      I would've been glad to have taken him to a tour. My kokum (grandmother) is chief so I would've gotten some help from her. He went to a silly moniyaw powwow I noticed that quickly something was off. It would've been cooler if he went up North with me. I could show him the ropes. I've always wanted to show somebody from a different background my culture, it's a passion that drives me to succeed.
      Btw my family are workers and have made their own success over the years they all graduated or are on their way to graduate high school then attend further schooling. I like to be friends with the ambitious type so I got alot of friends who are actually going to Universities across Alberta and even going as far as to moving to the States for school. Education has become a bigger deal to many of us, and the thing i love so much about this is how they all do it because they want to give back to the community in anyway they can. I'm still deciding on whether i go to school further up North, West or in New Mexico with some friends. We aren't lazy people, you just have no connection with us at all and deep down you really fear us. Pansy.

      Native to American continent = Native American lol

    • @trisix99
      @trisix99 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Lee Francis the word “Native” comes from the old Latin word for birth, used millennia before Europeans even knew that native Americans existed. The reason they’re called Native American is not because of their “nationality” or because of citizenship to the United States of America, but because they are natives to or “born to” the continent we call America. Also, Hawaii is not part of the American continent.... 😂 its a volcanic island... still, Native American is a broad term that includes specific tribes, whether they’re native Alaskans or native to the Mohave desert, etc. Finally, the word “indigenous” has become synonymous with “native” in various languages.

      @Liam W, as a student of history and one who is for ever on the quest of learning history, my suggestion is this. If you are Chilcotin, interview your elders get your stories on video, your culture and your language teach your young. As a African American, i understand how hard it is to piece together your personal history and culture, but you have the advantage that most African Americans dont have. Your elders were not killed and so your culture, language and history is still with you, record it, pass it down.

I remember when I was a kid there were a couple of Native Americans that came to my country town in Western Australia and exchanged gifts with our elders. We gave them boomerangs and spears my grandfather and father made and they gave us hand made rugs. Honestly it was quite amazing looking back at it now.

      Diego Trevino I think to expand new lands. Like the Aztecs migrated from the north, but in today’s age, it’s mostly for financial reasons.. Still can’t deny natives from the north and south are closely related. Not purely Spanish blood. Also lots of natives in the south, only they don’t embrace a lot of their native roots because of strong Spanish influence.

I think the best name today for the original nations known as tribes is the Canadian term First Nations, the first nations here which is an indisputable claim. The first nations still live and their fathers and mothers still live in their memories, despite all the efforts to wipe them out. Long may they live.

      Spencer Allen you sir are an idiot. Majority of Mexico is of Native origin, the Spaniards were less accepting with their inquisition tactics and didn't even think of allowing reservations to exist. Either you accepted Christ and spoke Spanish or got killed or the last option you were turned into a slave until you died. Just like here in the U.S., Mexico had many native nations within its territories the most famous were the Aztecs and Maya but in-between there were many tribes that were independent and smaller. Some of the few native speakers left today were only saved because of their tough-to-reach locations or because their traditions were passed down in secret.

    Native American's should not called Indian's, Christopher Columbus messed up and thought he landed in India. Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian explorer who we named America after and that is why Native American's do not like being called American's. But it is a lot more intelligent to call them Native American's than Indians.

    I been to several Pow Wow’s in my region and we have many small tribes here that come together. They are lots of fun and very educational. Just come respectfully and don’t take pictures or video without permission because some of the dances or outfits are considered sacred. Other than that, bring a comfy seat, eat some fry bread and enjoy the crafts, dancing and chanting!

    I thought the Atlatl was from ancient Mexico from the Aztecs

    • @agargoyle12345
      @agargoyle12345 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's from all over the place, the Aztecs were just the ones that reintroduced it to Westerners. Kind of like how tattooing used to be all over the lighter skinned populations of the world, then disappeared in Europe, so they took a Polynesian loanword to describe it.

    Do all natives have same traditions like these drums and feathers?

    • @jiggidy6919
      @jiggidy6919 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fortnite and News Across the U.S. tribes have certain traditions. For example, I am from Northern Wisconsin. My people are woodland. Our regalia consists of floral designs. We lived in wigwams, not tipis. Now look at the Sioux in the dakotas. They had the feather headdress, they lived in tipis because they moved with the buffalo. Tipis were easy to take down an move with them. Now let’s go out west, an example for something different is there moccasins an the way there designed. They have soles to protect there feet, from the hot sands etc etc. Native Americans traditions vary depending on where you are.

      not exactly it was invented in other places ..it was used also in europe and russia..you can find carved ones made of reindeer antler and dating back up to 20000 years ago..it's like bows and arrows they popped up all over the place at different times..the only real odd one out is the boomerang which came back unlike egyptian throwing sticks for example

      Carlo Magno Aztecs is todays term is Hispanic..Mexicas conquered tribes as they migrated to Tenochitlan. Comanche,Yaqui,Mescalero, Toltec, Chichimeca and many more. Also descendants of North American Indians as we have roots in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

      Nope!
      The Hiakim (not "Yaquis") were never conquered! Not by the Aztec, not by the Spaniards, and not by the Mexicans. Not even deportation to the Philippines, the Yucatan, and abandonment in a stupid war in Morocco managed to get rid of us!

      wrong it's because spear throwers and their original names went out of use thousands of years ago..also language has changed a lot in europe since this technology was commonplace..there are plenty of examples of spear throwers carved from reindeer antlers or mammoth tusk dating back to prehistory that have been found in france and other parts of europe

    The spear throwers were also found in burials in iceage Europe so as people traveled and traded with other people the ice age ancient natives brought the spear throwers with them across the ice bridge.
