Absolutely brilliant to hear this kind of music at its best, every musician is on top of their game,.... the soloists stand out and love that moment at 1.32 when the clarinet takes over and someone give it that "yeah" moment. Love it.
I saw him at the Wood Green jazz club in the 50's. Where Dick Charles and the City Gents and so many others appeared. Dancing the Onions !! OMG where does time go. Thanks for all the music Kenny. RIP xx
Never missed his shows back in the day, though just a kid, I really appreciated him, sad loss to the jazz and music world, RIP legend Kenny, we will never forget you!
My dad had two albums of his, and I must have played them to death. He was the reason I picked up the trumpet, and even though I don't play that instrument any more, I'm still well involved in music. A chunk of my youth got ripped to pieces today...RIP.
Kenny and the boys dressed in 60s suits doing dixie jazz and the Beatles thunderstorm just around the corner. They weathered that storm though and remained popular. The first I knew of them was on a BBC themes record of them playing the theme: "Saturday Night At the Mill". It was the best thing on the record and I was hooked.
I have a vinyl Kapp label album "More Kenny Ball." Gadz00kers! It's fantastic. My favorite track is 'Old Green River," sung by Kenny Ball. I had the double check my turntable speed. It was right on! Gad they play a frantic tempo!!!
I once rode on one of those - but YEARS after their days with trad jazz bands on the top. This trip was arranged by Chris Carey (Spangles Muldoon) to visit Radio Caroline - a journey for which the RIVER boat was TOTALLY unsuitable for. Of course, Chris is no more and Caroline's sunk, as well...
Yes, in the Fifties, Britain "reinvented" Skiffle and Dixieland - and produced music that was (sort of) original. I'm retired to Thailand and here, the Thais have done the same thing with western Seventies soft rock!
Sinisterly, his body was not cold before a piece I put up in stereo of four of his greatest hits got TORN DOWN. This piece remains (for the moment) as it was LIVE...
Great performance, although I prefer the more folk flavored version of The Brothers Four. But everything Kenny Ball did was top notch: class, talent, showmanship- his band was great and exuded tremendous joy.
A beautiful hymn, turned into a Jazz dance tune? Well, if that's your taste, ok I guess after all that's what the Alamo was all about. Freedom to express yourself.
I was going to say that it would be revenge for the middle bit of Holst's "Jupiter" being hijacked and turned into a hymn - but then I checked and discovered that THIS WAS NEVER A HYMN! It was written solely as a song for the movie "The Alamo" and covered by various artists in a variety of styles. Including, as here - TRAD JAZZ.
There HAS to be a CD of Kenny's greatest hits. They were originally recorded in stereo, too. If not, there are FOUR up on another site (including THIS number) at vimeo.com/78225310

I thank your dad for being a part. I make my 93 year old client to listen to this and he enjoys each and every time I do.

That yeah! sounds like Kenny himself.
What a brilliant, skilled group of fantastic musicians, I defy anyone who won’t tap their feet at songs like this
I was originally from Ilford like Kenny Ball and he knew my family. My sister went to the same school as his daughter Gillian.
I can't claim to be a jazz aficionado, but bands like Kenny Ball's, Chris Barber's and Acker Bilk's are something I can listen to and enjoy anytime.
Rest in peace, Kenny. Some of the finest Dixieland I've ever heard, even though it is from across the pond :-)
Green leaves of Summer..one of my most favourite memories,,,Thank you Kenny and Band.
I love Trad jazz, and Kenny and the crew were great exponents.
This was real Music...Kenny Ball was our best band.
His 3rd hit in the 60s. RIP Kenny but your music lives on forever.
Great Band. My Favorite British Trad Band.

Very unsung, one of the best musicians of our time

Amazing band

Not original but incredibly good
Sinisterly, his body was not cold before a piece I put up in stereo of four of his greatest hits got TORN DOWN. This piece remains (for the moment) as it was LIVE...
Great stuff...Louis Armstrong himself said that Kenny had “lungs like a bull”
Fabulous times
R I P KENNY

I think John Bennett. He was with Kenny from more or less the start - right up until Kenny passed recently.
more good music from Kenny ball this was also the background music in the film the Alamo which starred john waine
Great sound. The Alamo theme. 'Let the legend grow and grow.'
DAMN - you're right. I sub to an alert - but it is an American service. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll modify my info. Another great gone...
the most polished performance ever
Talent plus
Definitely it is John Bennett and still plays as good as ever. Think Keith Ball now leads the Jazzmen who is obviously The late Kenny Balls son.
John Bennett was GOOD!!
Indeed. Rest in peace, Mr. Bennett. You've surely earned it, you and Ron Bowden both.
legends .... the alamo theme there.
These were playing New Orleans jazz before all of tuba skinny was born and in England as well

+FlashHarry621 So maybe someone will make Hip Hop version and write some lyrics...
BeaTiful..........Braviss........mo from edward
After that number they played "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter", where is that video?...
Can I get a cd album with this track on it?
I just got it on Amazon lol.

It's surprising that Pye recorded them in STEREO, in 1962 - but welcome!
