Just subscribed .if you put forward controls and stock pipes off a older bike and drill the fland Holes out to 3/8 of an inch instead of 5/16 they will come off and go back on a lot easier . two smaller mufflers staggered under the bike gives you more room . your back , knee's, ankles and legs will thank you for forward controls . that's just my opinion though .
You did a great job on the scrambler build and after using it as you intended, you now have a clear plan to refine the bike. I’m really looking forward to the improvements/enhancements, Jordan.
Inspiration comes in waves for me, I tend to over plan a lot of projects in my head to the point I lose motivation. The bike though, I dunno, it still makes me excited to work on.
Owning a motorcycle is a work in progress, to become what you dream of. As far as the backrest there was a company in the 80’s that had a backrest that the pad could be adjusted for either the passenger or driver. They used a slide system with knobs to tighten down the slides. Can’t wait to see what you do to improve your dream.
I just love the paint scheme. It reminds me of a 1976 Honda XL350 which I still own. To me, this just brings me to a connection with a true dual sport. I’m getting near the point of pulling the trigger on buying a second sportster to build a bike.
If you can machine the mounts, get a couple dirtbike mono shocks and put them on each side. A lot cheaper than the one that will fit a Harley, and won't look as nice, but they'll work.
It's bittersweet tearing it apart. But it's for a valid reason. To correct the exhaust, and move the pegs, now that you know what doesn't work. The only way to find out is by doing what you did. Take solace in the fact, this should be exactly what you need, this time. Jayman...
Jordan, if there's a scrapper in your area that do bikes too have a look there to see if there's a crashed dirt bike or ADV bike you can pick parts from.
Hay Jordan. Take a look at doubling up a set of mono shocks from something like a KLR or maybe a XR650R Honda. My KLRs shock looks a lot like your rear shock.
Will go back and watch the rest of the videos - just wanna say, stay strong and try and stay positive, can see your going through something. Regarding shock, I bough Hagons that are v good and a lot cheaper than progressive - custom made to my weight and what I wanted from the shock
Ohlins are rebuildable and you can put whatever spring rate you need during the rebuild. Buy some used units off Flea-Bay and have them built to your specs at half the cost of new, and they will serve you better than new. As for relays... they may not be H-D Sportster level of NVH rated.
May consider running some touring air shocks. Usually scoop some up cheap (found mine local for $50). I needed clearance not a several hundred dollar performance part. Endless adjustment. I usually run 0 psi riding solo, or shoot 20lbs or so in them when 2 up or loaded for a trip via a small bicycle hand pump.
So your scrambler build got me looking hard into doing one myself and although I prefer the sound of harley sportster as well. I know I want to start with something smaller but similar. I'm going to use the xv250. It looks very similar to my 48 with very similar dimensions as well but about half the weight and sounds surprising similar as well. I'm actually quite amazed at how good these sound with pipes. I'll likely use it mostly for offroad but will be nice to bomb around town when I want something lighter than the sportster. Maybe something to consider for Jess too since she's looking for something smaller as well? Great channel and content!
That actually looks like a great base! I bet a ton of the parts made for sportsters would fit that too. The biggest thing with these scramblers is just have fun. Good luck!
@Jordan Ray yeah I'm hoping a sportster tank will fit as well as a couple other parts. If this bike works out like I hope. The buell xb9 will be next as its probably the lightest sportster motor based bike available at about 400lbs. With the frame as the gas tank and the swingarm as the oil tank! Could be a pretty sweet platform as well. Buell actually makes an offroad application already too called the Ulysses!
I don’t have a complete list as I rebuilt things probably 3-4 times through this, I tried listing parts in each videos description, if you have any questions I can try to answer though.
Hi there, enjoyed the video. What kind of muffler did you use on your original build? And what length are your rear shots? Looking forward to see what you come up with next I’m always looking for ideas a little piece here and there lol thanks
It was a cheap amazon muffler and I welded in an extra baffle, shocks were 15” progressives. Here’s the video of the original exhaust fabrication. th-cam.com/video/5TiSdWxUS38/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tv4LRDhWYQOjW_yc
the new parts look cool, grats. the seat/backrest issue....i know there are seats with a removable backrest,,not sure they make them for a sportster. could be possible to maybe make a custom seat in the scrambler/ADV style that has a removable backrest. it would be something else to engineer though, but if it works and no one else has that you could patent it and maybe make a few $$. just a thought. the light/relay issue...all i can think of is it was just unlucky timing or maybe the relay fixture is loose maybe.. i cant see or touch it so im just guessing. other than that guess it sounds like a Shelby question or a tech like him lol. it will be cool to see what you come up with. good vid
Hey man, how big of a fuse was you blowing? Was you triggering the relay and getting the relay pwr from same circuit? If it is a continuous duty relay I would expect nomore than 200miliamps of draw on the relay coil
I was tapping the relay to the O/W wire that runs the headlight, turn, brake light just as a trigger wire 15A fuse. Again I dunno why it worked for 2,000 miles then stopped. I’ll have to comb through the wiring.
@@JordanRay if you was using an existing relay that powered lights currently on bike you might be just on the edge of to much draw on that circuit, that's assuming that 15 amp fuse is supplying pwr thru the relay for the headlight and the foglights/accessories you added, I would suggest picking up a 30amp automotive relay (spdt) and build you a custom circuit with proper size wire and fuse based on your current demand, you can get your fused supply voltage feeding a relay directly from battery and use the hot wire that currently feeds your headlight as your coil or trigger wire, ofcourse you should be able to tie the other side of relay coil to common ground. Anyway hope this helps! Keep up the videos.....goodluck
Hi Jordan! I too want to build an adventure bike with the Sportster, I think it could turn out better than the Pan American, with an S&S Hooligan kit of course. Have you seen Builtwell’s Frijole and ADVXL bikes? I’d like to try and build something like that. Are you planning on beefing up the rear wheel swing arm? Or buying an aluminum one from Trac or Metmachex in the UK? A bit pricey though at $2000 and $1500 respectively. Better go the Builtwell route and beefing up the existing one.
I’m thinking I would leave the scrambler alone and go find a better project bike. Money here, money there. But you would have 2 bikes of different flavors. Good luck. Interesting no matter how you go about it.
Maybe instead of modifying the the brake cylinder extend your pegs out longer so you can stand easier with your legs clearing the exhaust and brake cylinder
There’s a whole story about how that bike almost didn’t even get built. The fact that it even did get built and got there in time was impressive. But look at it now, rippin’ dirt across the country.
Also look into race techs @rustybutcher runs them now seems like he’s been threw a few different setups over the years maybe he could offer some advice.
I know of a huge TH-camr how would be willing to sponsor your rear shock purchase. Her TH-cam channel is Her Two Wheels. She will buy them for you for Christmas. Lol
You trying to remove the exhaust is how I feel trying to open a jar after you close it… 💪
🤣🤣🤣
Well Jess, now you know hot to fix it. Go out in the garage and get the angle grinder. 😁

@@michaeltier657 It would be really hard to stand up and ride with forward controls on the bike.
RACE TECH!!! Race tech shocks, they build them to your specs and they’re about 600 bucks.

A whole new project to get you through the winter. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, big plans for Gordita.....I can't wait.......
Sounds like you have a lot of work, and fun, ahead of you.
Keeps me out of Ohios seasonal depression 😂 😅
I like the way you film, sir
Very cool, enjoy. Happy go lucky. Thank you for sharing
It was nice to meet you the other day at my shop. Looking forward to this build. If you need any metal or machine work, I'll take care of you.
Likewise! I will definitely keep that in mind, I will have to bring the bike over next summer.
This is going to be a Awesome build Jordan !
Anxious to see your peg relocation.
Been posting live updates on my instagram stories if you’re super interested.
Enjoying your style of videos bud keep up the good work and keep the dream alive of finishing that route
Thanks for the video Jordan the bikes gonna be awesome can't wait for the next video take care
Good to see you "back at it". The planning is the best part!
Inspiration comes in waves for me, I tend to over plan a lot of projects in my head to the point I lose motivation. The bike though, I dunno, it still makes me excited to work on.
Thanks for sharing and looking forward to see how you alter the bike after learning what you did on the trip.
You could even look in to getting a mono shock swingarm and get some more room for bags and exhaust in the back.

I never have a passenger, so I am toying with the idea of have the rear just one big luggage rack. 🤔
Dude, I absolutely love how refined your vids are, all the B-Roll and little cut scenes are great 👍 plus, who doesn't love a sporty scrambler!?!
Best of luck and have fun rebuilding the Sportster!

I enjoy watching projects like this because I really suck at them. Waiting to see how it turns out.
Look up a M-unit for al your electrics, works perfectly!! Great video!!

Good video, Jordon. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.
All three of my motorcycles need work but holiday season keeps me away from the shop. It's great to see you wrenching!

What bars are those that you are using. They look like exactly what I'm after on my bobber. Thanks
These are Burly Brand Scrambler bars.

The doubletake mirrors using ram mounts may be an answer for your mirror situation.
I have been eyeballing those actually.
So when you are done do you plan to ride a BDR and do you know which one?
Since the BDR I’ve discovered a lot of trails right in my back yard in Ohio I plan to tackle.
Yup 👌👍😎
Jordan , just found your channel , do you have a parts list of the scrambler build ?
I don’t have a complete list as I rebuilt things probably 3-4 times through this, I tried listing parts in each videos description, if you have any questions I can try to answer though.
Hey! Where did you buy that front fender?
That’s the factory sportster fender with the original mounts remove and some hangers onto the triple.

I would look at maybe different springs for your shocks
Jordan just a thought maybe a tip idk. But maybe look into a buel square box exhaust that goes under the frame
I’d lose a good amount of ground clearance. Plus I want the joys labor of building my own exhaust again! 👍🏻
