I think my favorite part was 8:26 when you stated the bolts were "effing roasted", lol..... I just did this job yesterday on one side of my truck and I now wished I would have just bent that stupid dust shield out of the way. It would have saved me about 1.5 hrs of fighting to get those two bolts out. I did get them out, but had to use a torch and I pounded on a high dollar snap-on 9/16 socket and then used my high torque Ingersoll impact gun. Thanks for posting, I think when I do the other side, I will just bend the cover over and move on.

I just bought a '98 K2500 work truck with the ABS light lit. Trying to figure out what's exactly wrong, but had NO IDEA where the sensors were on this truck. It was a logging truck with a lot of rough service. I loved what you did, your workarounds, etc. So it's a big thumbs up. But just between us guys, if your mother watches this video, because she'd be a proud mom, don't be surprised if she kicks your duper over that language she's gonna deny you every picked up at home. Otherwise, brilliant video. Learned a lot! Keep 'em coming
I enjoyed this enough to sign in and leave a message... I don't even have a Silverado, just looking to buy one that seems to have this issue. You explained it in a way anyone could understand and had fun doing it. Thank you sir.
Is the Abs speed sensor also responsible for the speed indicator ? This no longer works on my 98 Chevy Silverado 2500. I have already changed the speedometer and the speed sensor on the gearbox.
HH kirk if the speed sensors doesn't fix it, and you want it to work till you have time to figure out what else it could be just pull you abs fuse it is in the fuse box under the hood and is a 20 amp fuse I believe you manual should tell you which one it is or you can look up a diagram online.
If you use a c clamp and squeeze the caliper a bit you can take the tension off the pads so the caliper comes off easier. Kinda like you do to put new pads but only enough to pull the caliper
Remember when using C-clamp or pry bar to press your pads in so it slides on easily that your pushing brake fluid back in the brake reservoir you don't want to over flow it.
good advice, i have mine bolts rounded too, 15mm with loose and 14mm too small... Btw.. small dvice, when you take out break pads - give between them some wooden prism
It should, but there may be some slight differences. Good luck and I hope this video helps. Please like and subscribe every little bit helps during these times. Seize the day each and everyday-Are Jay
Igot a 1990 chevy silverado has a newer dash of a 1992 , any way my odometer does not work nor gas guage might it just be that ihave to put the original dash on?
Will replacing this fix the jumping speedometer and abs light on?, I've done replaced the speed sensor on the transfer case and my speedometer is still not working right
It can but it is not always the case, sometime the speedomet is the stepper motors in the cluster, and the abs light can be a number of things. But if you have the time and can get the sensor cheap it cant hurt. On this repair it fixed the abs light. But your abs module could be bad, it could be a ground and so on and so on. Good luck. Please like and subscribe every little bit helps during these times. Seized the day each and everyday-Are Jay
+bluelude2001 if it doesnt work you can always pull the abs fuse that is under the hood, until you figure out what it is. Sometimes it can be the PCM Causing it as well. Good luck and thanks for watching Seize the day each and everyday-Are Jay
Are Jay -- 25 city stop and go miles and abs hasn't kicked on since changing the sensors. Those heat shield bolts were a pain in the ass. I heated them up and used a milwaukee 2763 impact on them. they Thanks for the video. Helped a lot.
Usually the speedometer not working is the cable that comes out of the back of your dash and through the firewall and into the transmission, it can also be the speed sensor on the transmission, good luck.
Thanks for the video. I did wont to mention that the cylinder would be easier to press back in if you took the master cylinder top off to release the presser. Just make sure to place a rag under it to keep it from leaking brake fluid all over every thing.
hey are jay i have a 97 chevy silverado z71 4x4. it drives and runs great until about maybe 30 minutes into driving my abs light comes on then when i come to a stop and start driving again it won't shift until 3500 rpms then it will kick into gear and star jumping and driving jittery, ill turn it off and after 30 minutes it will be ok again. theres no codes when connected to a scanner any help?
Danis Duarte Hey danis the sensor was not the problem on our it was the abs pcm, but we got the light off and fixed the pulsing issue at the time by pulling the abs fuse until we had time to figure it out.Seize the day each and everyday-Are Jay
Did you figure out what it was ?? I replaced both of my speed sensors an the one at the back of the trans and still it's not working. My speedo is going crazy abs light on trans shifting funny and brake pedal pulsing
You would have had an easier time getting that caliper on and off if you compressed the piston before you took the bolts out. Just sayin' You also need to clean the rust off where the sensor mounts and check the foreign materials on the pickup ring and the magnet. You can get poor performance from Chevy truck ABS just from rust jacking the sensor by a few thousandths of an inch.
Can anyone help me? i have a 1997 chevy silverado, brake peddle goes to floor, no fluid or vacuum leaks, new rotors, pads, calipers, master cylinder, shoes and lines. any suggestions
I have bled the brakes several times... a mechanic told me that he has seen many like this but couldn't find an answer, something about having a very large piston on the caliber
check the adjusters on your rear brake shoes. put your parking brake down 3 clicks then put the adjusters out till they slightly drag. see if it helps. good luck.
thanks Are Jay working on that in my 99 rado. And the dust cover fucked me and snapped off the old sensor when i tried pulling it out. So i will get new sensor cables tommorow and hopefully finish. and BEND that stupid fuckin dust cover out the way. Thanks!!!!
Ron Nilsen Hey ron how did it go after you got the sensor cables? Did it fix your problem. If not a quick fix until you figure it out is you can pull the abs fuse. I am not a real big fan of abs anyway.
***** Hey Are Jay it went great and fixed the problem. relieved to have the truck fixed and driving right again. Thanks again for the great video! and some good laughs
I don't want to disappoint you but I've been disappointed a lot of times look close enough you'll find it's made in China all the good stuff is made in China matter fact all the stuffs made in China
easyer if ya use a flat head screw driver to compress the piston a little bit BEFORE you take it off the caliper. Then it will go on easyer.. I have the ABS on in my 96 Silverado.. But my fan stopped working, and so did my four wheel drive, It will not lock in the front diff now. SO WTF is this all about.. !

Quick question how about the speed sensor on the transfer case I know how to get it off and replace it but it's stuck and won't budge
My truck makes noise when I brake abs light on ?
working on my dad's 97 k1500 this weekend. his abs is kicking on during low speed stops. hope this cures it for him.

Trying pulling your abs fuse under the hood, if that fixes it your abs module could be bad.
@@RJsGarages just tried it and the odd and faulty shifting started again after about 20 minutes of driving
Swap out your VSS.
The abs ligth is off now? Did you fix it
Danis Duarte Hey danis the sensor was not the problem on our it was the abs pcm, but we got the light off and fixed the pulsing issue at the time by pulling the abs fuse until we had time to figure it out.Seize the day each and everyday-Are Jay
Practice makes perfect.
Use a screwdriver before taking caliper bolts out to compress the piston so you could take it off without beating it with a hammer just saying.
Did you figure out what it was ?? I replaced both of my speed sensors an the one at the back of the trans and still it's not working. My speedo is going crazy abs light on trans shifting funny and brake pedal pulsing
Dyldan100 did you ever figure out the problem? My truck is doing the exact same thing.
would this work on a 2000 gmc sonoma
it should be very close to this, but probably not exactly the same procees of removal and installation.
Going through this right now with stupid dust cover/ stupid 2 seized on bolts..
is this the same process as a 99 suburban?
+Martin Cortez it should be similar, but sometimes things are slightly different on suburbans, since the frame is different.
+Are Jay
I'll give it a look, I only ask because I never messed with abs sensors
Righty tighty lefty Lucy my brother

thanks i need to change my speed sensor on my 96. this helped alot, keep it tight ladies
Steven Massey it’s the speed sensor
Might as well change your pads and rotors while you have it all torn apart.
Did enjoy your video though
Can anyone help me? i have a 1997 chevy silverado, brake peddle goes to floor, no fluid or vacuum leaks, new rotors, pads, calipers, master cylinder, shoes and lines. any suggestions
Have you tired bleeding the brakes. Even if so try it again. Sometimes there can be a lot of air caught up in the lines.

"Son, just because u have a set of tools, don't make u no mechanic."

wouldn't this work on a 95
