I could have sworn in the opening “Buck’s Apt.” scene, I saw him sleeping next to someone and even look over at the lump in his bed. And when we close up on Buck talking on his phone, I clearly saw the outline of someone sitting/getting up behind him...any info about that?

I had the honor of hanging out with John for about 3 days straight as his limo driver in Wash, D.C back around 1985. He was so humble (typical Canadian) that I only just found out he was way more successful and financially wealthy than his persona led on to be. What a class act and great soul he was. We went to Annapolis where he was given a VIP tour of the Naval Academy...then most memorable was our stop at the FBI headquarters where he had been given a tour of the facility. Even though I've spent over 40 years driving celebrities, I can say I've never seen one stand and sign autographs for hours (for free), go thru 3 pens and stay until there wasn't a single person around before he let himself leave. I'm still amazed! He was so generous, he even laughed at my bad jokes! What a great human being John Candy was!🙏

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT YE, AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL.
THE GOSPEL (which means the Good News) is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him.
      John 1:1,14 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us,
      Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
      John 1:10 KJV
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.
      John 20:28-29 KJV
And Thomas answered and said unto him, MY LORD AND MY GOD. [29] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Are you saved friend? If you died tonight will you go to heaven or hell?
      Acts 16:30-31 KJV
...what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
      1 John 1:8-10 KJV
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
      Luke 24:47
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
      Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

I think the movie would’ve been better if they finished the story arc with Culkin’s character becoming popular due to Buck. Maizy got a scene where he stuck up for her quirkiness and shamed the school admin, but Miles only got ones with kids looking like Buck made things worse. The 2nd scene in the subplot with the neighbor is super awkward due to a lack of the middle scene at the grocery store where she says she’s attracted to him despite not understanding why. Without that scene it would’ve been best to shorten the one where they are dancing & she’s creepily throwing herself at him down to just her stopping by and saying “so when are you going to ask me out to lunch?” and his gf shows up right at that moment and storms off. With that scene shortened 2-3 mins I think you can add the 8-10 they cut with the lunches & extended clown scene.

Universal Studios had a huge fire in 2008 that destroyed a whole lot of original material; both music and movie masters. As much as I hate to say it, it's entirely possible that any additional footage is not rotting in a vault, but rather, burned in a vault, and it's gone forever. I hope not, though.

I wouldn't give up hope. I remember being surprised when Warner Bros released remastered versions of the first 37 Tom and Jerry shorts on blu-ray from their original uncesored film prints. I, and possibly other people, thought they had been lost in the old MGM vault fire. But, it seems like they were saved somewhere. Although Warner Bros hasn't released the next set of shorts yet, which makes me wonder if some of them are still missing.

Good point but I hope not. Look at the Halloween 6 Producer's Cut. It was said to be lost by Miramax for 19 years, and eventually a negative was discovered after enough looking. Got remastered for Blu, now this pristine HD version it's pretty common in circulation out there. Don't give up hope on it. I just think it's sad that action classics & comedy classics don't get the same TLC on home video that horror does. Would love to see a big anniversary release for Uncle Buck packed with alternate versions and/or bonus content. Even if Universal has to license it out to someone like Shout Factory.

It has occurred where other copies were made and stored elsewhere. Unfortunately they're usually not logged, so it's just luck if they're found. An example is The Wicker Man (1973). The studio behind it (British Lion) hated the Director's Cut so much that they literally destroyed footage they didn't like. Decades later, it turned out the DC had been sent to Roger Corman's company to distribute in the States, and this had played there at the time. British Lion never asked for prints back, and so it stayed with Corman forgotten about. After years of only the BL approved cut on video release anywhere in the world, Corman found the DC and that got released to great reviews!

This seems to be a reoccurring theme with John Hughes films. His films were often double the length of what we finally see, yet as time goes on and DVDs and Blu-Rays come out with the ability to have directors cuts and/or deleted scenes, his films like Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck lack much, if any, deleted scenes. Planes has the deleted scene on the airplane when they have their food, which is likely there since it’s put into the film whenever it airs on television to edit out the scene Neil goes into his profanity laced rant. Unfortunately for Uncle Buck, many of these scenes aren’t available to see outside of the few snippets of deleted footage that we can see in the trailer. It would be great if one day we see home video releases of extended versions or at least deluxe editions of these films that features all the removed footage that Hughes initially had in his first cut of these films in a deleted scenes section. People would defiantly love to see more footage from Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

    • @joes9954
      @joes9954 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

What's interesting however is that a longer version of The Breakfast Club was released in the mid 1980's and played on local TV affiliates. ( In my case channel 20 WTXX in CT) I do not recall any other Hughes movie to receive that treatment. Also the Criterion Blu Ray did not include this other version, nor any of the extra scenes, instead using inferior rough cut footage. There is obviously a market for these early cuts and hopefully a creative executive might try and release them one day. The early B/W edit of Star Wars alone would likely earn Disney a fortune.

One of my favorite movies as well! Thank you for your valuable insight and putting this video together. Completely agree. It is a shame such valuable and enriched content is probably sitting in a basement collecting dust. Scary to think it will be lost forever.

    "Your car's on fire!!"
"No no, it's just a lil oil. .. listen you know where there is a party around here?"
    "Oh, our son is there"
    "Well, my niece is there"
"You better not go there with that hat on, they'll kill ya"

Glad I had this channel recommended.
Very interesting topic. You really did great with the research and narration.
Now this is something I can sit back and binge watch with a large bowl of popcorn.

“What are you guys into? Strippers?” - Uncle Buck summed up in one perfect line.

"Uncle Buck" is my favorite John Candy film. It is also one of my favorite films, probably my favorite comedy.
