    Grew up in Cleveland and remember old Muni Stadium as a kid. The place was huge, seated 77,000 and the players had to enter the field of play through the baseball dugouts. Haven't been back since 1972, so don't know what the new place is like.

    For all intents and purposes, Cleveland is the birthplace of modern football, and as such, the purity of the game is important to a huge majority of Browns fans. The game should be played outside in the elements, on natural grass. The stadium serves one purpose and is therefore should remain named after the team it serves. The helmets have no fancy logo and the team is named after the most important coach in the history of the game. There are no cheerleaders (save a dog as a mascot), nothing to distract you from what you really came to see. These things must be kept in mind when designing stadium renovations for the Browns. It’s a part of the history of this city and this team. It’s the reason why hundreds fans come to games wearing the same “RUN THE DAMN BALL, KEVIN!” tshirts.
    This stadium is due for some renovation, but for the sake of the team, the fans, the history, and the city, I hope it is focused on the lakefront district surrounding the stadium and the concourses, and respects the sanctity inside the bowl and on the playing field.

    I’m not sure if you mentioned, the current stadium was built on a budget- initially it was supposed to be roofed. They built it in a rush and now it’s falling apart. The regular maintenance can’t make up for the terrible winters and exposed structures that were supposed to be indoors initially

    what would make the most sense is if they just hung on to the current stadium with no massive renovations for the next 20 years and then rebuild it in like 2045. its just not old enough to warrant spending so much money on. either that or get the roof and then get a new stadium like in 2070

  • @--.--.--
    @--.--.-- 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Sitting in the old stadium and the new stadium both built on the lake shore is very cold. The intent to keep it open like the old stadiums, while noble and pure, tend to make it less likely that the stadium will ever get any super bowl selection or even college bowl games. As one of the newer open stadiums it is a proper job of design. I think that a cover would not only get multiple venues in the cold weather it would help collect added funds for upkeep.
    I have seen no studies on covering this one or building a new one. They do fill the seats and that is because the Browns fans are VERY loyal and I might say rabid. Regardless of what they do Browns fans will be there for the team.

    A lot of the late 90s and early 00s stadiums are pretty lack luster by today's standards. Most of them can be improved by adding endzone suite bunkers, drink rails, modern video boards/sound systems, and upper deck canopies. Many of their façades have aged poorly, too.

    • @davidlafleche1142
      @davidlafleche1142 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Oh, please. I remember when stadiums were just stadiums, not huge social clubs. When they opened the Metrodome, the builder said, "The idea is to let the fans in, let 'em see a ballgame, then let 'em go home. That's all we want." Modern stadiums have too many unnecessary add-ons. They don't need all those bells and whistles.

    • @91_C4_FL
      @91_C4_FL 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@davidlafleche1142 With every game being available in 4k, the game alone isn't a draw like it was. And most people over 60 who toughed it out in the old stadiums prefer to watch games from home now, too. Especially when the weather isn't favorable. It is a social club, both in-person and online. I never said that was my personal preference or expectation. That's what most attendees demand in a modern stadium. They wouldn't have the "bells and whistles" if they didn't make money.

    The main gripe is the city of Cleveland led by mayor Michael R. White didn't let a new owner co-design it with the city. It was a very cold and sterile stadium. Plus they built it minus a retractable roof or dome on the lakefront.
    Cleveland is one of the poorest cities in the USA, the east side of Cleveland is horrid. The city and county can't afford it, they need to get the other counties that surround Cuyahoga County to pay up with a voucher for EVERYONE in said counties to get a ticket to one home game a year. Haslam is better off doing what Miami did and build a roof into the stadium.

    Thanks for the video! The original cost was in the $200 million range. Around $400 million today. The current stadium by itself is functional and can “get by”, but the location and ease of access is very poor in my opinion considering all factors desired in venues like this. In a perfect world, a new stadium would be constructed on a new site. I live in Cuyahoga County and say “think big” with more of a regional approach. I don’t think it’s fair for only the city of Cleveland to foot the bill to fund a portion of it. That will severely limit what can be done. There needs to be a multi-county, NE Ohio regional tax created for a big, proper design to be completed. Get creative and figure it out! I trust this is going on behind the scenes now

Also, you say there’s nothing unique, but as far as I know there’s no other outdoor NFL stadium that faces east-west. Definitely adds to intrigue if it’s a sunny afternoon late in the year (which doesn’t happen that often).

Think about that. 260 million dollars and it didnt have hot water. Lerner had to "splurge" for hot water. The city screwed up. The Browns should have come back with the Texans in 2001 and they should have built a place like Lucas OIl Stadium. That way the city could get big events.
