I’ve been in some places where fire meant start and some where fire meant to finish
(Like coming in penne all’s vodka table 4. *makes sauce* fire table 4! *tosses pasta in sauce and plates*)

For you sir. I won’t skip ads.
I mean TH-cam just gave me one’s that I can’t skip. But the sentiment is there.

This was really fun and I loved that you tried to find origins for some of the more unique terms, super interesting.
    "That's some cowboy-cook shit." 🤣

I needed to know absolutely none of this information, and yet I watched the entire video anyway. Super interesting to know, thanks for breaking it down for us plebs. 👍

Thanks for the explanation of “all day”. Heard this a couple of times at my new job and thought that’s what it meant but was too embarrassed to ask.

I mostly cook as a hobby but surprisingly I understood a lot of the lingo the first time around

I worked in a kitchen at a summer camp where, for reasons I don’t understand, ketchup was called Kieth. So if someone said “there’s a table looking for Kieth” or “I’m going to get Kieth” it meant they were going to get ketchup

"Cobbler" meaning shoemaker/bumbler is the source of a joke at the beginning of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, too. Just some bonus snooty shit for you. Nice vid!

My personal favorite as a grill guy was "driving", i.e. whoever was responsible for the item on the ticket that has the longest time.

That explanation of shoemaker = cobbler = cobbled together = bad is terribly unfair to the noble profession. A good cobbler can take broken-down old shoes and make them like new

To me, TOP comes from looking at the table from the Top-Down.

I think the shoe maker one does fit. Shoe and boot soles of old were made of just boiled and hardened leather, and it wasn't rare to hear stories during harsh famines of people boiling leather goods like old belts and shoewear to make them somewhat edible again.
I also grill, and while I prefer a decent steak on medium and a great one on rare, I dread when it comes to serve my moms, because she wants me to burn the hell outta that poor thing, lolz. By the time I'm serving it, the texture of it is... _just wrong._ Definitely can see the leather sole resemblance.

not adding anything new here but in italy we also have "coperto" basically the exact same as french, literally translated to "covered" and it means exactly what you said so no need for me to repeat it lmao but yeah, it's just most places with have tablecloths aka "covered" tables. idk if this is something in the us as well but most restaurants/food places will put a price to the "coperto" (say, 1€ but touristy/fancy places can go much higher, but for this example a table of four would have 4€ on their bill that's just for the "coperto") and it usually covers (ahah) stuff like idk the small basket of bread you'll find already placed, some places it'll cover the water, etc. etc.
i can't explain myself for shit and, again, i'm not adding anything to what you said but i'm procrastinating a thing so why not write a useless youtube comment. in any case, to anyone who reads this hope you're having a good one and if there's any typos here... no there aren't
