date copper 3.1gram penny. Most of them are in very well condition.

Another example: 1982 Large date appears that the 8 is lower than the 1.

Actually, I did find this on Wikipedia;

1864-1942 bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) 48 grains 3.11
1943 zinc-coated steel (also known as 1943 steel cent)42 grains 2.72
1944-1946 brass (95% copper, 5% zinc) 48 grains 3.11
1946-1962 bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) 48 grains 3.11
1962-1981 brass (95% copper, 5% zinc) 48 grains 3.11
1982-present brass (95% copper, 5% zinc) 48 grains 3.11
copper-plated zinc (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) 38.6 grains 2.5
Helped me some, hope it will help others with the same question.
