Very informative and professional. It's so refreshing to watch some well made videos of Ebike mechanical repairs and adjustments performed by someone who actually seems to know what they are doing. Thanks for the tutorials!
Great video. Local shop wants $35 to adjust the derailleur. Bike is brand new straight out of the box. I had to unbend the guard but I'm still getting chattering between gears and sometimes it takes a long time to shift between some of the gears. This video makes it easy to see the interaction between the different adjustments. My biggest question - can I do these adjustments with the bike upside down or does gravity play a major role in how the shifting works? The only stand I have is one of those $30 stands that hold the rear wheel up by the chainstays but it says it's only rated to support 30 pounds. I don't know if the back part of the bike will put that much weight on the stand but last thing I need is for the bike to come crashing down so I'd rather just flip it upside down if possible. This brings me back to my old BMX days almost 40 years ago. I used to be able to disassemble, reassemble, adjust, tune, etc... bikes while blindfolded. Fast forward 40 years and old age and suddenly this all feels completely foreign and new again.
That thought about practice and patience, is the best, I patiently watched your video over and over, then practiced, trying not to turn everything too much, now 1st works on the 11 tooth and 7th works on the 34 tooth. Whew!

After watching this video I was able to adjust the derailer perfectly. It goes into 1st gear and 7th gear with no issues now, however, going from 5th to 6th gear it jumps like the chain slips then falls into place. Shifting into all other gears is smooth and going from 6th to 5th is smooth. How can I fix this? is the new free wheel defective?
You can inspect the freewheel on that gear and check for any bent teeth on the cog. Also, make sure nothing is stuck in the gearing. Usually, if there is a shifting issue in the middle gears, it the cable tension that needs to be adjusted
Hi Guillermo, it may just be cable tension. You can try backing out the barrel adjuster on the derailleur a little and see if that helps. Unfortunately, there could be a few things causing this, from a bent chain link, a bent derailleur, a worn out freewheel, cracked shift housing... It's hard for me to tell without seeing your bike in person.
Shifting from high gear (small cog) to low gear(bigger cog) works fine but shifting from low gear to high gear is kind of rough and I can feel the jolt. How can I fix it?
I have to say thanks, your videos are the most educational for the 2.0. I have replaced the freewheel Adjusted the derailer, and breaks, put in the tannus Armour. and soon the hydraulic brakes. Keep the up the great work.
Excellent video, well done! I just received my new Lectric XP 2.0 and believe the derailleur is not installed correctly. I cannot shift into the highest gear because the "high" limiter screw contacts the guard's forward bar, preventing the derailleur from moving any farther. I reported the problem to Lectric and am awaiting a response. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks, David! Go ahead and bend the black metal derailleur guard out and away from the bike. Sometimes during shipping, these can get bent inward and prevent the derailleur from going all the way into the highest gear.
@@PedalWithPower I bent the guard as you suggested, and problem solved! I was also able to eliminate the chain chatter per your instructions, so double thanks!
Questrion: So, if the chain needs to drop to the lowest gear but doesn't, the barrel adjuster at the derailleur is turned CLOCKWISE to add tension to the shifter cable. And if the issue is getting the chain to move up to the lowest gear, tension to the shifter cable is added in that case by turning the barrel adjuster COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. Am I getting that right? Not being mechanically inclined, that seems counter intuitive; meaning, tension to the shifter cable can be added by turning the barrel adjusted in one direction on the one hand, and also iby turning it n the opposite direction on the other hand? Thanks!
Hi Carlos, so if you turn the barrel adjuster counter-clockwise it tensions the cable. If you turn it clockwise it "de-tensions" or loosens the cable. Your lowest gear is the biggest gear. You highest gear is the smallest gear. Tensioning the cable will help it go into the lower gears. Detensioning the cable will help it go into the higher gears. The trick is getting the tension just right, so it will go into both the lower gears and the higher gears easily. Just keep in mind, the Shimano Tourney derailleur is not very good and simply may not be able to be adjusted perfectly. It can be frustrating, patience is key. 👍
Yes, im learning that patience is key. A buddy has offered a SHIMANO 105 derailleur, looks like it's all metal, and looks new. Would that work as a replacement on my Lectrric 2.0 ? (BTW, I'm also replacing the Freewheel to the 11-34 type you sugest.) Thanks for your videos!!
Im in derailleur hell. After blowing out a tire, replacing a tire, having a chain that twisted, then getting a new chain, replacing the derailuer, (theres a huge problem with chain tension. ). The cable frayed, and the cable might not be long enough does look like the barrel is not working.
Just got a new Lectric. Love it, but the shifter says it's in gear 1 and it's not, it's in gear 2. I manually moved the chain over to gear 1 but it just went back to 2 and the shimano shifter says it's in 1. So essentially shifter 1 is really gear 2, if that makes sense. Which screw should I turn to make it be in gear 1 and shifter 1 at the same time?, Any help would be appreciated.
Yes, you have to get familiar with how the derailer works. I spent some time on it and now it works great. Just to fix that issue just turn the barrel adjuster toward the first gear a quarter turn and see if that works, if not try it again. But really you should index the whole thing and understand it, it's easy just have to get into it. You have to get the tire off the ground so you can play with it and see what is happening. Very easy to do just lean a board up to it. I can show you more if you can't get it.@@pitcapitano

Thank you so much it help me a lot
Thank you so much!
You're welcome, John 👍
Really good vid, bro
That is super helpful, thx👌👍
You got it! Thanks for watching
Very informative thank you very much
Im in derailleur hell. After blowing out a tire, replacing a tire, having a chain that twisted, then getting a new chain, replacing the derailuer, (theres a huge problem with chain tension. ). The cable frayed, and the cable might not be long enough does look like the barrel is not working.
Many many thanks .it has work perfect👍
I have a 2.0 step thru, what bike repair stand works best?? Couldn’t find it in the video. 6:02
Which way should I turn the H screw if the 7th gear is too loose and ghost pedaling?
My step through electric bike won't shift at all any ideas
Just got a new Lectric. Love it, but the shifter says it's in gear 1 and it's not, it's in gear 2. I manually moved the chain over to gear 1 but it just went back to 2 and the shimano shifter says it's in 1. So essentially shifter 1 is really gear 2, if that makes sense. Which screw should I turn to make it be in gear 1 and shifter 1 at the same time?, Any help would be appreciated.
Hi I’m having the same issue did you ever figure this out ?
Yes, you have to get familiar with how the derailer works. I spent some time on it and now it works great. Just to fix that issue just turn the barrel adjuster toward the first gear a quarter turn and see if that works, if not try it again. But really you should index the whole thing and understand it, it's easy just have to get into it. You have to get the tire off the ground so you can play with it and see what is happening. Very easy to do just lean a board up to it. I can show you more if you can't get it.@@pitcapitano
I backed my high limit 3 screw and derailleur didn't move. I also tried backing barrel out and it didn't help either. It's not bent.
Where did you get your freewheel?
Hi, excellent info. Your a pro bike wrench, or damn close two one😎👍
I'll take close 😀🙏
@@PedalWithPower I have a Park Stand also. Most amateurs won't spend that much. except the Spandex crew. They hate me 😂 I love it so. I own M&S Motorized Bicycles in Houston. Now retired. 😎
good video
Thanks
No problem, Daniel 👍
i find mine on my XP is just a little loud. shifts fine but its a little loud
Good info.
Thanks. Derailleurs are tricky and take some practice to dial in correctly.
Stuck on the small sprocket
Check the cable, make sure it didn't break
Has anyone ever told you that you kind of sound like Trey Parker
Upgrade to Shimano Acera. Well worth it
Great video. Thanks!!!
