Way back i wanted this track on vinyl real bad. Searched everywhere, but only found another 12" by Plez. I did note his telephone number, which was on the record's label. Next day i rang the number, and it was answered by Guy Pleasant himself! I live in the Netherlands on the other side of the ocean, and didn't think much about the time difference. It was around 06:00 hrs, basically I woke him up. I apologized and he said it was ok, he had a busy day coming anyway 😅 I told him about my quest for a copy of 'Can't Stop' and he got exited about that. After chatting for a while he asked me my home adress, and sent me two 12" singles!!! I will never forget this kind gesture of Guy Pleasant, and 'Can't Stop' is still top favourite in my book!
I had a similar experience with +8 Records - Richie Hawtin - when they made their first "12 back in the day I contacted him not to ask for any vinyl but just to say I loved it . 3 weeks later a parcel arrived with 5 unreleased test pressed vinyl. I'll never forget that .
@@djx-ray1876 great reaction by Richie. His track 'Substance Abuse' is another favourite of mine. Cool that you also contacted him just out of enthousiasm!
Absolutely right, I think the reason for that are: 1. Everything was new and exciting then, there was new ground to explore 2. People weren’t solely influenced only by dance music, as it was relatively new, inspiration came from many different genres 3. The genres themselves hadn’t solidified as strongly yet, sounds weren’t as homogenous so this led to experimentation beyond confines of what a style ‘should’ sound like
Purple ohms, Raindance, smoke machine, flat line lasers, time tunnel lasers then strobes...... then DJ plays a moment in time or Searching or both.. who knows what went down but whatever it was it was top class. We were a privileged generation. PEACE
The first time I heard this song on a mix tape back in 1990 I was blow away. This song is ageless. Nothing beats a classic. Tribal deep/techno! This is the best mix version ;)
This track is one of my most revered and cherished sounds of absolutely all techno. Still sends a shiver down my spine when I hear this start. An all time great, rarely surpassed by any other.
Oh sweet yes. I was 12 when this came out and hearing it again, still banging as ever and not to mention with that Teddy Pendergrass vocal sample to boot
Got its first release in 1988 on Pleazure Recs, re-released in 1990 on Loaded Recs and another re-release in 1993 on Bush Recs. Proves that certain tracks withstand the tests of time.
@@popcycles It could happen, there's an old Italian house track called Get A Super!!! By Arkanoid, which is listed IIRC 1993/1994, but I swear I heard it being played as far back as 1991 and others seem to think so as well.
I worked as a barman in the Astoria when crazy club were there on Saturday nites. What a brilliant time I had there. Dancing on the tables upstairs off my head when I should’ve been behind the bar right at the top ha ha. Wicked times

Great tune, one of my all time favs, but no way was this released in '88. Had a debate about this with other vinyl lovers / collectors on another website, not one of them bought or heard this in '88. The general concensus was '90.
Impossible. There were a few debates many vinyl lovers had on a music forum about this track and one actually got in touch with Guy Pleasant who confirmed he registered the copyright for the track on October 17th 1990, it was likely released later that year or very early 1991. i.pinimg.com/564x/ef/18/fc/ef18fc91bebfa8a25248e19ce6a8dc19--registration-date-dates.jpg
