Everything you said here is spot on. The values you learn in the Marines will help you later in life. I see a bright future for you, Simeon!

When I was in during the 90s, yup, it fit my lifestyle and work. Todays military, I have no idea. I mean for Christ Sakes, there’s no more physically shining your boots.

I went to boot camp back in 1997, and the plan was to stay in for the full 20. After completing boot camp, MCT, MOS school, I started to rethink everything. I did a 6 month tour in Iraq in 1998, and while I was over there I did a lot more thinking. I decided to do 4 years and get out. Military life is tough especially back when I was in. I figured 4 years is good enough and I went to Iraq, something that 80 percent of this country has not done. My life has been outstanding since I've gotten out. The Vet status is very very nice and the treatment, respect I get is overwhelming at times. I get a lot of discounts on everything. I used my VA loan to purchase my home, I have a great job. The Marines made my life better.

I understand, brother. I had planned for 20 years in the army, but I took the early out in '94. I don't regret serving, but the military life isn't for everyone, especially long term. Thanks for your service!

@@spidermangy5514 And thank you for your service. You're right, it isn't for everyone especially back in the 90's when I was in. Today's military is completely different. I get asked all the time, people asking me should I join etc...I'm like it's up to you, I can only tell you my experience when I was in almost 30 years ago, it was a completely different era of military. Boot camp was real boot camp and it was tough. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, and when I got my EGA, I cried, my whole platoon did. I actually earned something that will never be taken away from me, ever.

Don't always come into everything with high expectations. For my dream scenario I wanted Camp Pendleton to be my duty station but I got 29 Palms instead. Just make the most out of every situation and have a positive mindset and attitude.

    • @simeon_kurosky

Very true, it’s always good to expect the worst tho in the military that way it’ll be even sweeter when you do get what you want

29 Palms definitely requires a positive mindset to survive. Though if it's winter and you like to snowboard, Big Bear isn't too far away if you or a buddy has a car.

Killing me young Devil. 1st - In most cases you can’t pick your actual MOS, most people can only pick an Occupational Field which has several MOSs in most of them. 2nd - There are more ways to getting college credits then just sitting in a boring classroom and doing boing homework and writing boring papers. One of the best things you can do is look into CLEPs & DSSTs if you’re too busy to sit in class. #SFMF

Yeah, committment is one-half of the requirement for pursuing any endeavor successfully--and, committment comes naturally if it's to something that you definitely want for yourself, even when you've considered all of the obstacles (obstacles are just opportunities for growth and improvement, anyway.)
I have an idea for a video: the art of managing your time when you have lots of things on your plate.
(I'm thinking that that is just one of the many things in which you're an expert.)

If you can get in it’s a good option, but look into ROTC as well. Consider trying to get a private pilots license and if you can’t do that, grab Microsoft Flight Simulator, pick a T-6 and fly around Corpus Christi and Pensacola.
