There are several scenes in international cinema as well as bollywood
Where directors leave the gap to make the scene iconic...take example of titanic death of Jack...or in Ghajini where Kalpana could not know before her death who the sanjay singhania was...sometimes such kind of gaps are in the movie in order to make movie iconic...

The pregnant woman scene was a mistake. By the rules of jauhar, pregnant women couldn't take part in it. And, the leaders i.e. the queen always made sure that a small group of young men and women leaves the place safely so that they can reclaim their place in the future. Anyway, except that one minor mistake, the scene truely was a mesmerizing one.

The scene from the movie "Bhag Milkha Bhag"- When after the separation period of India, in a scene when Divya Datta has to compromise with a man for her brother and her safety. When she came out that hut after sprinkling water on her face that scene choaked me and in the last when Farhan Akhtar returned to his sister house and she didn't recognise him but after then when Farhan handover his coat to her sister OMG the acting of Divya Datta again choked me even after that I'd to take a glass of water. So gald that you put out your view on the padmavaat climax sequence. Though everyone has a right to differ, but I strongly feel that jauhar scene was directed in most beautiful and dignified manner putting out the essence of the entire movie (why it was made). Probably some couldn't get the point or didn't look into the details well enough. But that climax left everyone numb when the movie got over not knowing what to feel. There was joy and sadness at the same time. That scene definitely elevated to movie to why it became a blockbuster. Complete SLB magic there !!

It needs real guts to choose death over handing themselves over to the Rapists. And for everyone saying it glorified jauhar, jauhar was a reality of the past that needed to be showcased because it was there and we cannot deny that. The women resisted the khilji army..many people fail to notice that. The women fought, there burnt coal but even after everything when they realized that capture was inevitable, they chose death over a life of torture, humiliation and imprisonment.

I really think Swades deserves a re-boot- I would love to see that film on the big screen. The performance of his love interest in that film, Gayatri Joshi, was so brilliant. What a huge loss to Bollywood that this was her only movie. Her first and only film and a performance so deep... I have to watch Bollywood with subtitles, and I rarely go to the movies here in the States anymore because the stories are not moving. I can watch Bollywood and know that the story and the cinematography will be more important than CG. Swades is one of my favorites.I love the theme of this video, because the one improvement Bolly directors could make is to "show not tell" with their cameras- too much dialogue makes a film into a play. This video can serve to inspire Bolly directors to find more moments like the ones you have showcased to mature the editing. However, I love Bollywood. My son had a college roommate from India ( and need up being the "best man" at his wedding) and I will always be grateful to that young man for opening my eyes to this genre of film.

I totally agree with your argument. The whole movie was based on how tactfully she handled all the situations despite her husband not liking it. And in the end she willfully gave up her life which was a slap on the face of Khilji. He wasted so much of time and energy on her just to go it in waste. Couldn't have imagined a better ending for the film. Jauhar was not something that the film celebrated but it made people realise how cruel were the times and we are lucky enough to not be there.

Movies have shifted a lot from the past, where there used to be many dialogues to now where there can legit be lengthy scenes without them. It's all possible due to the cinematography honestly. Ambiguity is presented, which lets the viewer interpret their own thoughts and feelings at that moment.
All of this is possible thanks to the production quality we have today. The theatre/headphone audio, camera work, direction, SOUNDTRACK.etc so many things man!

Though fictitious but the portrayal of that courage and determination in those women was done in an immensely intense way. I watched kalank's trailer and since you've featured Karan johar's directed scene in this video, I'd encourage you to watch the trailer of kalank. The last frame showed in the trailer shows Varun (her lover) running towards Alia in a DDLJ-esque way as the train is moving forward, but before he could hold her hand and get on the train, she slips off the train and suddenly Aditya (her husband in the movie) who's inside the train, holds her hand and prevents her from falling off the train. And then there's a frame in which one hand is being held by Aditya to prevent her from falling off and the other hand is extended towards Varun who's about to climb the train. Zero dialogues but really gripping frame! At least in my point of view, let me know what you think about it!
