    Nick's tone is in his hands. If you have a somewhat noisy rig, it is the player who's rig it is, that will be the missing piece of the equation. It's a delicate thing.

    • @tysonrinker8089
      @tysonrinker8089 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There's something to be said for boutique pedals NOT made in China.
      Like everything else produced overseas, the only criteria is low cost per unit, and such tech is designed for the landfill, so you will buy another sooner.The Line 6 and Digitech are renowned for their low quality,and the TC isn't far behind.Compare this to U.S . builders that still offer lifetime maintainece on hand assembled gear.Support Western small businesses instead of international corporations whenever possible.

    I think it's worth noting that some of the most legendary tones many people hear on records (even live ones) are done with some studio magic. A lot of guitar tones by themselves without the context of what's being played sound harsh or strange but when mixed in with a full band it sounds better and the rest of the band fills in gaps.
    And let's not forget that most of the tone is in the fingers and Nick wasn't playing the guitar. His tech was.

    I can't believe someone else is using a 1980s MIJ Fender Strat . . . well except for me. I don't see anyone at any level of fame use a Fender from that time.
    You know those were just about the only Fender Strats you could get from 1985 - 1987 or so. The ones with the big bridges were "the" mass produced Fender Strats that were sold everywhere in the U.S. until Fender got there newly bought company/factory in the U.S. ready to go for mass production of all things Fender that we know today.

    Using a metronome doesn't automatically make you a robot. Using a metronome gives you a reference point to better feel the song and play accordingly. Some players obviously prefer to not use metronomes because they have natural rhythm. But some players will want it just to remind them where they are.

    For fucks sake guys! Not all rigs have to sound perfectly crafted and like everyone else. There is room for people to experiment with sound. And for all the bedroom guitarists who have never actually gigged, don't judge a sound until you've heard it in the mix. The sweetest solo guitar tones can get swallowed up in band mix. And some rigs of brilliant guitarists who sound awesome with the band, suck in isolation.

    This interview felt so awkward to watch overall. It felt like she was having such a hard time getting anything out of him or anything, and it was pretty much a stagnant interview. And it's slightly disappointing to see someone with all of that gear and have such little understanding of how it works. And all of those guitars, could've really been just limited to two or three with an actual understanding of gear. Bummer, he didn't even talk about his open tuning either which is one of the biggest factors in Nicks sound.

      @@tysonrinker8089 i kinda just thought he was a humble guy. of course he knows more about them.
      I think he was also just letting her run the interview, and she definitely seemed like she enjoyed asking so many questions, instead of only getting to ask a few that he gave LONG answers to. That can be really annoying when you have questions. (I do that too much, make mountains of molehill questions)
