      I camped on St Agnes for 2 weeks, had a great outdoor holiday, but it was hugely expensive, and this was over 15 years ago.

    with regard to the cost I really believe that people that regularly visit the islands accept this as part of the holiday, it has never been cheap to visit the islands, and to be honest i think for what you did in the week the costs were pretty fair. It is such a beautiful and special place to visit and I feel very lucky to have been visiting for nearly 32 years. Great video by the way.

    We went every Easter to St Agnes when our children were young, didn't go for a few years and last year tried St Martins but in 3 weeks we are back on St Agnes with our new pup and can't wait, especially looking forward to a beach ride on St Mary;s, shame helicopter doesn't take dogs any more as I loved it.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sue, I didn't realise the helicopter doesn't take dogs - a huge shame! St. Agnes was the island I felt like we rushed the most as we spent the morning doing a boat trip around Annet, the Western Rocks and out to Bishop Rock lighthouse, so whenever we manage to return, it's the island I'm most eager to spend at least a full day exploring. The camp site on St. Agnes certainly looked to be the best too, so I don't blame you for wanting to be back there again! I hope you enjoy your trip and that the weather is kind for you!

    Going over to st Mary’s in August. My wife and myself have enjoyed all of your Scilly videos it’s made us even more exited about our trip. The holiday will take us down from Leeds to Mousehole where we will spend three days . We sail over to St Mary’s for seven night’s . We have rented a small cottage and will have our dog Monty with us . All the best to you both . From Mark Jackson

      Hi Mark, I'm so pleased you've found these video helpful 🙏 You're going to have such an amazing time on the Isles of Scilly. The place feels like it's made for dog owners!! Awesome that you're adding to the trip with a few nights on the mainland too!

    I went to the Scilly's a couple of weeks ago, and only stayed for 4 nights, but I have booked again for a fortnight next year, as there is SOOOOO much to see. I walked around St Mary's except for getting to my accommodation, that I went for a taxi, I visited Tresco, and loved that Island, and immersed myself in the gardens, the walk and the HUGE flowers they had. This is what I would do different next time - I will not take my car to Penance, as I took a few days travelling there, and got a speeding ticket in Truro, on my way back at 6.15 am - so I would either get the train to Penzance, or a flight from Exeter to St Mary's - the boat ride over there went so smoothly and not a hitch in sight - loved these islands, clean air, the smell of the flowers, and would take cash next time as there was no money in the ATM and the banks were no longer open. I would get my luggage transported up to my accommodation and hopefully the community bus will be back in action again, or like you, I would rent bikes to see more of the island, This place and the lovely people reminded my of childhood and wanderings and growing up in North Devon in the 60's- 80's , Are you going back again?

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kaz, we don't have a trip booked, but we often talk about this holiday and despite at the time of booking thinking it would be a one off special, I can see us back there again. Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket, its so annoying when you're not familiar with the roads! So pleased to hear your ferry journey ran smoothly, but really surprised to hear the community bus wasn't running and even more surprised to hear there was no money in the ATM, very good tip for others! Good on you for having a fortnight trip booked, I'm rather envious!

    I have really enjoyed your videos on the Isles of Scilly. We are really blessed to have these secret places just off the coast of Cornwall. Your video filming has been excellent in bringing these places alive as a holiday destination. Please may I suggest that you post them on the Facebook group for the Isles of Scilly. This carefully policed group, operated by St Marys leading lady taxi driver, will be sure to gather you many more viewers.

      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi TheJdkfcuom, thank you for your really kind words about my series on the Isles of Scilly. I agree about how blessed we are to have these islands, and you use the word 'secret' - it's crazy as I feel like Brits know about them, but don't venture there, so they feel very secretive indeed. I've been sharing my videos in the Facebook group each week as the group was so helpful in both planning the trip, and also whilst we were on holiday there. Hands down the loveliest Facebook group I have the pleasure of being part of and it mirrors the experience of the Isles of Scilly perfectly!

    a very good example of a week on Scilly..we go twice a year and consider it money well spent...we stay in a hotel so it was interesting to see the self catering comparison, which confirms that we will continue to do a hotel package, just out of sheer convienience and laziness!

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oooooh, your comment has got me very intrigued. Is the hotel cheaper, or is it that it's not much more expensive and for the ease of not needing to cook and clean, it's worth the little more? Also, you mentioned a hotel package - where do you stay and do they include the transport to and from St. Mary's too?

    Fantastic presentation of the isles of Scilly! I am a swede who loves islands somewhat off the usual tourist map. I loved the Channel Islands, but that visit was twenty years ago. I am defenitely planning a trip to the Isles of Scilly now.

      Hi Lars, so pleased you liked the video and that it's inspired you to visit! I've still not made it to the Channel Islands, but I've heard these are much more busy and commercialised in comparison to the Isles of Scilly. I feel like your comment timing has been perfect as you're the first (known to me0 Swede who's commented on my videos before, and whilst I've never been to Sweden, it's my next trip and I can't wait!

    Hello, even though I live on the Devon/Cornwall border, I have never been to The Isles of Scilly! I am now starting to look at planning a trip and though I have always known it's an expensive destination, I was quite staggered at the cost pp on your trip. Having said that, I can't disagree with the comment below, where the writer has said it is worth it...and he must know having travelled there over so many years. I'm heartened that some of the cost will be less for me as I live nearer, but I am hoping to cut other costs down to suit my budget. I really enjoyed your video, it's inspiring, thank you.

      Hi Jack, thank you for your kind words. Our insurance was an annual policy through LV. We did take it out over a year ago though so best to read the policy wording of anything new in case they've made changes. The other thing was we needed receipts for everything so keep a hold of them! :)

    I went over on the scillonian with my wife and son a couple of years ago. We just did the day trip, and if I'm being honest, I couldn't really recommend as you don't get nearly long enough. The introduction of the new faster ferry this year should change that a little.
    I rebuilt a Rib Boat during lockdown and I'm hoping to take the trip this year (weather permitting)
    This was an enjoyable watch thankyou.

    A very useful and well produced guide to a week on the Isles of Scilly, I really had no idea how much it would cost over there so it was very interesting to see the prices at the end. I think I would have done the helicopter too as it sounded like an exhilarating experience, such a shame it didn't happen. It always amazes me when I watch these type of videos as to just how much you can get into a week - you definitely made the most of your time as we discussed in your previous video. If (when?) I eventually make it to the Isles of Scilly I'll be sure to come back to this video and get some inspiration - well done for documenting it all so thoroughly.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt, pleased the cost breakdown was helpful. Initially I hadn't realised the Isles of Scilly were on the pricier side, but it quickly became obvious when I started doing research. But it's always difficult to tell exactly how much it's going to come to! Definitely think you can keep costs lower by camping, taking the ferry there and back, visiting less islands and staying on the one you camp on, and cooking for yourself at the campsite... but it obviously has an impact on the experience you end up with. I like that you're with me on wanting to take the helicopter - I'm sure there'll be another opportunity in the future to ride one 🤞

      You're most welcome - I'm pleased I was able to introduce you to them! No plans for Japan yet unfortunately. Our plan is to finish renovating our home as we bought something that hadn't been touched since the 1960's, and once we stop having lots of money going out on this, we hope to shift across to more expensive holidays like Japan!

      Hi Mark. It was just a Sony ZV1 with the inbuilt stabalisation feature, and then I use the stabalisation tool in Premiere Pro if needed. The bids eye shots were from the DJI Mini Mavic, but I don't think they sell this any more as newer versions are now available. I hope this helps.

    Very useful info Caroline, many thanks. Yes, Scilly isn't exactly the cheapest place in the UK for a holiday! Going by Scillonian cuts costs a bit, and for me, is the best way to get there! An interesting and picturesque boat ride! I enjoy camping too, so I'd recommend the Garrison campsite, probably the cheapest accommodation on the islands, it's also very close to Hugh Town and so convenient for boats to the off islands.
    If you want a taster, I'd recommend a day trip on the Scillonian, it's only £40 or so. It's worth checking the Scillonian timetable, because on some days, because of high demand, or tides, the boat does two trips, the first leaving Penzance sometimes as early as 6.00am or 6.30, so you arrive at 9.00am or so, leaving St Marys around 5.pm, so you get a full 8 hours on St Marys and 5 hours+ on the boat for only £40, Quite a long day, but a real adventure!

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear the Garrison is a good campsite as I really liked being on St. Mary's. As much as I loved all of the islands, I can see myself returning for at least another week long trip, and I don't know if I'd like not having Hugh Town on the door step in the evenings! I agree about how close it is to the quay too - especially when comparing it to other places on the island. How does it fare in poor weather?
      I didn't realise the Scillonian can be as cheap as £40 for a day return - really helpful for people thinking of a trip! You're right about it being a long day if you do the 6.00am boat, but very good value. I remember doing something similar when staying on Cape Cod and getting the hydrofoil across to Nantucket for the day - shattered by the end of it, but thoroughly worth it!

    @ajwalou-nack2343 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe expensive. I don't think you gave yourself enough time to spend around the islands. If you took some camping gear you could have stayed on the off islands. Then the money you spent on just a few days could have stretched a bit further. Good video.

    Bletchley Park is Britains best kept secret. IOS is the second. Ive been lucky to vist here 4 times and 2024 has two more stays planned. Problem. IOS does not have the infastructure for too many visitors. Presently staff shortages mean restaurants struggle to take bookings. Self catering is the best option. The video is a perfect stay. Well done. Doug and Julie Milton Keynes
