How to get your poa or expansion valve rebuilt 134a R12

  • Quick video showing a couple of valves, one being a poa (pilot operated absolute) and the other being an txv (expansion valve). I rebuild these original GM Frigidaire valves that were used throughout the 60's and into the early 70s. The POA valve was used from around 1966-1973. The expansion valve was used much earlier up until around 1973 as well. Form there GM went fully into the VIR or valves in reciever for air conditioning systems for the next three years. If you are interested in having your poa valve or expansion valve rebuilt, the turnaround time is typically a few days. I also have some to sell outright if you don't have one.

    Hi thanks for your help I’m learning a lot from his old a/c Systems. Not sure if my poa valve was ever adjusted for 134A would that be a problem??? Also when I bought my 1965 it looks like it was converted to R134a By the added R134A port that was added to one of the hoses. It is running factory parts and I would add R1 34A and it ran just fine till recently my AC compressor went bad so I bought a new style that bolts right up to the factory brackets. everything is still stock so again do I have to have that POA valve adjusted??? Thanks .

    Hello. Are you still doing this work? And, if so, can you do it on the expansion valves from a 1990 Ford Econoline/Club Wagon for conversion to R134a? There would be one valve for each of the two evaporators. Thank you.

    Are you still doing this? I have one from a 70 Oldsmobile Cutlass

    My schrader in poa is leaking by internally bad. I can easily blow thru it both directions with mouth pressure. Not the guage port scrader, but the on fCing down that Hooks to evaporator. Where can I get one scrader. I understand they are different pressure spring than car tire scraders. Where to find one? And if u can give me part number, that'd be awesome . After that, if it's still bypassing, I'd like to send to u for rebuild, but I'd like to rule out the schrader 1st obviously........it may be my only problem.

    Have you rebuilt a VIR before? I’m sure if anything is wrong with mine but the system will not take-in Freon. I’m replacing the condenser as of now. New compressor, ac muffler and hose set already installed

    I cannot get the POV hose from the condenser to break free ... it is on there and I am afraid I will break more than the POA. How much to rebuild or do you have a replacement if I break it to flush

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt you will break the Poa valve. Most likely it'll be the line going to that will get damaged. $200 if your poa needs to be rebuilt. $250 to buy one outright

      26psi

    • @ClassicRideSociety

      You should also think of swapping out the original condenser for a parallel flow condenser

      Probably about $250 to rebuild them now. There are POA delete kits out there that essentially is a tube with a cycling switch

    False title. You don’t explain anything about how to rebuild the valves! Lol

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah I was waiting for someone to say that. Well you see, the title is "how to get your poa or expansion valve rebuilt" not "how to rebuild your poa or expansion valve". This isn't a how to video and that's why I worded the title that way. Dont think anyone is going to make a how to rebuild a poa valve video. Hardly anyone actually knows how.

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only a couple of places on this planet actually rebuild these valves. You can try original air group. They rebuild these valves and they are pretty good at it.

    • @matthewevans8469
      @matthewevans8469 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough! I assumed you knew how! I’m thinking about just taking a modern ac system out of a junked car and retrofitting the system to my 67s evaporator. Might have to cut and weld the pipes, but it might work. I’m too poor to pay for all those parts to get rebuilt. I do all my own work.

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@matthewevans8469 I do know how to rebuild these valves. I used to work that company I mentioned. I provide this service. But if you wanted to rebuild your own poa valve, youd have to cut it open, bead blast some of the parts, replace some orings, repair/replace the piston and or cylinder inside, tig weld the valve back together, replace the Schrader valves(they aren't the same) pressure test the weld, then replate the valve to avoid it rusting, calibrate the valve for either refrigerant

    • @ClassicRideSociety
      @ClassicRideSociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you want to retrofit a factory system from a junked vehicle, I would suggest checking out conversion vans or rear units from suvs. They tend to be smaller. The units in the back of older conversion vans, are basically like underdash units.
