I purchased the 4070 version with 2TB ssd and 64gb ram for the same price, as someone who has been purchasing Alienware laptops and desktops since 2013, I gotta say I am a fan of ROG now because their ability to keep the price very very good while still having insane specs, the cooling ability on this one is crazy too, running Hogwarts legacy above 100 fps consistory and a cpu temp about 80, it’s not even loud at all, on the other hand I can hear Alienware sounding like an airplane taking off doing the same thing 😂

Your reviews have come such a very long way from where you started, leaps and bounds. The way you present content, the editing etc. Well done. As I'm looking to upgrade from the Razer 17" 2022, I'm very excited to hear your review on the 18". Maybe a comparison between the two would be on the cards, things like have the speakers improved? minimum brightness? etc. Thanks in advance.

    • @consumertechwarehouse

Thanks man. Still have lots to improve on. I don’t have the 17 anymore. Speakers sound like they improved though. Minimum brightness I’ll report on. Didn’t test that yet. But the screen is like 580 nits though. It’s super bright. Honestly though it’s the same laptop but with an 18 inch screen and much much better performance. If that’s enough go for it. If not, I think you can hold onto your blade 17 for another few years.

I just got this yesterday and for the most part I like it, but I have quite a few gripes about this.
    1. Windows 11................ god 11 sucks balls.
    2. The power cord coming out of the power supply going to the power connector is extremely short. I cannot put the supply on the floor like I've been used to with all previous models I've owned.
    3. The power connector is in the absolute worst spot it could be. You have to plug it up and move the cord toward you instead of it going toward the rear where the power supply is or you end up roasting the cord because it blocks the vent.
    4. The USB ports. The 2 standard USB's are on the wrong side. Plug a mouse and phone up, and the cords are in your way. They also partially block the right vent, where if they were on the left side, they could just hang off and not be in the way. This part wouldn't be an issue if they had put USB on the left side like every other model in the past like every other brand, but there are only 2 USB C, so I will have to buy a new cable and an usb to usb c adapter just to use my mouse and phone on this.
Besides those things, I'm enjoying it. From a MSI G75 3060 to this one with a 4080, I never thought the difference would be this massive. $2725 well spent.($226 stupid taxes)..

I wonder if 4090 gets as far ahead of 4080 as 3080ti did with 3070ti, cause if the difference is like single digit percentage points while price difference is closer to 30%+, the base G18s could be the best option from Asus big boys department, as it's only limited by the top GPU option compared to Scar one, and it drops the lit-up lid logo and rear exhaust lights in favor of black or light green reflective design and dark grey or light green rear exhaust panel plastic respectively. Now that's a trade-off many people could be very happy about if the performance difference is next to negligible.

@consumertechwarehouse might be, but this year the Titan comes with miniLED 4K&FHD switchable native resolution panel 17.3" in size and 16:9 aspect ratio only, so no taller screen options here, and the Raider comes with a smaller 17" 8:5 AR taller screen, so neither with taller 18-inchers. Plus, the Raider gets some red and yellow plastic/paint-job finishing touches at the same time on the hind quarters, somewhat subdued but reminiscing Acer lower tier Nitros with red big plastic panels or Asus older Strix Gxxs with red or green big ones... all while typically costing about 25% more. Sure, better ports or 64GB faster RAM or single 2TB drive kind of recompense a part of the sum, and if you like the dual colored accents, you might not find Raiders ghastly for the price, and if you need memory capacity Titan still takes the upper hand due to 128GB option (albeit with heavily downgraded speeds)... If we're not focusing on 18 inchers alone, then the 16 inchers are close by with the Scar 16 and G16 (a bit older thick 15.6 looking), more travel friendly Zephyrus M16, let alone the Lenovo workhorses from the 7 Pro lines or Acer's/Razer's/Alienware's 16" counterparts to those 18" models listed...
Judging by the specs alone maybe the G18 with 4080 will be best bang for buck, but no access to 4090 may, if it is far ahead of the cut down 4080 chip, gravitate prospective buyers towards Scar 18.
But judging by specs for overall best option in a 17" plus size space, maybe this year Acer Predator Helios 18 will be the best, simply because it's supposed to rival Asus pricing whilst offering subdued when needed and more travel friendly design, supposedly without impacting thermal performance or power delivery, plus it's supposed to be the only miniLED 8:5AR 18-incher in this group, so maybe best screen on offer out of these. That is unless Acer meant only the 16-incher gets the miniLED treatment, and the 18-incher is IPS only as all the other devices from the list, as then they're all on equal footing and price/reliability/support will be the deciding factors...
And if we take into account support, Razer has limited global centres due to mostly US oriented target audience/market. Asus probably has the most extensive network due amount of countries and regions they're selling their devices in. Alienware is served by Dell, so the support network could be even better... In terms of reliability... it might be hard to point either way since they all are one way or another sporting some sort of new design, either chassis&cooling or just cooling, so prolonged life expectancy could be difficult to verdict on right now...

There are 32GB, so 2x16GB SKUs in all regions, some regions are purported to have 2x32GB setups as well. Bear in mind that the 2TB option is basically 2x1TB in RAID0 for the moment, Asus PR team mentioned in some posts that a 2x2TB RAID0 option will be available only in select regions though I don't recall them specifying which ones exactly... I'm not sure if the overall 2TB worth of disk space is going to be enough for some projects in terms of creator work, especially considering always looming option of whole system and data breakage on one of the drives failing, certainly it's not the option professionals would like, but at least the local storage is faster due to RAID0 and you can always store majority of your assets on a NAS given this has both 2.5Gbit and WiFi6e for networking... though it would have been even better if we saw 10Gbit ETH designs in more creator oriented designs.

    Hi! Great review!
How do you check if the ports are connected to the GPU or not if you do not have access to the laptop? (I often search for that info for VR laptops which needs both ports and screen to be connected to the GPU).
I checked before with Asus support about Asus Rog Strix g18 (G814JI-N6062WK) and they said "Thunderbolt/HDMI and the USB-C port is connected to the GPU." Which makes me wonder if the Thunderbolt and HDMI and USB-C port is connected to the GPU or if Thunderbolt/HDMI does not mean both Thunderbolt and HDMI but something else. It might mean that I have gotten two different answers to the question about the Thunderbolt connection to GPU and I don´t care who´s right just that I get the info correct in the end. Or I might have misunderstood something. (I am wondering because I might want to buy some future VR-headset).
    Thanks for your videos!

So weird that the new lineup of gaming laptops are now 14,16, and 18 inches and all with 16:10 displays. Strange times we are living in. The only thing I find interesting about this transition is that the new 16 inch Razer Blade gets the same 175 watt tdp 4090 and 330 watt brick as the 18 inch. While I don't like the new sizes and aspect ratios, I do admire that gaming laptops are getting the full fat mobile gpus now.

Why Windows laptops keep using those gigantic power adaptors? That ends with portability.

    • @consumertechwarehouse
      @consumertechwarehouse  ปีที่แล้ว

These laptops require a lot more power than macs especially to get that level of gaming. The MacBook Pro m2 max even only uses a total of like 100 watts. A full performance gaming laptop uses 275 watts if not more. So it’s like double the amount of power draw. More power means bigger bricks. They’re working on reducing the size though
