      Tiny Tim's act has aged well, with much of Laugh-Ins audience being like Dan Rowan, a WW2 vet, you knew you were going to get a little smarm ," kept him out of the army, heh, heh" But let's face it, if his act wasn't unique, he wouldn't have been there. That said, Dick Martin acting like he was in actual pain, was funny. But the one most in on the joke, was as always Tiny Tim himself.

      @321snoot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I'm also a musician, and here's a story you can probably relate to. My brother (drums) and best friend (bass) did a gig with Tiny Tim at a local hotel back in the 90's. They rehearsed with him for a couple of hours and learned a bunch of songs (old, obscure ones from the 20's & 30's - no sheet music, by the way, just all by ear). Then after rehearsal, he tells them "I might play these songs, but then again, I might not", which scared the sh*t out of this pick-up band, especially considering the place would be packed with 500 people! So, they go on stage that night, and Tiny Tim is just launching into obscure song after song - few of which they rehearsed - sort of stream of consciousness! Talk about sweating it out! (The band had very good ears, luckily.) They said he was really a very nice guy, but a genuine weirdo. But, yes, he was a talented guy.

    I saw this when it first aired. Most of you probably have no idea how popular Laugh In was then. It was so much faster and more adult than other shows at that time. It aired Monday night, and Tuesday mornings everyone at work would talk about it. Despite Rowan and Martin's attitude toward him the show made Tim wildly popular too and we tuned in every week hoping he'd be on. Before all that he'd worked in little Greenwich Village clubs for years. I had the chance to see him then and still regret not doing so.

    Tiny Tim had actually been around for awhile, starting out in the 50's "beatnik" scene. He collaborated with a guy named Hugh Rommney back then doing performance art with another guy who was a musician. Hugh Rommney became the leader of an artist collective called the Hog Farm and then went by the name Wavy Gravy. He's very present in the Woodstock documentary. Tiny Tim went on to marry Miss Vickie on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson.

      laugh in was the top rated show back in its day. they made fun of everything and everyone. people wanted to appear on that show because it was a boost for their career. they made a joke out of everything but it was not mean spirited. everybody got the humor and it was no big deal. now everyone is walking on eggshells and if you joke about someone, and it is not politically correct you run the risk of having your career ruined. and you must make all sorts of apologies. most of today's humor is ugly and mean spirited. only certain groups of people can be ridiculed but it's hands off for others. that's why young people of today don't understand where the "laugh in"show was coming from.

    The great thing about this is once you know Tiny Tim's background you know that he understood the humour of the moment and played into it fully and was really playing up "the character". This is even more evident when you watch the anniversary video where he appeared with other Laugh-In Cast Members who were interviewed about the show. Much like how Goldie Hawn played the "dumb/scattered brained blonde".
