Beecher roughed up in prision and Ryan take Care of his steps different of Jesse wich is kind of naive sometimes. Imagine breaking bad but Walter bitted the tip of a Man member. See the diference? I ALWAYS thought Oz had so many great, Oscar caliber performances. But of course, prison is scary, especially back then, and a show that authentic, that visceral was a real hard pill for many to swallow. So, of course, Oz went on to be so underappreciated. But it definitely paved the road for The Wire, The Sopranos, and many other shows that would go on to get the recognition they deserved.

Just imagine the possibilities and plot lines for this potential spin-off! For example, right after Beecher gets off the phone with O'Reilly, he makes a call to the only person he can think of that may talk to him / help him, Tim McManus! He goes to see McManus at his bachelor pad only to find him drunk and wallowing about his days as Unit Manager at Emerald City in Oz and Diane leaving him to marry some English guard. McManus discloses that he ended up getting a job at Lardner but got canned when he tried to sleep with every female employee there like he did at Oz to which Beecher yells at him to snap out of it and to stop the booze citing his own history with alcohol. He warns McManus about O'Reilly's threat and that he may come after him too later and so enlists his help.
Meanwhile we see O'Reilly walking into some dark alley to meet someone, who turns out to be none other than Miguel Alvarez! We find out here that the SAME dirty cop who testified at O'Reilly's trial just so happened to be the same cop that handled Alvarez's case. Lo and behold he is now on the outside as well, having been drawn back into the Latino gangs as he is unable to find work or live a normal life. O'Reilly pulls his usual manipulation techniques to convince Alvarez to help him kill Beecher in exchange for telling his old Irish-Mafia contacts to let the Latino gangs operate on some of their turfs.
Beecher in the meantime befriends a sympathetic attractive girl named Jenny at his AA meetings who gives him courage to re-connect with his daughter Holly, and over a course of a few days he falls in love with Jenny. But Beecher keeps her at a distance knowing the impending danger with O'Reilly. O'Reilly and Alvarez conjure up a plan to kidnap Beecher's youngest son Harry from college and lure him into Riverside Park where they plan to kill him. Before they commence the plan, O'Reilly states he has to see someone before he does, we see him go to a clinic where he wants to speak to one of the doctors there, Dr. Gloria Nathan! Gloria is shocked to see him there, and he tells her he hasn't stopped thinking about her. He finds out Gloria never really connected with anyone after her time in OZ, and had pretty much dedicated her life to serving the public in the clinic and remained single. Old emotions run high and memories between the two re-surface and they have a full make-out-love session right there in her office. She is open to settling down and having a relationship with him now, but he tells her that he needs to do something and will never see her again after this and bids her farewell, leaving her heart-broken.
Beecher finds outs from Holly that Harry has been kidnapped from NYU, and he is crushed again remembering what happened to his first son Garry. He then gets a text from O'Reilly to meet at Riverside Park alone! Jenny warns him of the danger but he doesn't care, he goes and she calls McManus, warning him of the danger. We then see Beecher arrive at the park where O'Reilly and Alvarez surprise him and he sees Harry tied up in Alvarez's car. Beecher demands for Harry to be released and Alvarez complies. We then find out what was O''Reilly's grief with Beecher: at the prison where they ended up after Oz, Beecher got back on the moonshine again and accidentally let it slip to Chucky Pancamo that O'Reilly spiked his drink with heroin during the boxing match with Cyril in season 3, Pancamo is PISSED and he and his wise-guys had then beat the shit out of O''Reilly and almost killed him. It took him months to heal and be able to walk again and he's vowed revenge on Beecher ever since! Alvarez and O'Reilly then jump Beecher with knives only for McManus to show up with his old friend, ex-CO Sean Murphy who is now working for the NYPD! They get into a big lengthy brawl with Beecher knocking O'Reilly down and about to use the knife on him, but at the last moment throws it away, tells him he is done with all this crap, he will not take someone's blood again, and that he feels he finally has a chance at life again, and for O''Reilly to grow the hell up and maybe do the same. O''Reilly has a moment of clarity, and realizes that he does wants to live a normal life again and with Gloria, he shakes hands with Beecher. Alvarez is like WTF, we had a deal for our turfs, O''Reilly tell him to get lost, then Alvarez attacks him but is subdued by McManus and Murphy. Murphy puts the cuffs on him and hauls him off to prison telling him he's going to solitary, after which Miguel screams in anguish! On account of their Irish backgrounds and old friendship, Murphy lets O''Reilly off with a warning.
McManus tells Beecher and O'Reilly that he's proud of them, and to stay clean. He also shares happy news that he got another Unit Manager job at a women's prison (which makes him jump with glee). As they all leave the park, we see the ground opening up in an empty area of the park, a hand comes out of the ground and then a now 80+ year old Agamemnon Busmalis comes out of the ground as well and yells "I'm free!"
O''Reilly goes back to Gloria, and Beecher goes to Jenny's apartment where he thanks her for helping saved his life, and then they sleep together. Jenny then says in bed that it's all she ever wanted for him, to fix him up after he was so broken, make him love again, and then to just take everything away from him again. Beecher is confused and says "what?" after which Jenny shanks him right in the gut, as Beecher lays dying he musters "why Jenny?" to which she replies that her friends call her Jenny, but that her real name is Jewel...............Jewel Schillinger! and that "this was payback for my dad and granddad, prag!". Jenny/Jewel is then arraigned. Holly, saddened by her father's killing, intentionally robs a store in order to get sent to the same Women's prison as Jenny/Jewel is (co-incidentally being the same prison where McManus now works and is trying to bed not only every female CO, but every prisoner once in a while too). And then we find out that the name of this prison is the Zohara State Penitentiary, also known as ZO!!! End season 1! 😂

I love THIS!!!! I love how they addressed certain things throughout the show without naming names or being too specific. For true fans of the show, we knew exactly what they were talking about. It was like we were serving time right alongside them. This was a perfect duel between two of Oz's main characters. At first, you think O'Reilly will wipe out Beecher with no problem. But then when you really reflect on Beecher's own journey we saw a privileged member of society initially getting thrown into the mix with the most hardened of criminals and at first the results are what one would expect. Beecher became Schillenger's "prag." But as the show went on, Beecher became the man he had to become to survive the deadly trenches of Oz, and by this, he became a survivor and ended up becoming someone not to cross. In a way, this was a much earlier version of Breaking Bad's Walter White.
