But as someone who’s bike is my main mode of transportation and has put almost 24,000 miles on my bike in the last 11 months, I am extremely satisfied with my 2015 road glide special. The 103 ain’t fast, it don’t like sharp curves at 90 mph, but you can stretch out, listen to music and burn up 5.5 gallons of gas without stopping to wake your buttcheeks up.

      Yes if youre doing that mind of miles on a bike in a year things like hypernaked budget bikes start to struggle. A big giant vtwin with a winscreen, storage from the getgo, gps built in, big gas tank. If you can afford it its worth it. 800 miles each way sucks on a motorcycle compared to a car anyway but if irs on a bike like that it really closes the gap. Max hp doesnt matter when you flick the cruise at 81 for the next 500 miles. Its rrally nice when youre at 85 and the motor isnt begging for mercy. That bike will handle much higher milage than a smaller engine really strung out. Even you look at thr indian scout 1200 its definely plenty of power for cross country but 400 more 500 600 more what really is it? I had a kawadaki vulcan 1600 and a vulcan 2000 in the garage at the same time they were both the same year. the 2000 got better fuel economy 😂 but ut weighed a lot the 1600 weighed a lot. Best Yammie rant ever. "You don't have to live like this". Hilarious! Completely agree. If you have ridden bikes from different brands and motorcycle segments and you still love your harley, that is great. What I don't like is how many people tell me that they are the greatest bikes ever made but haven't ridden anything else. I grew up dreaming of a harley but then I rode a few of them. I will never spend my hard earned money on that when there are so many bikes that are so much better. In my opinion that is.

Went to a gas station on my FZ07 (best commuter daily IMHO) and an older guy was eyeing it. He came over and asked the size of the engine. Yeah big difference from the big Indians. the 111 and 116 are night and day different even if the power difference isn't huge, the 111 is butter smooth, the 116 is tuned to feel "fast" so runs rough and has really jerky throttle response. Most of the M8 Harleys have really smooth throttle response.

      I didn’t get a chance to test my sport glide as stock 107, dealer already had it as stage 1. I found it pulled harder than the stick low rider s, that tune is night and day, wonder if the 114 wakes up more? Doesn’t matter, it’s enough for what I use it for. I traded an FJR1300 for it, big difference is the SG doesn’t turn into a fog when I go 2 up with luggage like the FJR did.

    • @johnraconteur1723
      @johnraconteur1723 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't say that the difference was unnoticeable for me, but not noticable enough to regret my 107 Street Bob. When I rode the LRS with the 114 I noticed that making a bit more power meant that the motor turned a bit slower at any given point, like 45mph in 3rd gear. I was also able to roll up in speed a bit more before upshifts in each gear.
      But is that even just the extra inches? I don't know if the primary and final drive gear ratios are the same for the 107 and 114.

    • @Cowboy.underwater
      @Cowboy.underwater 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnraconteur1723
      The difference in engine speed is due solely to gear ratios. If you put a good intake, a proper 2 into 1 exhaust and a stage 2 torque cam on your bike (with professional tuning) you will destroy a 114, and most other non sport bikes on the road.

    Harley needs to work hard on their prices and options. Here in Europe they destroyed sporster and iron to the new sporster which is nice but terrible expensive as well, and is 0 sporster as we knew as sporster line. Sportglide should come with 114 for this price, and street bob should be even cheaper if now is the new "entry level" en europe, because the softail standard in Spain is around 15.500€ new and you must pay to homologate passenger sit and pay more stuff, which should be illegal.
    Sportglide is incredible beauty on my opinion but hd is too expensive and the bike is super heavy ( but this is what they sell...indestructible motorcycle engine.). To be honest sound is the best thing on harley... Rest is not worth it because after paying an insane ammount to new model then you have to pay maintenance and accessories terrible expensive too...
    I have to say also that rebel is much lighter than the sportgide and ligther than the softail standard ( cc are not the same), but Rebel bike looks like a toy, small and weak don't know how to say it, it's just a feeling.
    I love harley with their big engines and badboy bikes like SOA but they are rapidly losing followers, because people can't pay that huge amount of money to have new bike, and second hand is even worse here... super expensive for a 15 year old bike with 75.000km, so people is moving to other brands.

Even if I wanted to buy a 21´er Street Bob right now he couldn´t deliver any new bike because they are all sold out (his contingent is empty). I think this is the new HD strategy with Zeitz: sell less but with higher prices and he seems to turn HD in a kind of a luxury brand (ok, HD has always been expensive, at least here in Europe at least for what you get) .
      So I wouldn´t expect lower prices. Right now, they sell like hot cakes.

A lack of US style labor laws in countries of origin or countries where components are outsourced from on most if not all metric bikes also adds another huge premium.
      A made in USA bike built by American union workers is just going to cost more.

      Edit: I'd also add that many sporty/adventure bikes have more tech in them, but are much lighter and have more plastics. Tech itself isn't that expensive past R&D, and the big 4 sell so many bikes worldwide they can afford that stuff easily. HD doesn't have tech, but large amounts of metal and chrome cost money no matter how old it is lol. Plus cruiser riders probably keep their bikes longer so HD tries to get more up front. Big 4 uses sport bike profits to keep their cruisers cheaper I'd bet.
      And can't forget that HD charges for the brand, and since most buyers are older they can afford it more than younger big 4 buyers.

    I can tell you why Harley sells the most bikes... You go into a Harley dealership and they will let you ride any bike in the whole place. They have the most events, some dealers have things going on multiple times a week, some will even offer you free water or a free beer. Lots of free bike washes with girls in bikinis, lots of BBQ. Now go to your local BMW dealer, there's no way you are going to take their precious GS out for a test drive, same with Kawasaki or Honda. You only get to ride once you commit to buying. And there are no events, maybe one per year. Most people that buy a Harley are buying into a family. And I'd dare say most have never been on any non Harley bikes, those other brands seem cold at the dealer, you can't ride their bikes, almost like they are hiding something bad... And the best part about a Harley is when you upgrade the exhaust, most buy one to get the best sounding bike on the planet.

    I mean Yamm couldn’t be more filled with stereotypes and generalizations when taking about anything Harley Davidson! Acts like every single person who rides or owns or even likes Harley Davidson motorcycles is the exact same person! A big, fat, old, grumpy, drunk, red ass, leather daddy, with no real knowledge or understanding of what makes a good motorcycle? Absolutely ridiculous. He just can’t fathom the idea that not everyone loves or even likes sport bikes! Or even naked bikes. Many people have ridden and even owned many different types of motorcycles and still end up choosing and preferring a big, heavy, slow, unwieldy, Harley Davidson. Not so they can carve up the road or anything like that. But because it’s a HARLEY DAVIDSON! It’s a real, legitimate HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE, and nothing else is! It’s about the style, the comfort, the sound, the feeling, the “presence “ of having and owning and riding a Harley Davidson. I would love to have that new rebel. I think it would be an absolute blast to ride! But, if I could choose between those two bikes and I literally had to ride one or the other the rest of my life, I wouldn’t even have to think about the decision, I’m taking that big, heavy, BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, Harley Davidson sport glide every single time! Not to beat other bikes off the line or carve up the road, but to ride and enjoy, and cruise, and live with, and look bad ass on, blast down the highway at 90 mph on, and pick up groceries on, and take to the lake, and on, and on, and on! It’s just a much, much, cooler, attractive, and desirable, motorcycle than any rebel ever made. Ever!
    In the words of Jerry Palladino, the motorman, “You know nothing about riding a motorcycle!”

      They are yet again in a massive financial mess and people who work for them are most likely going to lose their jobs because of it. They rather build bikes overseas to avoid tariffs. The toughest part with the Honda is simply its size and riding position. A big person just doesn't fit on it. The power to weight ratio at the high rpms is great on the Honda, all Harley's need to get the air and exhaust opened up to really feel what they are capable of even with a big person on it. 2 very different bikes with 2 different markets. Look forward to a head to head with the Sportster S to really see what a similar size Harley can now do.

      I wanted to like the Katana, but they gave it a joke of a gas tank (3.1 gallon) and that K5 motor is thirsty AF, so no range at all. Plus they couldn't be bothered to put cruise control on a bike that could've made for a nice sporty mile muncher.

  • @m3talc0re
    @m3talc0re 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don't get me wrong, I love the Sport Glide, but it's more of a mile muncher than canyon carver. I've also never heard anyone say get a touring platform if you're over 220lbs. Also, that was a terrible launch.. You're comparing a "smaller" bagger to a naked in cruiser cosplay. They're different bikes. And that Sport Glide is very heavy to turn in and move around. Should've gotten a Street Bob or FXST for this comparison. Even better would be the new Sportster S when it's finally out. And I always find it amusing (it's pretty annoying actually) when Yammie talks about HD price being so high then starts praising shit like Ducati.. Price only matters if it's a Harley apparently.

    I own a Sport Glide and I test rode a Rebel 1100. There really is no comparison. Two completely different types of bikes. The Rebel would be a fun cruise around town, which my SG does, no problem. But you're not going to go on an all day cruise on the Rebel without being uncomfortable. The SG is comfort all the way. And the extra weight is a definite plus on the highway and at highway speeds. You still feel the bike firmly grabbing the road while it glides over it at 75+ MPH. The other major difference is the Rebel feels plasticky. It's a fun, sporty ride, but the SG all around is worth the extra money. Oh, and it helps to have more meat on your frame than Yammie.

    Yammie made an excellent point when he told cruiser riders to try different types of bikes. Indeed, sheer mass alone does not really give cruiser riders the planted advantage. I noticed this in my car while being passed by a group riding Harley bagger/dressers, & another on sport liter bikes. Those big muscled Harleys very visibly wobbled when accelerating to pass me. The crotch rockets were as steady as a rock.....& playing on that far away road.
    And this from a former Harley owner that thought there is nothing as good.
    Yeah, go try some other types of bikes.... it's good for you.😉
