I made the training map Aim_Rush as the first ever thing I built in a real map editor, and initially I was trying to build it as a night map with a brightly lit warehouse interior, but I struggled so much with lighting the scene as well as in monarch for example, so I just gave up eventually and made it bright as shit, it's what the players wanted to be fair, it's an aim training map after all

Sunny, overcast/dusk/morning, raining, night. Sunny would have the highest probability, while night would have the lowest probability to get chosen (simply because most people prefer sunny maps). But this would bring a lot of variety to the maps we know and love.

for casuals id actually love if they added daytime cycle maps. i love the aesthetic of night, so if we could play any daytime map in random time, aka nights, sunsets etc, thatd be cool. For competitive... there is potential for visibility issues. Like in one map you said there are no visibility issues yet i see fully black tunnel with metal bars. CT could be hiding there and be harder to spot than if the background was white. Thats why i think they would be perfect for casuals, to have fun, find the darkest corner you can find, hide there etc, to mess around, but it would be annoying in competitive to get shot from a corner which you cleared but enemy was simply invisible, your team cant use that corner because you have brighter player model.

Here me out: map that is really dark with few light spot, but in the shop menu there are 2 more untility item: NVG and Flash-light !, Imagine Insurgency Night map but in more compact CS2
I played a night version of dust2 from the workshop to 1v1 a friend (because we couldn’t find the real one) and it was 10x harder because you couldn’t see sh*t.
Volvo would need to reimplement flashlight and nvg to make night/dark maps suitable to play. I loved night version of old csgo dust 2 but it was still too bright imo. Acceptable compromise would be ubran night maps because you have an excuse for shitton of lights around the map.
They already do it. It works best on foggy maps, but is kinda too weak for darkness. I think they dont wanna make it stornger cus, then it looks a bit weird.
Just swap regular player models for neon green player models on night maps. That's what cheaters do when they use nightmode. Works just fine and it looks kinda cool too.

My conclusion is that the community is still experimenting with the source 2 mapping tools, and it's apparent they can make even better night maps that soruce 1 ever did. So even tho right now theres not many night maps, we will probably see more in the coming future. You're right tho that I could have made myself clearer. I'll keep this in mind. maybe if valve added bright versions of CT, so they contrast with the dark ambient or something and the map makers could use it for darker maps

On valve developer website. Just search cs2 skylist, and you can find all of the skybox and lighting settings each map uses.
