3 year 36,000 powertrain warranty after the tune is good, but you have 5 year 60,000 powertrain warranty on the original tune. So for most people on a 5 or 6 year loan, you might consider selling when the 36 months are up. That engine ain't gonna be cheap to replace when it blows.
Couldn’t you just revert the tune after 3/36 if you really wanted to be safe? It’d be hard/impossible for them to blame the tune for subsequent damage if you didn’t have it tuned anymore.

Why do people care about acceleration in trucks? If you want to go fast, buy a muscle car or sports car, right? Seriously, racing a truck on the street or highway is doubly irresponsible. We stopped hiring contractors with trucks modded for speed over a decade ago. We get better quality, better dependability, and less complaints.
@@nunyabidness3075Good for you. For the rest of us…we do care. Buy what you want. I’ll do the same. 0-60 is more than just for racing. It’s an indicator of the power that a truck has.
@@nunyabidness3075 Agreed. I just bought a 2024 Colorado ZR2, and while I'd like a little more power for passing (might do an intake kit, cat-back exhaust, and maybe a mild tune - as long as this doesn't negatively affect MPG TOO much), I'm plenty happy with it. It's a TRUCK, not a 'Vette.
If GM wanted to compete with this they would need to drop another engine into the Colorado as far as I am concerned. I don't think they will do this and prefer keeping the truck more competitive by being cheaper.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing. I am thinking the 4 banger turbos in the GM and Toyota's would be hard pressed to ever to get them to produce that sort of power reliably anyway.
If you want to make lot of money cheaper is the way to go. Since people like to copy other people. Look at Toyota is was top because it was cheapest most reliable truck and if other truck company can do that they will be come most bought truck
Ranger Raptor offers by far the most performance, the standard Colorado ZR2 offers the best value and Tacoma is bringing up the rear on both. It will be interesting to see how the sales numbers reflect this over time.
100% agree. GM's hud and vented seats are nice to see in the midsize market. They do seem to have the most issues of the whole bunch though. Taco is in the basement.
Given the cam phaser issues now appearing on the 3.0 engine, not sure I'd give up 2years and 14k miles of powertrain warranty for the extra power/torque.
You guys mention the toasted test. You need to put the obd reader in the trucks and data log torque while pulling that hill. I bet most of these trucks are not using anywhere near their maximum output.
As a Raptor owner, I care more about suspension than horsepower. I have a tuned eco boost with plenty of power that tune on the bronco and Ranger is plenty of juice. They don’t need to worry about what Dodge is doing as long as their suspension does what they say the trucks are for
Agree, plenty of power already. The real magic is the suspension. Over high speed washboard, it’s the best riding truck I’ve ever driven. Ford nailed suspension design and tune, IMHO.
I am 100% with Kase on wanting to see Ford to shove a Coyte in there. That would be awesome. I know with or without being factory supercharged, I for one would be ordering a new one tomorrow if they were to ever offer a V8 in the Ranger Raptor. I like my current Ranger Raptor a lot, I just miss the sweat sounds only a V8 can make.
If today's turbo motors are built well they are nowhere near maxed out. Back in the 80's the SAAB 2 liter turbo 4 was the choice for rally racing. By changing the turbo boost and oil pump they tuned them for well over 700 horse power.
It possible. That they were in the lab test engine and see how they push HP. Or they had this in there back pocket and was waiting for other competitors to see if they increase there hp with launch of raptor so they could remain king of HP
This is great as it won't void warranty... however, the rest of us can go with aftermarket tuners, OZ, MPT to name a couple, and get a performance tune, ex: 93x tune from MPT, and get much higher numbers than a 50 hourse gain...
Honestly, I wouldn’t trust most of those guys to make a truly safe tune. I ran tunes from 4 different companies on my F150 and, once I learned how to tune it myself and started really datalogging and looking closer at the tunes, they were not great. They could have made way better and safer tunes.
Best midsize truck on the market & the Colorado ZR2/Canyon AT4X are a distant 2nd place. I don’t even see the Tacoma as beating the Frontier when price is factored. The segment has changed dramatically.
It’s crazy. Great truck but sticking to my jeep gladiator 2022 that I paid 44k for when I they were letting them go for cheap. Keeping the truck but the bronco raptor is my want but dang the prices.
Depends on how heavy your right foot is. If you drive normally before and after, I bet it'll be more or less the same. Some vehicles even gain slightly more mpg after getting an aftermarket tune. Since this is a factory certified tune, it should maintain the same level of mpg, as long as its driven normally
@@skyoung419z Interesting. The Mustang GT and Dark Horse has an available Ford Performance supercharger from Whipple with warranty that makes 810 horsepower and 615 lb-ft that has pretty much the same automatic.
Should allow the Ranger Raptor to break into the high 13’s and the BRaptor to hit low 14’s in the quarter mile. It’s a gonna be a hell of a gateway drug for a real custom tune…ask me how I know 😅
Its not that interesting that the truck gains this much power. The power and torque curves on these turbo'd engines are completely artificial and controlled purely by the PCM and tuning. The stock tune requests 430 ft-lbs, and thats what the engine makes. All Ford had to do was tell the tune to request 536 ft-lbs, and the PCM handles the rest. Look at the GM 2.7L. It magically went from 348 ft-lbs to 430 ft-lbs without physical changes. It was purely in the tuning. They limited torque in the tuning and so the PCM controlled boost to limit the maximum torque it made. GM can't step up because I imagine their turbo is not large enough to supply much more power. Ford puts fairly large turbos in the F150 3.5 and this 3.0, capable of making 600+ crank HP if need be. They have a ton of overhead available to make 455 hp.
Admittedly, I've been a Tacoma fanboy since I bought my first Tacoma back in 2004. I currently own a 3rd gen and had every intention of replacing it with the 4th gen until Toyota decided slap a 4cl/hybrid in it. When I'm ready I plan on going with the RR instead.
With the ford 3.5 taking up such little engine bay space, what if ford upped the 3.5 eco boost to a 4Liter eco boost? Just a thought hmm. Bet they could produce another 100HP easy then

And dyno
@@nunyabidness3075 Agreed. I just bought a 2024 Colorado ZR2, and while I'd like a little more power for passing (might do an intake kit, cat-back exhaust, and maybe a mild tune - as long as this doesn't negatively affect MPG TOO much), I'm plenty happy with it. It's a TRUCK, not a 'Vette.
@@nunyabidness3075because it’s fun to blow away your junk muscle car with a truck
Andre and Case - maybe you should pull off the Go Fast Camper for your test before and after, and then put it back on for a before and after
Do you have any drag races videos of this ranger raptor vs other midsize and full size trucks?
Will the transmission cope with the extra torque?
I have a Ranger Raptor. What do I ask for at the dealership so they know what to give me! I want to go next week for this!
Wondering if this upgrade negatively affects the Ford extended warranty I bought through Grainger?
Don't tell them.
Can’t find one in LA for MSRP. $10k + markup. I need to get one with this tune. Can’t wait for the videoes to follow.
Does this mean premium only? I have not been able to find that info from Ford.
@@kabloosh699 yeah, that 2.7 isn't touching this at 310 hp stock.
I've been telling everyone the nano architecture is beast!!
How about reliability down the road? Extra stress on the engine
Getting ready to move to Colorado in the spring this may have sealed me getting the Ranger Raptor when we move 😊
Careful which area you move to with the increased violence in certain areas
Will it be available for European markets as well?
Did you notice it’s actually 49 state? I just looked at it on fords website, the explorer ST has a flash too but it’s only 430 hp but it’s 50 state
Good find. Yeah would kinda suck not to be able to purchase this if you lived in CA.
So TFL... what are you hearing about the 555 TQ on a 10r60 that has max 463 tq as its listed or (600nm)
Just own it under warranty, then dump it.
@waynewallace2061 this is the only correct answer!!
Hope they also increase the cooling. Separate oil and transmission coolers would be smart.
The nano has an engine oil cooler and transmission cooler already.
The current F150 3.5L and this 3.0L have enough turbo to support >600 crank hp.
Ordered a tuner for the. Ranger Raptor yesterday. I was told by ford performance that they will be shipping out in a couple days.
What site?
@@lupehn ordered through an authorized ford performance dealer. Hillbank Motor Corp. is the shop that will install the tune to maintain the warrantee.
@@lupehnI called an authorized ford performance shop to order it.
Warranty?
Honestly, I wouldn’t trust most of those guys to make a truly safe tune. I ran tunes from 4 different companies on my F150 and, once I learned how to tune it myself and started really datalogging and looking closer at the tunes, they were not great. They could have made way better and safer tunes.
Guys.. please do dyno test before and after tuning 🙏
Makes me wish I had a Ranger Raptor
Best midsize truck on the market & the Colorado ZR2/Canyon AT4X are a distant 2nd place.
I don’t even see the Tacoma as beating the Frontier when price is factored. The segment has changed dramatically.
Ford sells a tune for the 2.7 Ecoboost Bronco and it requires premium fuel. I am guessing this also requires it. Still a very cool upgrade!
Can this tune be applied to the 2024 ranger raptor from Europe and the rest of the world?
It’s crazy. Great truck but sticking to my jeep gladiator 2022 that I paid 44k for when I they were letting them go for cheap. Keeping the truck but the bronco raptor is my want but dang the prices.
Hopefully there is a tune coming for the European version. 288hp isn't enough.
Now, they need to offer it on the Powerboost.
What about Explorer ST? It’s got the same engine.
*what happens to your fuel economy with this tune ?, does it lower it by a lot?*
Yes
Depends on how heavy your right foot is. If you drive normally before and after, I bet it'll be more or less the same. Some vehicles even gain slightly more mpg after getting an aftermarket tune. Since this is a factory certified tune, it should maintain the same level of mpg, as long as its driven normally
who cares
@@HoneyBadgerFarm people who don’t want to buy more gas probably.
Who gives gives a shit
The best part of this Ford offering is the factory warranty. 536 lb-ft of torque is going to hella stress that drive train.
@@skyoung419z Interesting. The Mustang GT and Dark Horse has an available Ford Performance supercharger from Whipple with warranty that makes 810 horsepower and 615 lb-ft that has pretty much the same automatic.
The 10speed can hadle over 1000lbft
Should allow the Ranger Raptor to break into the high 13’s and the BRaptor to hit low 14’s in the quarter mile. It’s a gonna be a hell of a gateway drug for a real custom tune…ask me how I know 😅
Can't wait to see the cost of a taillight repair/replacement
I worked out a few wrinkles learning this:)
With all that horsepower, you can get to the dealer in no time to get your recalls fixed.
We are reaching the breaking point. Boom goes the repair bills.
One incentive to buying new
Toaster Test the Ranger Raptor
Always Alliterate.
It's not a heavy duty tow vehicle, why abuse it like that.
This is AWESOME!
Likely about 4 lbs of boost. The cost probably covers the extra warranty repairs.
Thats what I was thinking. The cost is less about the tune, and more about padding the warranty.
had this on my ranger.. do a cold air , charge pipes and blowoff and you at 600 pounds and 480hp
With the ford 3.5 taking up such little engine bay space, what if ford upped the 3.5 eco boost to a 4Liter eco boost? Just a thought hmm. Bet they could produce another 100HP easy then
I love that Ford offers power updates at an affordable price. It shows their dedication to their performance junky customers.
