I LOVVVVVVE THIS !!! My mother had all his music, and she would play this on Saturdays when we'd do chores around the house, we had a speaker system throughout the house - she'd put this on!! LOL WOW - talk about memories. I used to do my dustin' and vaccuming to this and dance around the house. lol Thanks for a great post!!!
my mom and dad played this and green onions all the time... miss them both . they would dance and clap there hands smile at each other and then we all dance around the living room..
excellent just discovered this today from npr. Thank god for npr, im sure glad i donated in the last fund drive. But lastly thank god for mr lewis, i knew instantly i liked this song what great talent and skill! bravo gentlemen. i hope you had a great life
LOL. I should have had this song on my 8 track list 50 years ago at the drive-in........dangggggg.......... (you picked an awesome tune to give it up may I say !!!!!)
Man its 1976, stay press - suit - loafers - hair slicked back and we are dancing all nighters to Northern Soul. This track grooooves. Cheers for the upload from Scotland.
It has a little bit of that In Crowd intro sound to it ❤ You automatically recognize Ramsay Lewis with his own touch on the piano! Thank you! Johnny Montreal Canada 🇨🇦
this was and still is one of the best dance tunes to dance to with your talcum powder on the floor,,,, if you danced only you will understand lol keep the faith
Besides Oh Happy Day we weren't allowed to listen to Secular Music But of course someone recorded it from a AM Radio Station and we listened and danced. Listen to the talent of the Piano, Horns, Drums, Tambourine and of course handclaps. You've done great work here for Gospel History Soultime. Tku.
now then now then as it happens guys and girls the one and only ramsey lewis .jimmy saville god bless him what a character.i,m sure he used this on his pick of the pops countdown as well as the in crowd.this groove is as infectious as the herbie hancock classic cantaloupe island.i love it!!
This music is medicine. This makes me feel young again. It gets my feet moving and my blood pumping. But feel sorry for those who dislike this. They are dead but don't know it yet.
I made a big mistake and sold my vinyl collection a few years ago. All my northern soul and Bowie collection. My funkadelic, bootsy Collins - what was I thinking? ( she sobs )
It's so funny, hearing this described as Northern Soul - my dad was listening to it so many years ago as be-bop jazz! But it's the most amazing track. I absolutely adore "And I love her" from the same period. Super cool. Thanks for posting ;o)
The apocryphal explanation for the term 'northern soul' you hear around is... The term 'northern soul' was coined in a record shop in London to describe the somewhat more up tempo style of music requested by travelling northern football fans which was popular in the northern club scene of the time in Wigan, Blackpool etc .... at a time when the more mellow west coast soul sound was become popular in the south of England...
this is the title music from "Berichte von heute" (Reports from today, a daily news show) and it was playing everyday on german public radio NDR since 1979.
How wonderful of you to feature Ramsey Lewis. Today, May 27th 2016, is his 81st birthday! Please check out my youtube channel honoring Ramsey Lewis and other great African-American artists like Robert Johnson, “King of the Delta blues singers”; Ernest Hogan, “Father of ragtime”; James Brown, “Godfather of soul” and Patti LaBelle, "Godmother of Soul" - all born in the month of May.
I remember hearing another Ramsey Lewis version of this song a few times on the radio a few years back, featuring just the Trio - Lewis on piano and his backing players on bass and drums with no other instruments backing them up, and that version was played in a slightly more uptempo mode. I'd been trying to find that version of that song for some time (including on TH-cam), but had no luck until I finally found and downloaded it on iTunes from The Essential Ramsey Lewis - The Columbia Years recently.
years ago Ramsey would play clubs in North minneapolis along Plymouth Ave. with his group which had a local guy, Bobby Lyle, and some guys named Young and Holt...Young-Holt went off to do their own thing and were replaced by a guy named Maurice White....
Beginning of the Seventies is when I first heard this.... and led me to.... herbie hancock, junior washington, stanley turrentine, george benson,.....still a great tune.....
Soul music doesn't get any better than this, absolutely amazing.
