Bobby Heenan didn’t ruin the Hogan moment because the character had ALWAYS BEEN ANTI-Hogan. Even when Hogan was good Heenan used to say he wasn’t all people thought he was
I know Sam works with WWE in the preshows, but Jesus you don't have to glaze them for a paycheck raise. Roman turning heel was great, but it's not the best because when he turned, the hero to beat him wasn't even back in the company yet. When Vince said "Bret screwed Bret", Austin had already stunned him before then, establishing heroes to fight the boss. Hogan turned heel and he had The Horsemen, Sting, Luger, The Giant to fight.
Hogan is # 1 for sure. For years he was the Good guy who said to little kids to eat your vegetables, take your vitamins and say your prayers. The pro American super hero to the fans. After that he turn his back on the fans to create a super heel group.
@@bigheadedm He was coasting in a safe place finally over as a face. But they had a bunch of dudes like Austin and Rock acting like cool heels but over as faces. Not easy to he a heel against and many didn't want to be or just couldn't be a serious heel. If he doesn't turn and break up the group which he was being perduaded not to then all those mega over faces have no real nemesis. In hindsight it makes a lot of sense - but back then he had a good thing going and it was a risk.
I thought Seth Rollins' heel turn is better cause it was ujnexpected. Roman's heel turn was unexpected too but Seth's heel turn was more shocking. My favorite heel turn is possibly Hulk Hogan turned heel in WCW to join the nWo.
Best Heel turn was Vince on Bret that unchained a lot of moving parts in the industry best heel turn in keyfabe that mixed with real life during for at least 3 decades xD
Dude, this is the definition of living in the moment. It's an all-timer for sure. But Hogan's turn changed the literal industry. Man was the best heel talent of the decade.
Honestly Roman turning heel, what I remember alot of fans saying was "about time" I don't know if it was mainstream but there was a sizable portion of the WWE audience who thought Roman was suffering from bad booking as a good guy. It was like when Vince wouldn't let rocky maivia turn heel initially even though the fans were chanting "die rocky die"
Most of the contrary 'fans' who'd do smart cheering/booing also moved on to AEW in the same year, meaning the people watching the show once the pandemic lifted actually wanted to see the show, not smarks getting themselves over.

As much as I hate Hogan (with every fiber of my being), I'd still give him the nod for the greatest heel turn ever. Literally an iconic moment in entertainment as a whole.
Factual comment. Hogan’s WCW heel turn put WWE $6 million in the negative, cost Vince $5 million of his own personal fortune, and would have completely put them out of business in 1997 had McMahon not captured lighting in a bottle with Steve Austin.
The bloodline was stale after a year. Given that every fucking roman match ended the same way. 56 cousins interfering in every damn match not only is repetitive, it’s fucking dumb. If 56 were banned from ringside, here comes cousin #57, if 57 is banned here comes 58.
I remember when I wasn't even very into this, hadn't seen a PLE or any TV at all, when I had only passing knowledge of how people hated Roman and that turning heel would fix him, I remember seeing the clip on TH-cam panning to Heyman when it happened and even I was like, OH SHIT.
I think Roman's was the "most necessary" but not the best executed or most unexpected. If there's a significant portion of the fan base desperately calling for someone to turn heel, once it happens it's a sigh of relief and not a collective gasp of shock and horror.
Hulk Hogan’s heel turn was legendary but his creative control abuse led to the demise of WCW. From the “fast count” in the match with Sting to the Fingerpoke of Doom.
You can hate Hogan until your dying breath for the person he is outside of wrestling, but denying Bash 96 as the best heel turn of all time is just ridiculous. Changed an entire era of wrestling.
