      It is really BAD for science and the image of sharks in general to constantly use the word "attack" ,attack, attack... The video clips here DO NOT show ANY so called attack! .... but of course when one is a utuber, one just claims "science" but really prays to money and views... shame
      and further more BAD SCIENCE: WHY show an isopod, when a copepod is discussed?

    The sharks are competing for food and there is a big moving object giving off an electrical signal near their food. What makes you think it is not a territorial attack telling the sub to get away from their food? They may not know what it is but it is moving and has an electrical field, so it appears lifelike to them, and whatever it is they don't want it getting their food.

      Because if you’ve see what a territorial attack looks like then that ain’t it. For the simple reason there was minimal damage if any and the sharks weren’t relentlessly harassing the sub until it left which territorial sharks like big bull sharks would. Usually territorial attacks are very violent because the shake sees you as a threat and wants to incapacitate you if possible or make you go away. With a human it’s pretty quick but a sub it would have gone after it relentlessly until the desired objective is achieved especially considering the sub can’t really do anything to fight back so nothing to intimidate the shark. Exploratory bite matches the behaviour much better.

  • @imgoduknow

    Forrest- I think the one theory that is being overlooked is territorialism. Instead of looking at the sharks eating faster because of each other’s presence I would believe that the presence of the sub was threatening to them completing their meal. Therefore inducing the sharks to show signs of aggression while defending their meal.

    • @dreammaker9642
      @dreammaker9642 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If so they would have dismantled that sub like there was no tomorrow. Not chew on it once or twice then move on, that looks more like exploratory bites because it didn’t aim to incapacitate the sub but just chewed on it and moved along once it realised it ain’t food. That also makes more sense because while one shark would be “attacking” the sub then the other would just eat the bait so a bit counter productive wouldn’t it?

    The best explanation I have heard is sharks are like babies. They explore the world with their mouth because they don’t have any other grasping appendages.

    • @dreammaker9642
      @dreammaker9642 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes and no, only bigger sharks that are high on the trophic level have the confidence of a baby. Majority of sharks want to stay clear of you or anything like you at any cost. Hence why you might look at them in the distance not knowing it while they have a good look at you from afar.

      It may seem like a silly question but it’s important because the actual answer may be far from what you expect. Comparing these behaviours with one your own experiences isn’t a good comparison because your existence ressembles a shark’s in no way in this context. You could of compared them to other sharks but even then sharks species are very different from one another. It’s assumptions like these that lead to terrible conclusions that miss the mark completely. This is why science is thorough, this is reality after all not some shitty movies plot.

    @dreammaker9642 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For a bit there I’d put my money on territorial behaviour as it makes a lot of sense. Shark is here feeding there is competition and it sees this big metallic thing just sitting on the way so it gets the teeth. I’ve seen countless big sharks do this to people or other sharks. As you mentioned there’s no documented hierarchy in these sharks but the could be due to lack of documentation and or data more than this behaviour not happening. But then it occurred to me that most sharks being territorial are far more relentless than this, they don’t come for a few soft bits and then get discouraged. I mean big tiger sharks will charge and harass you if you too close to their carcass which isn’t healthy for you. Then I went back to the exploratory bite, we say the shark attacked the sub but it barely chewed on it, had this been a territorial issue it may have tried cause a lot more damage than a casual chew. And this actually makes lot of sense. The sharks aren’t blind but a mile under sight isn’t very useful except when some giant metal machine comes down emitting a lot of it in what would be complete darkness so makes sense that sharks feeding there would nibble on the sub on the off chance it might also be food and then the desperate behaviour you mentioned took over.
