Every single person to ever work with Taylor Swift says she is the easiest artist they worked with. Her work ethic is just superb. Queen of productivity!
Taylor has been open about how she was bullied in middle school and some time in high school. She once said that whenever she was having a bad day at school, she would comfort herself by saying “it’s ok, I can write a song about this later”. Writing songs, journaling, and playing her guitar are what kept her happy during bad times which is true even till this day. I think that’s why she’s such an amazing writer, she understands how to convey emotions in lyrics because she has been doing that since middle school. But then again, because it’s so true that her songs are like her diary, a lot of people sadly criticize her for being too personal or vulnerable in her music. Taylor is honestly an amazing artists, can’t wait to see what she’s doing in like 10 years.

I remember a tweet Taylor posted years ago about how she was out somewhere with her family and she was standing there, staring off into space. Her brother came up and said something to her and she said, “sorry, I was writing a song in my head.” And he just replied, “oh sorry, didn’t realize you were working.” and slowly backed away.

I’m in her top 2% listeners. Which is less compared to y’all, but that just means I’ve gotta listen to her more.
One of my favorite lyrics of hers is from the song Story of Us. It goes “I’ve never heard silence quite this loud”. She has a ton of clever lines in that song. And also in the song Mine she says “you made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter”. I noticed that she uses a lot of opposing words or imagery to make a point.
I love that lyric in "Mine" as well!

It blew my mind recently listening to her debut album how clever her lyrics were even as a teenager "Our song is a slamming screen door, sneaking out late, tapping on your window" is such a creative metaphor

I can't tell you how much it infuriates me when people say Taylor has no talent. Like it's indisputable. It's not an opinion to think she isn't talented, they are just plain wrong. Non fans associate her with her singles and think she's awful (which I don't understand anyway because even her singles are great, just not as complex). If they even bothered to listen to her lyrics they would understand why she gets the praise that she does.
I've seen someone say "unpopular opinion but Taylor's song writing isnt as good as everyone makes out" and I do not understand. Like her lyrics are literal poetry how can someone think it's not good?

Even Taylor's singles are mostly superior tho. Take Love story, Blank Space, Style, new Romantics, Safe and Sound, Lover, Cardigan etc for examples. Like name me one pop song that went number 1 on BB for more than 5 weeks with the longest chorus and non-repetitive lyrics like Blank Space! None. Thats how exceptional she is.

Taylor does have a very extended vocabulary. Sometimes, even a native British person, I've had to look up a word from one her songs because I never heard of it before. Like in her song from folklore called 'the last great american dynasty', there's a line in the first verse that says "the wedding was charming, if a little gauche" - I'd never heard of that word gauche before

Means "awkward", "clumsy". Originally it means "left" (as in the opposite of right), so I think it meaning "clumsy" comes from a long time ago when being a lefty was considered a bad thing and everyone was forced to use their right hand for everything and so the lefties (gauchers, in French) were clumsy.

Her lyrics in Treacherous are some of her most underrated in her entire catalogue

And that's what I think of when I watch Taylor write songs.
Per her having a rather large vocabulary she has discussed how she keeps binders full of names she likes, her favorite words, and even phrases.
It seems she 'gets' something and follows it until it sounds 'true'
And she likes to bait and switch and be funny, to surprise, entertain
?It is also more the beat than the melody (topline), beat and cadence, and key and progression and everything coming together so she hears it fully and everything falls into place. natural talent and hard graft and drive and maîtrise - if you get everything moving enough it takes on its own momentum and you have less 'work' to land it

all from the Reputation album. It is said to be the "you either love it or hate it" kind of album because of how different it is from Taylor's usual sound.
Reputation is my favourite album of hers.

I think that the spreadsheet idea is just great. I'm not a swiftie but I do listen to her songs and thanks to this video I'm getting to know Taylor more. I think that the spreadsheet itself allows the fans to choose the best videos of their faves to show to those who are not in the fandom. It's like giving a "what to watch" list (I hope the message gets through, I'm not a native English speaker)

I love delving into lyrics of songs. I drive my family crazy. They just want to listen to a song. I like pause the songs right in the middle and talk about the words. Taylor is one of the greatest songwriters who has have ever lived.

Regarding her using common phrases, in that particular interview she meant that she likes to take a common phrase and twist it. For example, LGBTQ+ members are sometimes told to 'calm down' when they just simply want to freely express themselves. So in her song, Taylor takes this phrase, commonly used by haters, and points it against them, revealing that it's actually them who have some issues with anger management and 'need to calm down'.
However, Taylor is also great in what you mentioned - finding unique ways of saying common things. She's been improving this area of her writing a lot too. In a song from 2019 she sings: Windows flung right open, autumn air/ Jacket 'round my shoulders is yours. In 2020 it is: 'November flush and your flannel cure'. The meaning is almost the same but the lyric is much more concise and poetic.

I feel the same way about any way of art and it is a sad feeling that it can’t be seen, heard, or felt by any others, at times. The one thing I respect about TS is that she’s incredibly ambitious and her famil absolutely used all of their great resources to keep encouraging her passion. If everyone had just an ounce of her ambition and support, lord. The world would be far more colorful. She’s so naturally talented but also has the unique combination of natural talent and ambition, mixed with the ability of being supported in learning music theory and multiple instruments. She was told if she really loved this, then every part of her will go into school and music. It’s amazing. Her music is her literally mind. I bet those cell phones are going to be auctioned for trillions one day 😂😂😂

when she says writing it in a song imo she means that literally, translating the feelings/events to sound - play the music (taylor's songbooks - not all arrangements on the web are hers) yourself - you'll hear the words written musically as conversation, the emotions (pent up unshed tears in atw), the whine in your voice when you can't keep it from slipping because you're so upset (should've said no, and others), betty if you play the right hand is like that small voice in the english patient when hana sings to kip - the voice is the only true thing in the darkness...
I think I have the same way of expressing how or why the way I do I think it's easier for a vulnerable person to sound out or describing how you felt on that time.

Coolest part about this video is that the original seems to take for granted that its viewer is familiar with the finished versions of the songs (e.g. we know what they sound like, how the lyrics continued to change, and when the video changes which song it is featuring). It's cool that even without that context (from what I can tell) you have picked up on her insane talent. I highly recommend you check out Reputation, then once you fall in love with that take on 1989, then once familiar with that go forward to Lover or backward to Red depending on which one strikes you at first listen. Just generally expand outward from Reputation - I think you will really love that record.

You weren't wrong about the whole synonyms things. Normal artist would create 2 rhyme schemes for each verse and repeat the same chorus. She creates different rhyme for each verse and different chorus and even a change off with a bridge. Examples: cardigan and champagne problem
