I honestly found this to be one of the best, and easiet to understand tutorials I have seen on TH-cam. Although I have watched a lot of tutorials and have made several blankets, sweaters, cover ups etc I still consider myself to be in the beginner category and your explanation was so good I know I can whip out my yarn and hook and make the bolero without having to watch the tutorial 20 times or skip through sections where they are over explaining by spending 10 minutes explaining how to do a single chain stitch! thank you so much for this video 😁
Oh my gosh, thank you, I really appreciate that. I was so apprehensive about posting because I didn’t feel like it was “good enough “. Please keep me posted if you end up making it!! I really appreciate your kindness 🫶🏻
I liked these instructions better than a tedious tutorial. I'm under 5'5", short waisted, large busted, and small hipped, so I appreciated you sharing your measurements. The color of the bolero you're wearing looks stunning on you. I used that same color last winter to make a scarf. I have to say it's my favorite. You did a great job explaining.
I was totally expecting it to be two panels that were seamed at the shoulders - love that you designed it as a one piece! As far as tutorials go, I loved this. It seems like the vast majority of tutorials are on TH-cam are geared towards hand holding absolute beginners (which isn't bad, but can get redundant as you gain experience), but this felt like it was geared towards those of us who understand how crochet works and are sitting yarning with a friend about how she made her fabulous top.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the support and encouragement! I was nervous about it not being professional enough! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. ❤️❤️❤️
Sod perfectionalism. I would never make anything 😂 you are amazing! You are a pattern designer, no doubt about it. The skills of writing it up are not needed to become a designer, those will come later or never, everyone's different. I love your top, it's absolutely my style. If we were all perfect it wouldn't be a world full of inspirational people. I Love this tutorial!! You could also get the wingspan measurement by making a chain using a jumper you already love and laying it out on the floor ♡
That’s a great tip, especially if you can’t get anyone to measure you!!! Thank you so much for you encouragement and support, I appreciate that so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Shannon, that's a fantastic summer top. Thank you for the great video 📹 it was very understandable. ❤ The colours you chose to make your tops are quite lovely. The one you are wearing is very nice and looks great, plus the black one you made looks rather elegant . Excellent work 👏 👍 ❤
Just in time! I've been wanting to "build" something like this for one of my granddaughters. I found myself thinking, through your instructions, "Oh....what if I did this or that?" Understanding how to construct the basic shape gives me a place to start and then, add (or subtract) stitches to do my own (if I can)! Thanks, Shannon!
Beautiful! I bought some RHSS today in the colour "Blacklight" and am going to make this as a layering piece over a solid colour sheath dress. Thank you for a tutorial even I can follow, lol.
My wardrobe has become more functional over time, jeans, t-shirts etc. You can throw this type of top over that basic look and give it a bit of style. I also appreciate the other part of the tutorial on letting go of perfectionism, sometimes I just get in my own way. 🤔
I definitely relate to getting in my own way! But yeah, I agree you could totally change the look of a simple outfit by adding one of these tops. But I’ve also thought about doing one in a denim color yarn, i think that could be super cute too!
I like the top. Can you make a community post with a picture of the full length top so we can see how the arms work for it? I am having problems visualizing it.
This is really cute! I’m new to creating clothes but I might be able to create this. I enjoyed the way you did this tutorial. Sometimes those all white tutorials videos are overwhelming. This felt conversational. Happy you showed up in my videos you might like section.
Thank you so much for watching, commenting and for the kind encouragement! I really appreciate that, especially since I was a bit apprehensive about the tutorial. I’m so glad your paths crossed ! 😃 I hope you give this top a try, it’s definitely beginning friendly!
I got how you made it one panel but the sleeve I couldn't visualize how you got that part. Hopefully when you put the picture of the sleeve in the community notes, I can then visualize and get what you did. Still you explained everything else well. I just may try this.
I hate trying to decipher patterns. I have a decent knowledge of stitches and garment making. I really enjoyed this teaching. Edit: I think the crochet world would benefit from this type of tutorial, especially for people who have some knowledge base and don't need a stitch by stitch video. You might have found an untapped niche.
Great job! I think I would write that pattern line that you sort of struggled with writing as... Ch 4, turn, DC into the top of the DC from the previous row. Does that make sense? 🎉🎉 Thanks for being encouraging, as I struggle with perfectionism and have torn out so so so many rows on the summer top I've started (my first top ever) trying to keep my tension even or fix a stitch, or fix a stitch count! Ugh, I must remind myself as Missouri Star Quilt co. Says... Done is better than perfect!
The top is very pretty and I love it been so airy. I making a simple shrug using all.double crochet but I messed up on my tension or something so its not very airy. Thank you for this projevt.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting! I think this one is fairly hard to mess up! Please keep me posted if you do make one, I’d love to see it! I’ve totally had that happen in the past too because my tension is pretty tight. Then my project turns out stiff instead of drapey. 🤷🏻♀️😂
I’m a bit confused about how you created the sleeves. You said just to seam up the side under the arm home, but how does that lead to such a structured sleeve? When I do that I just get a weird arm hole at the end of my arm with a full wing of fabric under it. I’d like a more structured sleeve like you have.
When you fold the shape in half and sew from each side in toward the waist, it will create the sleeves. We might actually be doing it the same way. I’m wondering if mine looks more structured just because of it being a stiffer yarn?
Perfection gets in the way of progress... SHARE ALL THE PROJECTS!!!!
Thank you my Friend!!!
You are amazing at giving kind pep talks that make me feel good about myself and my crochet!
Awww thank you Katie! 🥰
I love your videos! You don’t straitline the “Chats” and it feels like a conversation!
Thank you so much! And thanks for the feedback 😃

Thanks! I get hung up by perfectionism all the time! I have done for 60+ years! I have never learned how to escape it!
It’s so tough to escape it!!! You’re not alone!
