  • In today’s video, I demonstrate how to Press loose eyeshadow into a 26 mm pan. I take a Makeup Geek Loose pigment and press it into a 26 mm eyeshadow pan which is the standard 1 inch diameter pan for eyeshadow. I demonstrate checking for binder to the eyeshadow so that you will ensure binder is not necessary to add, I show the 3 step pressing method and some tips and tricks to ensure the final press looks even and professional.
    I also press a loose Inglot Shadow and demonstrate the different consistencies that may occur and what you may encounter when you are pressing a different shadow that may still contain binder. Finally, I show that even though the pigment may contain binder, you may still need to seal the top layer with a spritz of 91% Alcohol on top of the tissue paper to ensure that the pigment gets sealed and won’t fall out of the pan.

      Thank you so much Steven. I am pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD so I often times have feelings of disconnect and failure when I make videos like these. I have difficulty trying to focus and convey my message and it's such a trying process. Thanks so much for watching and supporting!!!

      @@KendraMorgan From this side of the screen, the message seems to be conveyed clearly. I feel like I could do this myself after watching your video. Quick question though... you mention binder a few times. Do you have a similar video that shows how to use binder?

      I have a MUG blush that broke and I filmed repressing it. I will lightly edit and upload it!!! Its probably about the same rough procedure as you'd do with your Vieve highlighter.

    I really want to try this! I think I would just use my pigments more...but I also know I probably wouldn’t take the time to actually do this. I am shocked to see how much more product you get with a loose pigment. Wow. Also, thanks for reminding me to pull out my Inglot pigments.

    Thanks! This was helpful! I bought some loose pigments and wondered if I might use them more if they were pressed.

    • @KendraMorgan
      @KendraMorgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use mine more when they're pressed for sure. I will rarely touch a loose pigment just because of the potential mess I could get into.

  • @crazedazed
    @crazedazed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ohhh man. Your hands are so steady!! Mine are so shaky I don't think I could ever make this work haha! And the mess would make me so anxious. It's great you are teaching people how to do this though, maybe it will help people use their pigments more often! I know mine can go neglected.

      Ha ha ha I did want to be a surgeon but I wasn't smart enough for that!
      I just kinda make a day of it and honestly, the mess doesn't bother me too much because it will clean up.

    Would magnesium stearate and/or magnesium myristate count as binders? Could I press an eyeshadow with just those or would I have to add an additional binder?

    • @KendraMorgan
      @KendraMorgan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, those should count as binders tbat are well enough to press and hold. I will say I'm editing a video right now with flakier textured pigments and pressing them. I wish I had some of that binder on hand I would probably mix a drop or even 2 in with a chunkier type of shadow so just so experience I'll share. Hopefully I can get it posted today so you'll be able to check it out in further detail and see exactly what I mean.

    So you just spray the alcohol into the bottom of the pan that one time and don’t spray it onto the powder before pressing it?
    EDIT: With the inglot one you did a spay on the tissue paper the last time you pressed it. So do you do that every time or just with softer ones like that?

    • @KendraMorgan
      @KendraMorgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, as long as there is a binder present (dimethicone, isopropyl myristate, etc) you won't need to add anything and you can dry press. Alcohol is used more to control the packing. It's not a binding agent. It's used to help tamp and pack and also it can be used to thoroughly mix a binder when you add your own. I hope that helps!!!
      Yes, the inglot shadow was a but chunkier/flakier so I though a spritz over the top of the tissue you might but in retrospect, it didn't really do anything so probably should have just cut that part out.

    • @onewhisper22005
      @onewhisper22005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KendraMorgan thanks! It helped! I checked the ingredients on the ones I wanted to press. Dimethicone was the second ingredient for them. I put one in a pan, pressed it down, and it won’t set. Just stays as powder as soon as I touch it 😔 Any suggestions?

    • @KendraMorgan
      @KendraMorgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@onewhisper22005 adding a piece of non-transferring tissue or sheet can help you to press the product without getting the actual press stuck. If you had enough material (like in my case with the MUG I have several grams of product) you could add a drop of mineral oil, isopropyl stearate, or a binder of your choice to a pan and add some 91% isopropyl alcohol, mix binder Into the alcohol to make homogeneous, then try mixing the loose shadow and pressing from there. I wouldnt so this unless you are willing to forfeit a shadow because this doesn't always work but If you have enough, You might give it a try.

    What you can use as a binder?

    • @KendraMorgan
      @KendraMorgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Isopropyl myristate, mineral oil, glycerin, or dimethicone are a to name a few!!! I've seen good luck with isopropyl myristate and hand pressing myself.
