In the UI Settings for Fenyx you can switch off a lot of elements including the compass, bringing back the intuitive exploration that BotW brought. I think the biggest difference between both is the world itself. Zelda’s world is unfamiliar, quiet, intriguing. Fenyx’s world is familiar; it is Greek mythology, and you’re playing the game while listening to a funny podcast. So the feel of both worlds is different. Both are incredibly fun
I enjoyed Immortals much more the botw. I found Zelda very stressful and taxing where I had fun with immortals and wasn't worried about item breaking, one hit kills, severely underpowered stats and completely lost on where to go. Good for those that enjoy it, but fenyx rising was a sleeper hit that I've really been having a blast with 😎👍
Having played plenty of both I think it's fair to say that BOTW is a more complex, ground-breaking and well-designed game. It's an art form. However, I find myself coming back to immortals much more often, while my BoTW cartridge sits on the shelf gathering dust. Why? 1. Combat: seriously wtf are degradable weapons 2. Character progression: immortals's skill trees may be rudimentary but they are deeply impactful. And it gives you the sense of working towards something. Gear is also done much better, plus there's transmog. 3. Character customisation: I always prefer to make my own character/version of the protagonist 4. Grand narrative: I love Greek mythology and, as someone who never played a Zelda game before BoTW, I have 0 investment in link's quest & world. Playing through BoTW has not made me care more about Zelda's world narrative than before. 5. Storytelling: personally I like immortals' jokey approach to Greek mythology. So many games and films have done mythology in a serious and onerous manner, while forgetting how Ancient Greek plays and poetry very much portray the gods as divines with human emotions and drives. Immortals playfully reminds us that the powers of these gods haven't stopped them from being petty, annoying and sometimes downright silly. BoTW on the other hand has some fun side quests but the main story and characters are too one-dimensional in their self-righteous infallibility. Again, I want to reiterate that BoTW is the more complex and creative game. In fact, my favourite part of BoTW is in fact it's music scoring, which is just gorgeous. But as an action RPG fan whose favourite game of all time is still Skyrim, Immortals scratches that itch for me. I want to write about BoTW but I want to play immortals.
This is exactly why I never had the urge to play BOTW at all. I never played a Zelda game before and the first time I was introduced to Link was in Smash Bros. I know that if I bought it I would just quit half way through.
I have played a ton of Zelda games in the past basically all from a link to the past forward. I was skeptical of getting into BOTW as it was the first very veery divergent game to what I was used to...when I did finally enter I saw a magnificent game with some flaws that gave overall more freedom in everything. Botw is a great game a new formula of zelda adapted to what the audience of this time wants and needs and its done gracefully and in a groundbreaking way. Now Fenyx would not exist if it wasn't for Botw BUT it's a whole other game based on Botw formula but done different and boy it's AMAZING when I played fenyx I realized that was Botw on steroids and I loved it the world felt alive lush more talk more jokes gone was the ambient sadness of Botw I loved the weapons the effects everything is better on Fenyx at least in my book. Botw is the dad Fenyx is the son made better in many aspects!
I played BOTW for around 300hours but damn I didn't know you can make shades out of weapon's shadow in the desert or create a "hut" out of static tree to make campfire during rain. The crazy thing is it feels like a natural solution in that world
But the best part is in botw they offer multiple solutions for one problem. You don't need to use a tree for shade. You could eat a certain type of fruit, or just equip the ice sword and I'm sure more ways
You can turn off anything you want for the HUD, various notifications, and quest targets. Those being on seemed to be your less liked feature of Immortals and it's easily remedied in the options menu.
If it was intended to be off it should hadn't been in the game at all that's pretty much why they mention it. But basically it's oh botw wasted my time with having my weapons break and the game not pointing where I have to go so it's better.
When you're cataloguing and explaining techniques in-depth you have to put in time into the game. docs.google.com/document/d/1qtYT06sxweRW3tRnovcCc-f4xIOGFNsD02pG1TzloHc/edit?usp=sharing
Not to mention Breath of the Wild came out over three years ago and didn't have the advantage of learning from what worked and didn't work in Breath of the Wild. For instance the combat worked, but the loot system IMO failed in several ways. The world was magnficiant and filled with character, but you didn't do anything with it. Age of Chaos feels gives you more to do with the world than Breath of the Wild did. Now imagine if we paradoxed breath of the wild so breath of the wild could learn from breath of the wild?! Or we can just wait for the launch of Breath of the Wild 2.
I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece. The story was pretty bad. It wasn’t anything special. The puzzles were easier than I expected them to be. The dungeons were not as good as previous LoZ iterations.
I have been intimidated by how large and complex BOTW is, so I’ve owned it for almost two years and haven’t played it more than a couple of hours. IFR is shorter, more streamlined, and has the super easy Story mode so I easily dove in and fell in hard... clocking 40 hours in two weeks which is more time than I have spent on any game ever. It’s felt like a training class prepping me for BOTW which I will finally commit to. I hope more developers add in this super casual setting because I would buy and attempt so many more big titles with this option (because I have an autoimmune disorder that attacks the nerves in my body, causing me motor difficulties and slower reaction times... so games that require top speed/coordination performance shut me out of play even though my mind understands and enjoys the game challenges/tasks). Good comparison video.
I am finding the puzzles immortals are getting tedious now. There isn’t much else apart from the puzzles that’s all. The battle system starts hard but after a few god powers they also become tedious and repetitive. The characters are okay but it’s literally ‘hi I’m a god and here are three puzzle quests’.
@@adamjensen2304 The problems with Immortals is Ubisoft control design, the terrible targeting system when facing more than one enemy at a time, and quite a few frustrating puzzles that are only that way due to their own gameplay mechanics and is less about actual skill. Also the microtransactions in immortals. Got 10 crashes in around 16 hours on Switch where in Breath of The Wild I only had a single crash hundreds of hours in and it was some kind of freak accident that I was unable to even replicate. I seriously doubt at this point anything will change my mind. It is quite obvious that Breath of The Wild is simply much better overall when it comes to consistent game design compared to Fenyx Rising. But Ubisoft actually produced a game for the first time in a long time that I actually enjoy. Sure there are some irritating Ubisoft things but it is a fun game and very much worth it. But it should never be considered in any way comparable to Breath of The Wild even if Fenyx Rising obviously tries way too hard (or at least seems to) to be like Breath of The Wild.
@Matthew Dawson Better combat isn't exactly true. It is subjective. Both are pretty fluid. Design wise Breath of The Wild is arguably better because it better fits and suits the game overall. Quick pace tapping buttons isn't necessarily better. It is more action oriented in Immortals. BOTW has much more room to be creative in it's combat in comparison. More interesting puzzles? Also not true. They are often poorly designed and take too long in immortals and can be more tedious than anything. BOTW definitely did a better job with balancing the amount and duration of the puzzles and it should be obvious that Ubisoft cannot do puzzle design the way Nintendo can. Unbreakable weapons is also subjective. They are two completely different kinds of games when it comes to combat design and Breath of The Wild's breakable weapon design, while it could have been arguably tweaked to be better, was still perfectly acceptable in it's entirety. I would say this was probably the most even between the two honestly. They both have a great weapon and leveling system.
@Matthew Dawson Had to break this up. Very few puzzles had to use motion controls and even though I completely agree about the use of motion controls. I would rather not have them mandatory at all. They were still far greater designed and further cemented the feeling of solving puzzles your own way. IE the way you flipped the maze completely over just to shift the ball on a flat surface to the other side. In comparison Immortals had a few extra ways around puzzles but they were much more limited. Lastly the voiced protagonist is also not necessarily better. I didn't care for Fenyx's voice at all and would have preferred him to stay quiet. With Link it is just easier to identify with role playing as him in the game. He should never have a voice. This is purely opinion based as so many other things between the two games. The main problem with Immortals is it's inconsistency. Borrowing great ideas is good and all but when you just borrow great ideas from different games and throw them all in a game you get a game where much of it's core ideas seem to deviate from each other rather than actually benefit. This is why Breath of The Wild is such an amazing game. It is very consistently designed. It may not be for everyone. Immortals isn't either as is pretty much any game ever made. But BOTW was expertly designed and just about every single aspect of it conjoined together and melded into a proper consistent whole. Immortals doesn't do that. Immortals also does not seem to understand how to incorporate any of the ideas from Breath of The Wild with the same or superior quality. Every idea that came from BOTW in particular was inferior as a whole throughout the game.
Botw was my first Zelda game, I got so addicted that I did all the shrines in the first two days of playing it, it's just incomparable, they're similar but there is no comparison
@@jazielalessandri I never encountered any bugs or glitches with my time with the Far Cry series namely the 3rd, 4th, and 5th one. That's just me at least
@@iwtslol4634 100% of the comments here are from Nintendo Fanboys that haven't even played Inmortals and me neither but I can see the str of the game just by looking at the gameplay and I beat breath like 7 times and that game had a lot of issues that people ignore because is zelda.
Fenyx has an edge over BOTW in several categories: boss fights are handled better, the dialog is funny and there's lots of it, characters have personalities, you don't feel like you're spending an eternity just doing shrines or just gathering materials. But Fenyx is still light years behind BOTW in sound design and atmosphere.
BOTW is one of the best games if not the best game of this decade, and the other one being compared to it is a game from a studio that has one of the worst reputation right now and a that game does nothing so special. There is no comparison
I think the fact that a game from that studio can stand toe to toe with BOTW and surpass it in some ways is great. I play video games not reputations. A game doesnt always have to reinvent the wheel sometimes not just do what it sets out to do really well. Look at Cyberpunk people are drooling over it and get it does nothing new really.
@@strikerbowls791 it won the GOTY. And yes I still agree to that nier automata was the one, but that still does not takes away the fact that it was one of the best games of the decade. BOTW nailed open world discovery and exploration like no other game could.
Breath of the wild. It's breath of the wild. There is no competition here. I don't want to diss this new game, but let's be real: nobody is calling Fenix rising one of the best games of all time.
BOTW is great, but also a bit overrated just because it’s a Zelda game. People keep complaining about the stamina and grip gauge, saying Immortals stole that from them...but forgetting about its usage in Shadow of the Colossus. Immortals looks better and sounds better. Also, the combat is better, more fluid and more visually appealing. Another huge plus is that your weapons don’t break all the time and you don’t have to spend an exorbitant amount of time in your menu screen. I was contemplating getting a switch to be able to play BOTW, but Immortals relieved me of that. BOTW revolutionized the in-game physics, but the lackluster combat, weapon breakage (even the master sword), constantly being in your menu system, etc just makes me feel like BOTW is overrated. I know I’m in the minority, but that’s my opinion.
@Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad In terms of exclusives currently? I’d say yes, but that’s subjective anyway. At the end of Switch’s lifecycle? We’ll have to wait and see. In terms of hardware? PSP is the worst.
13:30 is the real reason why this video had to end! The director literally had enough of it and he make a cameo appearance in the background and asked the boys to stop!
The amount of small in game features still amazes me to this day botw is goated for that however fenyx rising is amazingly good as well they both deserve their separate flowers 💐
@@mohammadashikurrahman7530 I remember when people were lifting objects with magnesis and using it to surf in the air across chasms and solves puzzles and what not and they were blown away with it's physics and implementation of it in the environment and I kept thinking to myself...I did that 16 years ago in Psi Ops, in 2004 on the PS2.
I tell you what though, I definitely felt like the rewards for exploration in IFR really beat BOTW by leagues. The stuff you get inside of chests in BOTW is only useful 15% of the time, and with the breakable weapon mechanic it never feels like you truly got a reward. But in Fenyx every single thing you collect in a chest is usable and when you pick up weapons and armor, it's stuff that you get to keep forever!
How do you even get 2300 hours in BOTW? What could he be doing in that amount of time? The game has a huge amount of content but definitely not almost 100 full days worth.
Lol i haven't played immortals and i know that is not true, there's no weapons durability and the voice acting is better in immortals, that alone puts it slightly ahead of breath of the wild. Lmao
@@adamjensen2304 the points are normally valid. AC, Far Cry, UBI’s biggest titles aren’t innovative or that fresh or new IMP. Immortals is a great start albeit similar to BOTW
Think using the powers to solve puzzles comes way before BTOW. Soul Reaver 1 had this ideal, you get a new power and you used it to unlock arenas and dungeons. Zelda had the item system, You need the boomerang to beat the dungeon ete.
I agree immortals is more stream line with the map and location but just because it’s easier to pinpoint things on the map it’s still ur personal choice if u wanna go there keeping the freedom aspect in both games in terms of immersion sure Zelda takes it but immortals is not not off by much it’s like 1A 1B respectively.
@@solid_justice5855 And that’s fine. My point is more somebody trying to figure out which is objectively “better.” Like I prefer Soul Calibur 6 over Tekken 7 but when it comes to which is the more mechanically deep, “better” fighting game, I recognize that it’s Tekken 7 a hundred percent.
So far, Fenyx Rising is the next-gen title that’s impressed me most. I feel that they’ve taken most of the things that were irritating (climbing, swimming, grinding, weapons) in Breath Of The Wild, and improved them. I love the amazing levels of detail and smooth gameplay. And the Greek Mythology is fun. Having a blast so far. I think people get caught up on the similarities and cry rip-off. When it’s simply the evolution of games. If nobody else bothered to take the amazing innovations in games we’d be stuck in a loop. Look at how Doom inspired first-person shooters and pushed them to what they are today.
@@ihx7 I’m 50/50 on that. I hated their short time span but the grind to get the unbreakable sword was good. In retrospect, I’ve found that the dungeons are irritating due to their deadliness. But I’m still enjoying it. I don’t sit and play it for days like Zelda though. I’d say it’s a good distraction until the BOTW sequel, and a great sign of things to come.
Immortals is great and for people that like direction I found it better. If you're more curious and do not like a marker telling you where to go BOTW. Narrative wise Immortals is a lot better. In typical fashion Zelda game stories are so shallow. Both great games.
If I’m being honest-in my opinion- immoral Fenix is the clone game I’ve been looking for a long time as a casual gAmer Character customization, open explanation, non breakable weapons, simple yet more optional depth combat -and don’t forget my character speaks. The only grip-and I’m not too far into the game yet- is I have yet see any other human being with bustling towns and infrequent crashes bugs and glitches that I hope Ubisoft fix.
Should change the title to call it a comparison. You're gonna get too many morons disliking or making negative comments because they don't want BotW having to contest the title of best.
@@jannemakela8107 ikr i played immortals and made my opinion i enjoyed botw more and i will not buy the game i hate it when channels like this spark this shit up
BOTW is king of open world in aspects of travel, but it severely lacks content in its world which mostly feels sterile. Immortal feels better at that department with an actual plot and more density in the world
'No other game came close to Breath of the wild's ingenuity in allowing players to use the game's consistent rules to 'break the game'. I don't really agree. I think there's a good number of points of comparison outside of the modern AAA open world game space. Breath of the wild is unique in how physics based some of these are (although there's been physics games for years that also do that sort of thing.)
After finishing Fenyx, the final grade drops quite a bit, and this is due to some really unfortunate end-game content. As mentioned, there are 4 quadrants, which you really explore as you see fit, and, with a few exceptions, you can really travel wherever you want. See a shiny object and head to it. The puzzles are mostly enjoyable, and the world is fun and beautiful to travel. Then...whew, the endgame. After you complete the quadrants, a 5th region opens up, and it is a slog, a real slog. The open world mechanics are completely removed by vast areas that remove your stamina, meaning flight/climbing/abilities, anything that uses stamina, is now unavailable. Instead, they give you one road that spirals up and down the final mountain, and one very specific path that you must follow, that isn't always obvious. Then, minor spoiler, the very last area is a vault that is the worst aspects of all other vaults, all in one. Near the end of the quadrant section, I was skipping vaults anyway, but the last vault is mandatory, long, repetitive, and ends in a really long battle, with few opportunities to save along the way. The game doesn't respect the players time. So, if you're just looking for a world to explore, and don't really care about completing the game, I'd put this as a solid grade B for that. But for a 'start to finish' game... grade of C-, all due to the very awful last 20%.
Both games are amazing, and I love them both. Although Zelda was a better title for me, I've found the unique points of Immortals really, really fun as well! It definitely was a huge surprise for me! Would recommend!
It’s actually really annoying. You can easily tell all the youtubers promoting it were paid to say that shit. I guess it’s just aimed towards dumb little kids that believe everything a youtuber says.
No the game is fun. I hated new Zeldas. It’s becoming too hard and complex. I don’t want to spend entirely in one game. Immortals is funny, good, easy and story is fantastic than Zelda. Trust me u will like it. Don’t spend entire life there in one game. We have plenty to play
I like both I prefer Immortal Fenyx only because the I love the weapon skins and the fact that your weapon doesn’t break after a usage. You can save your game online and play it in every console. I love the waypoint I like the BOTW exploration but to many times I didn’t know where I needed to go and I had to wing it. For me again I love..I guess traditional..it is like Assassin creed but I can definitely see why a person would prefer breath of wild.
we all know Breath of the Wild is a Masterpiece but ill give UBI credit the made an amazing game in immortals, I enjoyed it a lot and ill have to say some of those puzzles had me stumped for a little bit. cant wait for part two.
I like Fenyx over Zelda as a newcomer to open world exploration games. I have both an xbox and a switch. I really didn't know where to go or what to do after reaching the big tower in Zelda. In Fenyx, it clearly tells you where the quests are and you could explore any part of the world without losing the location of quests.
For someone who live in Brazil where there’s no official Nintendo resellers Immortals is the way to go for me since I’ve always wanted to play BOTW but couldn’t. Happy it’s so similar TBH.
People keep seeing this as a rip off of botw but I see this as another game like botw that I can play on my pc. I had a lot of fun with botw and Im sure ill have the same fun with immortals. Tho I would say not having to stop the game to switch to a new weapon during combat is a plus.
Both games are amazing. I personally like IFR more because I'm a Ubi fan and because I like Greek mythology, and I wasn't 100% happy with BOTWs combat and weapon system
This is the sort of content that really shows us the real differences between these two games. Its almost as if being a BOTW clone is a holistic view, but in truth its just marketing. Botw is just so incredibly deep while still retaining the sort of simplicity that everyone can play, while immortal looks suuper deep but its just what the screen shows and it doesnt go beyond that. And not one review reaches that conclusion. But this video did! Perfect! :) good job

To be honest Immortals is a great open world game and probably best game Ubisoft has put out in years. I loved the world, the visuals and even most of the bantering between characters is genuinely funny becouse of the absurdity. Biggest complaint people have is in regards to exploration. Many say that pinging system destroyed the exploration, but I view it more as optional feature. I used it like breath of the wild only using custom markers and getting hints at where something might be. That made exploration much more enjoyable for me but I think the map markers are good for some players. It is optional feature and I think options are never a bad thing 😊
I think it's impressive that Immortals Fenyx Rising can be considered and stand it's own against BOTW, it's like GTA vs Saints Row really, both good in their own right. Personally I like Immortals a lot more, I feel like if BOTW wasn't a Zelda game it would be pretty mediocre.
I really appreciate the nuance in this discussion, specially because how structured it is and how it avoids the superficial arguments that we've all heard before when people compare BOTW to other games.
There are VoT that you cannot complete w/o certain Godly Powers. BotW did not have this issue & is better for it. The Shrines are all beatable w/ your equipment from the GP. This issue is my only gripe.
Personally I'm enjoying Immortals more mainly because it takes a different approach with some of its gameplay and also drops a lot of the annoying systems BoTW had but that's just me
Having played both, my take is that Immortals is about doing the same busy work activities over and over again and BOTW is about exploration and wonder of what's beyond the next mountain. Immortals is fun for shorter play sessions, due to constant rewards, and BOTW is one i could play for hours at a time.
Its a ploy to keep breath of the wild relevant and because immortals imitated a good bit from breath of the wild. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but with breath of the wild it makes no sense. Breath of the wild is mediocre at best.
You say “flurry rush and parry” are the biggest parts taken from BotW, but those mechanics are from Assassins Creed: Odyssey, so they are copying themselves in that specific scenario, not BotW. Obviously the overall game takes heavy inspiration from BotW, but not the dodge and parry.
Those are from Bayonetta, though you can probably trace it back even further and make a case for it being from Max Payne if you really wanted to. Everything borrows from everything else at this point. Immortals is just more up front about its inspiration in terms of world and visual design. Fixating on what’s original and what isn’t as a determinant of quality is stupid. Well-executed amalgams of more popular franchises are great. They’re a way of complementing things that didn’t work for some people in the source material. I’m reminded of Darksiders in its heyday.
Immortal rising is more fun in the first two hours the botw has in 20. Weapons don’t break the world is much more diverse and beautiful. Couldnt bring my self to finish botw on two different play throughs. Just beat immortals 5 minutes ago.
Debatable, the puzzles do seem really easy like they were built for a 5yr old at first. Then they slowly get more and more challenging. Comparing exploration, there is a lot more to discover in Immortals and the far sight system imo is actually really helpful when planning your route. I dont understand why these guys were saying that there weren't waypoints in BoTW because there were. Combat isn't just slightly better, its miles better than BoTW's. Overall, immortals makes BoTW look bland and empty by comparison. But no one will acknowledge that because one, it was made by ubi, and two every game journalist is carefull not to piss off the loyal nintendrones.
@@DropoutJerome and overall botw is definitely better lmao no comparison every little thing has a purpose in botw the sound design art style everything is perfect
@Maxim N idk. They both have dodge n parries and flurry rush. But Fenyx has aerial combat and combat skills. Thats why i said it was slightly better or deeper
Combine the world interaction of breath of the wild with everything else immortals and you have a near flawless game. Immortals is better in nearly every way than breath of the wild. But without the world to back it up, I cant justify saying its better. They are similar games, but ultimately give 2 pretty different experiences.

Some people are just curious and want to see the differences.

@@joeypbear the story was mostly told by environmental story telling, there is a lot there and it's pretty interesting
I’ve enjoyed the puzzles more in Immortals than in BotW. I love both games though.
Wow really It’s the other way for me I think the puzzles are annoying and stupid in immortals

You guys...do know you can turn off specific hud elements to be more immersive right?
Breath of the wild is incredible. Immortals is decent enough.
How many hours did you put into immortals?
@@adamjensen2304
The problems with Immortals is Ubisoft control design, the terrible targeting system when facing more than one enemy at a time, and quite a few frustrating puzzles that are only that way due to their own gameplay mechanics and is less about actual skill.
@Matthew Dawson
Better combat isn't exactly true.
@Matthew Dawson
Had to break this up.

Ubisoft already had the parry mechanics in AOC franchise
And the dodge/flurry rush mechanic.
Yep
Yep, the hard on people have for BotW is amazing. 🙄
could be just because they like the game
11:00 this isn't true. It does not show you where the blue orbs are.
Immortals improved on pretty much every aspect of BOTW.

Those are from Bayonetta, though you can probably trace it back even further and make a case for it being from Max Payne if you really wanted to. Everything borrows from everything else at this point. Immortals is just more up front about its inspiration in terms of world and visual design.
