I took prednisone for 18 days 20/5 10/5 5/5 Like doctor said for my sinuses I finish my last pill 2 weeks ago And still have anxiety and depression And back pain
Please, anyone, is there any woman here that "lost" her period after a short term on Prednisone? I took it for MG this July for only 9 day. Other than the other horrible horrible side effects that I'm still fighting so hard, my period never came back...I got a hormone - belly for 5 months now and I'm worried. I went to see a gynecologist but he didn't say much. Is it normal in my age? (38) To just lose it???
How does a high cortisol level lead to increased IL-6? I took prednisone daily for 12 years to treat PMR with an average daily dose of probably 20 mg of prednisone. I tried many ways of tapering and many steroid sparring medications and was unable to get much below 10 mg of prednisone without having an increase in inflammatory pain. Whether the pain was PMR or not---I really don't know. Actemra (tocilizumab) is an IL-6 receptor blocker and it allowed me to taper off prednisone in 7 months. Adrenal insufficiency symptoms probably lasted another year while being off prednisone.
I am 5 months off 50mg prednisolone... tapered off in 6 months. Still have hpa axis dysfunction. Its horrific daily :( I keep hoping bext month will be better. Horrific drug x
Dr. Megan, there is something that has never been clear to me about prednisone tapering. If the dose of Prednisone is reduced slowly so that the adrenals return to producing the physiological dose of cortisol, doesn't that mean that the end of weaning should only happen when cortisol has already returned to normal? I ask this because I've seen a huge number of tapering schemes that are based exclusively on days and not on cortisol test results.
Great question. It's not as simple as just the cortisol levels in the blood. It's also the receptors for cortisol that matter as well. There can be a mismatch between the amount of cortisol and the number of receptors available for the cortisol.
@@PrednisonePharmacist Thank you very much, Dr. Megan. Always so kind to answer your fans' questions. I know this isn't the place for long answers or overly technical questions, but I'm really curious about the topic of cortisol receptors. Isn't there a test to evaluate these receptors? It would be an interesting subject for one of your next videos, I guess. Thanks again.

That’s a long time taking prednisone. I can relate and I end up getting AVN in my left hip.

Wow! I’m so sorry it’s still a problem for you!
