You missed one more thing at the end. After resetting after that… thing gets a hold of you, you’re outside the castle once more, but this time, Mario’s gone, I believe, and you see one more text box that says the following.
“Everything is better off without you.”
Not trying to be insulting or anything, just pointing out one more thing about this… totally normal game that you missed.

The title screen becomes completely blank then you press start the world seemingly is back to normal with Mario completely gone. Then a slow, ominous little tune fades in and a text box pops up that reads “everything is better off without you”
Every time you restart the game after that, only this happens

You know what’s creepy is I actually had a nightmare a year ago and in it there was a Super Mario 64 2 game
And the title card for it looked exactly like it was in this rom hack just without the 2
And in it there was only one level and it took place in a really small city at night where the buildings trapped Mario since he couldn’t get around them
And there was a manikin of clown dressed in a blue Santa Claus outfit
And every time Mario looked away from him the manikin slowly moved towards Mario without walking or floating
And then eventually he jumpscared Mario and I woke up abruptly
And this rom hack reminds me a lot of that it’s really uncanny

Your copy is suffering a case of A.I dementia, where the personalization A.I deletes certain assets and reuses still existing assets to replace missing ones. This is due to either very rare anti piracy measures within the ROM or cartridge, or incorrect reading of the data. With stuff being reused in places not meant for it, both internally and visually. This causes glitches such as the incorrect address error screen you saw, or the corrupted textures stitched onto a player model with an invalid hex address assigned to its behavior data.

Fun Fact: There’s a reference to something similar to this in B3313! The castle layout is the same once you reach it, but you’re thrown in Whomp’s Fortress instead. Same exact object though, reach the Star and reach the Star again within the time limit or yr d3ad son.
