    I'd put some self-amalgamating tape on those connections outside for the weather. RG58 does go through a uPVC window when closed, you just have to bend it to fit when closed at the right part of the window mind.

      Don't waste money on self amalgamating tape, use petolium jelly (Vaseline)

    I'm looking into something like this but, a bit concerned about noise due to the thinner cable.There was music playing on the video the whole time so, I couldn't hear the radio. Was the signal clean or, was there more noise due to the thinner cable? And, how many watts would that cable handle? Good video, got me thinking. That's way easier than drilling my wall or building a window passthrough. And, I can keep my screen! Thanks!

      Hi Scott, thanks for your comment. There is no change in the noise floor. Tested on few bands HF and I am still using this method to run cables at the new property we rent. What made real difference in the white noise - I made few turns of coaxial around a big ferrite clamp core. It dropped the noise on 80m with 3 S units. I am running 100W without problems.

    00hey man, can you tell me if you know any differance between cf400 cable versus lmr400?

      I haven't looked at this deep as I am using Westflex103 for my installations. It is not really flexible due being a solid core coaxial cable. Probably the only difference is just the manufacturer. Characteristics would be the same.

    How much power can you use

    Thanks for sharing that. It should do the trick for a lot of hams, across the globe. And it should fire up a few brain cells as well, and get other Amateur ops thinking of variations or even improvements. 73 de VK2DMH.

      Thanks for your comment! Yeah we should think of cheaper options - big brands have flat cables with 2 connectors, too but come at around £50/each.

      Hi, just search for RG174 PL259 UHF Male to SO239 UHF Female in Ebay as link often expires.

    What on earth are you doing putting those darn AUDIO connectors on a vhf uhf cable N Type forget PL 259 so239 darn AUDIO CONNECTORS

      A GOOD quality PL ( IF Amphenol ) is OK . We can debate on the unconsistency impedance but they aren't BF connectors at all. You are right on the N connectors ( and we can add the BNC and , if low power, also the SMA ) . What's not explained on the video is : squeezing a coaxial cable is always bad because you makes the inner "more close" to the braid (squeezing the center insulation) so the capacitance can be different .

      @hamradiotime  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my case the rubber insulation gives 2-3mm gap so it is not pressing cable so much to deform it.

      I would choose PL-259s anyday over N Connectors. And they are not Audio Cables. Where did you get that idea? SMH. Oh, I hate BNC too.
