Yeah another bumper option if your on the East coast would be Home grown lifting in KY. In the past, they’ve had some really thick 45s, but they recently came out with a new thinner 45 and they’re pretty durable plates, but they are that crumb rubber variety.

    under $2k:
Rogue slim rack (brackets =400, crossmember =500)
a barbell (any decent roughly =200/300)
    plates (fringe set 10/25/45 45 under 400)
adj bench (any rep, ironmaster whatever keep it under 500)
with the other 300 get some dumbbells or adjustable dumbbells.
this can be expanded on later, this is how i started. i then bought another slim rack for the uprights (cheaper than 2 9' individual), crossmembers, hardware, multi pull up to build out a quad rack. could also use bells to complete.

Philosophically I prefer the barbell and plates option but this challenge to me is a to create a build for someone who’s getting started and I prefer Jonathan’s basic approach if I were just getting started. I would likely grab the Crandall Fitness Adjustable Bench, then I would build slowly over time to get the BoS barbell, rack and plates.

This was a great build for 2k. Titan sure has some steals with the rack and rings. Instead of the belt I think I’d have gone for Rogue’s pull up package with a 40lb, 65lb and 95lb band for $71.

This is the way more practical set up. Most people can get real strong with just a barbell, plates and budget rack. I think the rings are a waste! Both builds look good and would work for most people. As a beginning lifter I started with adjustable dumbbells and a homemade bench as that is what I could afford, then just put the money I would have used on a gym membership into new equipment. Now have a rack, weights and several bars. Given the choice between dumbbells or a barbell and rack, I think the rack is just more fun and easier to continue to build on as you gain strength, so I have to give this one to Brimhall Barbell Club.

Wow! You both did a great job! I think what it really boils down to is what you enjoy using the most. Really good tip on Extreme Fitness Equipment. I bought my plates from them and was able to drive to their warehouse to pick them up. I would have forgone the Rogue equipment. Instead I would just use a tennis ball for the landmine on my barbell, get a rope from Target and belt at my local sporting goods or on Amazon. That would have saved some money. Also I would just have gotten maybe a set of 45s as bumpers. The rest of the plates can just be iron ones, much cheaper and with the 45s on the height will be right for your deadlifts. That set up works well as long as you don’t drop the bar when you lift. And let’s face it. NOBODY ever stops adding equipment!

I did buy some cast iron, they're great for the price but nowhere near the quality of my Rogue deep dish plates. Haven't bought any of the CAP bumpers but I might. I bought a $150 bench from amazon. Worst and only mistake I made in my budget gym. Benching is fine, but movements where I'm pulling load horizontally like cable rows or presses, the bench drags. It's a nightmare. I was completely short sighted and only thinking of benching when I bought it. You want a *heavy duty* bench. Something that weights enough and with no slack.
