Hi, I think a useful but cheap addition is a sliding bash plate that you mount on the leading edge of the log, held in place by a shackle. I saw a bullock driver using this for the monster logs that he pulled through rugged terrain. He was an wiry bloke with a great strong bullock team. It was amazing to watch as it made me think back to pioneering forestry methods. I used a top cut from a 44gallon drum and ran my chain through the filler hole and It stopped logs jagging on obstacles. I used this on a small Kubota b6100, obviously dragged much smaller logs just like your Kioti.
😎 Hi Paul, Yes! Excellent point. Keeping the log or item from hanging up on stuff is key to successful winching. I appreciate you checking out the video and commenting! 🍺🇺🇸🚜
I’ve wanted a winch on my tractor for similar purposes for some time but just haven’t decided how to implement it yet. It was nice to see your take on this. Thank you.
Enjoyed a full-watch and the winch idea. Will watch more videos to get a few ideas for my tractor use. Coincidentally, I happened to be looking at the Badland winch in Harbor Freight and was wondering how I could hook it to my tractor. Fortunately, I don't have many downed trees to pull out of the woods but hurricanes around here seem to keep me on my toes when it comes to removing downed trees. Have a fine week and thanks for the ideas. NEW SUBSCRIBER!!
Hi Houndsman! Thanks! Hey! I appreciate you checking it out! That three point hitch receiver is very handy. I use it for moving different hitched items and for the winch. I want to get the truck and the side by side wired up with a plug so I can move the winch around. Welcome to the channel!!!🇺🇸🚜🍺
💪👍 Thanks buddy!! I have since put a synthetic rope on it, but have yet to try it out. I think it will come in handy. Appreciate you checking out the video!🚜🇺🇸🍺
Hi there I am not sure! I have always kept the engine running when I have used it. It would depend on how heavy the load is and running time on each pull. I never wanted to risk a dead battery and I am generally moving the tractor around anyway. Thanks for watching!🚜🪵
I have similar rig made of my own. I used a draw bar and made the receiver. Used a couple of scarf fires in reverse off a box grader to drop down and dig in to the ground. Pulls good enough I usually can pull out about and 18 inch log cut to about 8 feet with no problems. Also leave the tractor running. Tried with out one time and if you are pulling a lot you will see how fast it will drain the battery. Good luck.
Hi Heath, You sound way more skilled than I am. Nice work! We have done more winching with the synthetic rope that we switched to. That video is the killer log video. That worked pretty well, but I still have lots to learn. Definitely agree about leaving it running! Thanks for checking out the video 🚜🇺🇸😊
Good setup, I am in process of setting it up on my Massey Ferguson GC1725M tractor. I am getting a trailer mover made for 3 point hitch, and as an option, you can remove ball receiver piece and attach winch plate. I will be running a cable from battery to the back and same coupler as your will be mounted at back of tractor somewhere, I went with wireless remote control only because I had an opportunity to buy it at good price. But essentially same setup, I was glad to see it working so well for you, excellent video and nice work. (Also... I am sure you can winch heavier logs as well, at least twice the diameter of tree you pulled out, if not three times, I mean I do it with my ATV which is a lot lighter duty than my Massey, and it's better for your tractor to let the winch take the beating than pulling with the tractor anyway.
I've always just used a long cable or heavy snatch strap. Tied to draw bar to drag anything out from logs to cars in a ditch, not near as much expense and I'm 65 yr old heart patient.
👍💪 Nice!!! Old timers are always working smarter, not harder! I like it! Good to hear you are still upright with bum ticker!!! Hang in there! Thanks for commenting!!!!😊🇺🇸🍺🚜
I have the same winch on my car hauler... the thing about the badland 12,000 winch is that when it is new the cable is all nicely wound perfectly around the spool..after you've unwound it once it never will be "nicely wound" again and will bind up on the frame of the winch...I had to cut off about 50ft of cable and it works much better now..it's almost...for me completely...impossible to get the cable wound back under load all nice and tidy like it was shipped new.. also the more wraps around the spool the less power the winch has. The 12,000 lb rating is at the first wrap of the cable. When it wraps over the 1st wrap it loses mechanical advantage and the rating is reduced..and so on for any subsequent layers of wraps... best of luck with your Kioti adventures...I just joined the kioti klub a month ago...loving it so far!
👍😊 Hi Jeff! Thanks for for the perspective on the winch. I moved to a nylon rope and it has worked well for me so far! Since I use the winch on the 3 point hitch, I never put too heavy of a load on it. It has come in handy several times in tight spots moving logs etc. The rope does get kind of tangled going back in, but when I am done, I have been able to wrap it back on all pretty. 😂😊 I appreciate you checking out the video. Welcome to the Kioti club! Take care!🇺🇸🍺🚜
😊👍 Hi Sam! That’s good advice. I have done both since I did that video and we have managed to do some pretty cool projects! Thanks for checking out the idea and commenting!🍺🚜🇺🇸

👍😊Hi Timothy! I hear you! You can always upgrade, seems like guys sell their used tractors for nearly retail, it’s just waiting on the new one that sucks!!! Thanks for checking out the video!!!🚜🇺🇸🍺
Nice rig mount for the winch. Winch vs Tow Strap vs Chain? They all work great in particular situations, steep slopes/confined spaces and depends what works best and which is the safest. 👍
Hi Wyant, I actually have purchased a few of them. I purchased some from an online 4x4 winch store and others from Amazon. Just search battery cable quick connect and you’ll find a ton of them. Hope that helps. Thanks for stopping by.🍺🚜🇺🇸
I almost have the same setup. I have the ZXR 12000 badland and I have it set up the receiver set up so I can use it on my 2610, front or rear of my pick up and on my car trailer. I welded a 2inc receiver tube to a drawbar so I can just slide that set up into my drawbar location on the tractor instead of pulling ageist my 3pt arms. 😊Hi Raul, I do very little winching with the tractor, just a few tight spots. I do have rear connection, but it was a pretty inexpensive setup. It also gives me the flexibility of moving the winch to the side by side and the truck. Thanks for checking out the video!!🍺🚜🇺🇸
you can use the tractor chassis for the grd return and save the price of copper wire. easier to run just the red wire and tie the black to a bolt that's handy.
🌟😎 That’s a good question! I did keep the tractor running!! The area by the pond is so muddy and I did not want to test the battery on this project. I probably will in the future. Thanks for checking it out!🚜🇺🇸🍺

Hey buddy as a logger I suggest maybe two snatch blocks. Also more importantly please put a blanket or an old towel over that wire rope. If that cable breaks it can wreak a lot of havoc, a towel or old crappy blanket will make sure it drops before it gets anywhere. Good video and good idea :)
🌟👍Right on!!! Sounds good. I will get some snatch blocks today. Blanket or towel, got it!! There are some tricks and techniques to this stuff!!! Appreciate the help!! Thanks!!💪🚜🇺🇸🍺
Honestly I don't see how you could "mess up your tractor" with that setup. Only thing you might want to do is put something to dig in for really hard pulls. With 12k winch and a couple of pulling you can pull over trees.
😊👍 Hi MustachVerra! Yes, a hydraulic winch would be great and faster. I don’t do much winching. I have used this setup a handful of times and it works well on the cheap. Thanks for checking out the video!🚜🍺🇺🇸
Unless you already have an electric winch, don't do this. Electric winches are not the right tool for the job. Get a forestry winch for your tractor that either hooks up to remotes or uses the PTO to power onboard hydraulics. Better yet, just get a PCW-5000 gas powered capstan winch. Much more versatile, and doesn't overheat and drain the batteries like an electric recovery winch. Use the Badlands winch for recovering vehicles in a pinch, use the gas and diesel powered winches for forestry work. You're welcome.
you could drag that with a rope. Winches are super slow at skidding logs, they are for equipment recovery. I would not tolerate a rig like this for this job. You could just drag the logs with a rope easier and faster.
👍Hi Rigid! Thanks for checking out the video! I am certain there are better and easier ways to accomplish most of what I attempt on my property. I don’t really make how to videos. Most them are just a guy trying things. In this case, I did not drag the logs because the slope to the pond can get messy in a hurry. Take care!🚜🇺🇸🍺
Cable skidders have their place and were around long before grapple skidders. Cable skidding works great in soft conditions (like the video) where you can spool out and get through a hole then pull your drag back to the tractor instead of trying to drive through a hole while dragging the wood with you, cable skidders also do better on steep hills where you can winch up instead of trying to pull your drag with you. Let the loggers log.
