Me, who is Greek and have played the Megali Idea path more than the Byzantium Path: Edit: The Byzantium path is supposed to be the hidden one lol, the Megali Path is the intended path if you go down the Compromise with the Monarchists branch.
Tried to do the same, ended up having to take major copium dosages when myself and the Allies failed repeatedly to naval invade Romania and end the war. At summer of 1939 Romania joined the Axis and WW2 started. As for myself, at that point I still only had about 12 divisions but no guns or equipment to produce more. The allied lend lease was a joke since they would keep canceling it before it gets delivered... I blame Romania for all my problems

I think this focus path is so fun because it's very fitting and immersive. Rather than just conquering everything you see, you accomplish the national dream of turning Greece from a very poor, debt-ridden country to a rich and prosperous one. It's wish fulfillment at its purest, but it's more based on reality and what Greece wanted to do at the time than just going on a Roman conquest (which fits Italy more than it does Greece). It puts you in the right mindset, which gives Greece its own flavor. I just wish the national focus system was less exclusive than the missions from EUIV. If this was EUIV, you could reform Greece and THEN go on a Byzantine campaign, which could make for a longer and potentially more fun campaign, but I guess the devs don't really care for endgame content when it comes to HoI4.
Greeks were the last Romans. Italy was overrun by barbarians and has nothing to do with Romans anymore. Only countries that speak Latin or Greek can have a claim on Rome.
to be fair Greece is incredibly easy to hold. The mountains are very difficult to fight in, and it was much more of a italy focus than a hitler focus so. I mean even if hitler did decide to conquer greece I'd love to know how he got over, and through the forest and mountains lol.

Same problem as every other democratic path; you finish your one or two wars and then the game is over for you, since as we all know democracies have never declared expansionist wars in real life. Same problem as democratic germany, where it's a pretty fun path but you beat the soviets and the game just ends because it won't let you play anymore.

Democracies can never expand into their weaker, neutral neighbors though because they don't generate world tension. The US for example is sitting on two entire continents full of weak neighbors and free factories, but can never take any of them because nobody has focus trees so nothing ever happens in South America to generate tension. Greece gets their free wargoal to retake their anatolian land with Brittain and France, but after that they can only declare on...Germany, Italy, the Soviets, or Japan. And even then, only *after* the fall of France and Poland, declarations on Norway and Denmark, etc. (to finally reach 100% tension).
I like Byzantium more but this is certainly not a bad path. Tried this lately for the achievement, but it was one of the more fun achievements I’ve done.

This was literally the first path I did when the DLC came out It seemed like the most powerful for the least amount of effort. Also expansionist democracies are just fun since they’re different but still fun
I played this branch as soon as I got down to greece and succeeded. I held out the Axis on my own (built my own Maginot) and went for Turkey. I annexed all of Albania, Coastal Turkey, Bulgaria and almost all of Romania. Then i fought USSR and my empire stretched from Baltics to Balcans. This was my first ever achievement run (i went on super easy + buff up my country to the max as I played majors before)
The allies are the therapists of hoi4 The allies don't get to greece? You get fascist byzantium with a leader that looks like a painting. The allies don't get to Germany? You get TNO

I played this path first time I played Greece. I did the convention when turkey was garunteed by Britain and Germany. All three convention members backed out and I was at war with tha axis and allies. Luckily Stalin saved my ass and I formed greater Greece.
I do still think you should be able to core more states, even if you have to had some Compliance beforehand so you are a tad stronger or a decision for buying cyprus from the UK
After no less than 30 attempts on ironman, I can with confidence say that it is impossible to naval invade romania before they join the axis. Half of the times, UK and France will not join the war and even when they do, for whatever reason they behave extremely bad, often leading to tens of thousands of casualties on their part... On the few ocations I managed to land with marines, I was beaten back to the sea. The allies didnt even manage to land once. Romania puts litteraly half of their army to guard all of their coastline with their ports having the most divisions. So the few times you will land, it will not be on a port. These divisions will immediately get pinned and will be unable to assist on the port landing. On the very very very slim chance you manage to land and make some progress, there is also the soviets that will manualy justify on you since you now control bessarabia... What an absolute disaster... Allies vs Axis and Soviets in 1939, just because the "hidden" Greece path, no one uses because going for byzantium is just that much better... Cores on all of Turkey, invade Romania through Bulgaria, and flip to democratic whenever you want... Feedback conveniently skips the "delete all romanian divisions" part kekw

Byzantium had a senate so it’s possible the Greece in the alt path decided to form a constitutional monarchy but with emperors instead of kings and a senate. The funny thing is, English speaking people struggle to read Greek words exactly because of the english letters. You just don't know how to pronounce the "The" in Thessaloniki for example despite the word being super easy with vowels in every syllable.

The Latin alphabet is literally an adaptation of the Etruscan alphabet, which was in turn an adaptation of the Greek alphabet. They're basically brothers, which makes it far from cursed.

Funnily enough I did this run last night by accident whilst trying for Byzantium.
I did this run as soon as the DLC dropped. Was wicked fun, and I actually enjoyed it more than Byzantium cause it was so much more localized.
