- This restaurant chain is known for its endless buffet but just last month, the place was shut down for rodent activity with the inspector commenting "there were too many to count" rodent droppings.
"Recently, you were shut down for a rodent infestation." "... No, we had a hot water heater that went out." ... LOL YEAH RIGHT!!!

Unicorn Lady (formerly archiecook55) it is true ,we do mostly buffets with catering business,and many people nasty today,lick their hands when they get something on them ,then proceed to touch every other serving tinsel on the line, or use a serving utinsel feom one item and stick it on other items down the line,great if it’s seafood so people with a seafood allergy can get sick and many other infractions,we try to keep the lines constantly wiped down,but when you have a long line of people it gets difficult,with out always saying excuse me and move in between people

It's very true! I quit on my 3rd day after seeing what goes on in the back. Fruits and veggies left out in the back hall next to the trash compactor. I even sent pictures to my younger daughter since her mom likes to go there at least once a week. They stopped going afterwards. And for the record, the managers do NOT check temps of any food. If it falls on the floor, or was left outside while health inspectors were there, they still served it to the patrons. Nothing new to see here...it's been going on long before GC opened its doors. And that is why I cook my own meals at home.

this is why people should eat at mom and pop restaurants rather than fast food corporations...mom and pops usually pay their employees better and take pride in their local reputation...not to mention the money stays in the local economy

I once made a mistake by walking into a Golden Corral in Indiana on my way to Chicago. It was a bunch of dirty, morbidly obese people shoving plates and plates of food in their mouths! Then this couple walked in both had to be tipping the scales at 350+ were demanding a table closer to the buffet. God forbid you burn 2 calories walking to the buffet before you consume 10,000 calories! Makes me want to vomit thinking about it

That was my immediate thought: as someone who's worked in a variety of restaurants over 20 years, being pro-active instead of re-active is always been the most important thing I've tried to impress on fellow employees

i stopped eating there when I saw a little kid touching at the buns and putting them back. The chocolate fountain was dirty and chocolate was everywhere. Children and people coughed all over the food. I will literally starve before I go there.
So sad because Golden Corral has done so much for us veterans.

Um, I have worked for Country Buffet and now Golden Corral and I depend on my job there to pay the bills, thanks for trying to push people away from my place of employment.
The health of thousands of people who eat at these unsanitary buffets is more urgent than you individually keeping your job.
Key word in that manager's response "react" in regards to the inspection findings. They should be proactive, not reactive.

Thank God That Here in Massachusetts they are such hard asses about sanitation and safety where food is concerned! I never once have took sick from eating a meal at Golden Corral!

Cook your own food
As of February 7th 2018 I visited Golden Corral last night in Dallas it cost over $17 to get a plate of food with a drink now! There is no senior dinner special which for the last several years has been a total of $10.27. Golden Corral has gone up over $5/ per meal for seniors! I can't afford to eat there anymore. $17 for all you can eat seems like a ridiculous price to me and the manager admitted they have seen a drop off in customers. To hell with them

Russell Crawford Sorry old-timer, but $17 is around average for a mid-range buffet these days (I don't believe GC qualifies as mid-range, though). I agree that it's too much for the crappy food they serve. Even at lower-end Asian buffets you can expect to pay between $12-$14. Things are getting more expensive for everyone. If you want to save money cook at home.

I don't think they give discounts on weekends. The one in North Richland Hills really jacks up the price on Mother's Day, Father's Day, and other special days.
Hey, Elephant Bar in Concord, California was temporarily closed by the health department for reserving uneaten food off of customers plates. Short time later, boom! Same thing, only with a 3 month shut down penalty. Within a year they got busted for the same reason, and now this location was closed permanently by the health department. My son saw it first hand, he was their bartender.

I've got my problems with the FDA (mostly with their being in bed with the industries they are tasked with overseeing), but they can and do good work, just not all the time. We have to stop thinking that all federal agencies are evil in some way. Some are, and some are some of the time. But I do believe that it is necessary to have government oversight, otherwise, we would have something close to total anarchy.
There is a reason why it costs 5 dollars to eat all that garbage. The food comes in frozen every 3 weeks, and is made by some disgruntled middle age dude, and the people serving are kids who can't find jobs anywhere else, and don't take their job seriously. I mean fuck, who would? "I do my best everyday to make sure that this restaurant meets all health standards, and make sure the food here is fantastic!"- said no golden coral employee ever!
You take your chances at *any* restaurant. I know a guy who's nearly 40 y/o, has a minimum wage "career" as a cook, has 4 kids with 4 different women, and can't support himself, much less any of his kids. He lives in a rundown trailer that his 4th baby mama owns that is a rathole, that reeks of dog urine. The sink hasn't worked in over a year, so they leave piles of dirty dishes in it, and wash in the bathroom sink when they need a plate. He smokes and is filthy. He's made food at a friend's place many times, and he makes a mess. He'd use potholders, leave them with a goopy mess on them and put them back in the drawer. Any time he used the oven, he left food droppings that baked on the oven. He worked a long time at a fancy country club, where he made minimum wage and was abused by the boss, yet kept working there. I realized why he stayed there so long after he finally quit, and in rapid succession, got 5-6 different cook jobs from which he was fired for being a fuck-up. Another friend of mine works in a country club office in advertising. She says that their head chef is also mean, and that the cooks are constantly leaving and being replaced, and they are not choosy. It is the place to get a job when you get out of prison. My point is that food service gets the scum of society, even in fancy places, so you're likely paying to eat their filth.

The father of a friend of mine was a restaurant inspector, and she said he would never eat in a restaurant because they all have some violations.

I used to work at a Golden corral in omaha and they bleach the chicken when it starts to smell rotten so they can still cook it.among other things.
But the money was GREAT.
Temperature issues are bull shit. Seriously, how often do we keep food at room temperature at home regularly? Do people get sick? The answer is usually no. I've worked at companies that leave food out like Pizza, subs, and the like out in room temperature for their employees in the break rooms, but no one cites them for health violations and I've NEVER heard of any complaints about employees getting sick for eating pizza left out in room temperature for over 4 hours.
The Chocolate Wonderfall is a wonderful air cleaner. Every speck of dust, dander, virus and germs in the air is trapped in the chocolate, to be circulated over and over for months.
The secret is going to a buffet that is attached to a hotel. If they poison their customers, they are stuck cleaning it up for the next week.
When the "restaurant" behaves in an un-civil way, then it is the job of the appropriate government officials to set things right or close them down. In effect, the "restaurant" was behaving as a child, therefore must be treated as one until they can prove they can act as adults by assuring their customers that the place is clean and safe to eat in.

I'm a conservative, and I think the government needs a hand in this. I think they should be stricter. People eat this shit, it needs to be safe. I'll agree the government likes to over reach its bounds, but food safety is not one of those fields, sometimes it is necessary.

I always see this buffet and to this day its still closed it says on the sign “temporary closed”

The one I worked at was clean with food but dirty with washing plates we just rise water on them even on forks and stuff that’s why I always re wash my dish and always get Plastic ones everywhere I go

Home town buffet, Golden coral are all nasty filthy places. I service kitchen equipment for a living, I've been in these places and have witnessed nasty food cross contamination, food and trays left all over the kitchen. They dont prioritize cleaning until the end of shift.

Every restaurant is a shit storm. EVERY ONE. Especially when it's busy. When it's busy, they don't have time to check temps or clean up. They are trying to get the food orders out as fast as they can. If you eat at Applebee's, or Chili's, or Red Lobster, or ANY chain restaurant.... KNOW your food is mingling with dirty hands (even gloved hands.. gloves never get changed). They change day dots on past due foods to save on food costs, and keep corporate happy. McDonalds... ANY MCDONALDS is cleaner than any Applebee's or Red Lobster. Don't fool yourself thinking this is only at buffets. At least at McDonalds... you know you're getting processed, frozen shit. But it's not gonna kill you like the shit I've seen in "regular" restaurants. Just ask to see the kitchen during a rush and you'll see for yourself.
I'm with you on that one. No restaurant is perfect. I'm not saying that just because Golden Corral is my favorite restaurant. But, everyone will always have opinions. And just so you know, I do understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But, I believe that no one should be biased all just because of one bad experience.

I am not a buffet person. . . when I go out to eat, I want to sit down and be served. I can only hope the restaurant's I go to are in compliance. That's all we the public can do. As a former food service provider, I know the challenges of maintaining proper temps. It's a constant. Not 4 times a day as this mgr stated.

OMG I never been to a Golden Corral so I figured what the hell, I took a friend there for dinner. What's REALLY making me sick is that it was AT THE ONE IN THE VIDEO IN PORT RICHEY! I live 7 miles from it. It was in about 2016 so hopefully it's wasn't like in 2010 but I do know I would never go back even before watching this video today. I overheard the "manager" tell an employee "I told you you can't put vegetables where you just had meat without sanitizing it. I should of just bolted then. Luckily we didn't get sick!

Fortunately or unfortunately, the FDA doesn't have anything to do with local food inspections. All restaurants are or are supposed to be inspected by local health departments. I believe there is a bit of a buddy system or payoff that goes on. I had a friend who had a bagel shop who was always told by the health department two day in advance of the actual inspection that they were coming. That's not how it should work. But the reality is that is does work that way.
Why Golden Corral? WHY?
These temps that aren't cold enough or hot enough are b/c the restaurant is just trying to not spend the money to heat or cool properly.

And just so you know, I do understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I believe that no one should be biased all just because of one bad experience.

Golden corral is gross in general just watching the people fight for their food & devour it like they've never had a meal before. I saw a man make a meal out of 5 plates of French fries & baked beans, a girl run her fingers through the chocolate fountain & two grown over weight women almost fight because of the last piece of pork roast all in the same day. Otherwise it would be a great buffet if I had the place to myself.
Went to the bathroom here and somebody had shit their draws and left them in the sink. I'll eat at a golden corral again when I.... well actually I'd rather starve to death.

Well I live in Vegas and Golden Corral just can't compete with the casino buffets...They are opening one here and it will likely get laughed out of town.
...next time you come visit us try and get out to Sunset Station in Henderson or ANY of the Station brand of casinos....Buffets run $9.99 for dinner because they are where the locals go...I gamble a little too much but honestly I break even most of the time and end up with lots of free drinks and comped buffets that way so it's a win win.
