  • Cresting your arrows is a great way to customize them and make them your own. So many designs and colors are yours for the choosing. Easy build with a sewing machine motor, dimmer switch, and a few pieces of scrap wood. Testors acrylic paints were used for the cresting.

Great Video. I started doing my a year ago. You are right in that it is just about the look. But, it's got to look good to be good.

Hi Scott, I wish this video was out when I started doing this a few years ago.
Because I didn't have a reference, I went to the only experts I could think of in my local area, a shop which specialised in Warhammer.
after explaining the crazy hobbie I was trying to get into, I found that I wasn't the first person to ask them for info.
The end result is so good, that I've often been asked where I get my wraps.
    1. use a surface primer.
I found the rustoleum grey/matt white works well. grey is better if using a lot of white, easily see where you put your first coat.
    2. use good quality hobby paints with the appropriate thinner
I was pointed in the direction of MrColor series of paints (from Japan).
Combined with the thinner, every layer dries like glass
    3. with the protective clear coating, wait a few days before applying.
the longer, the better. I generally wait at least 4 days before applying the clear coat. This is the secret to avoiding bubbles/smudges.
I use two brushes, both camel hair. one is flat and around 1/4 inch wide while the other is a thin point.
I hardly ever use the point since you can angle the flat brush and make very fine pinstripes with it.
I initially made my own cresting jig, but eventually caved in and bought a spinrite.
cost quite a bit, especially since he didn't initially ship to Australia, but he obliged me, installed an international working motor (50/60hz @ 110-220v)
    haven't regretted it since.

Man, thanks for the great advice! I have a love hate relationship with the brushes I have used. They work, but not to my liking. I'll definitely take your advice on those, and the paints as well. Matter of fact I'm starting the process of tuning some new arrows for my longbow and sounds to me like a great excuse to try these tips out to finish my new arrows. Thank you so much for a great comment. Have a great evening my friend! Best regards

Hi. Very nice overall. I would recommend you to try using angular brush and try the revel paints. They give more clean finish with less coat.
    Greetings

How long does painted cresting last

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for the question. I am not sure how long it will last, but I have not had any issues with what I have done. I think it really depends on how well you are able to coat the cresting. I wish I had a better answer for you. You could probably make it last the life of the arrow with a thin coat of some sort of sealer.
Again, sorry I couldn’t offer better insight into this. I appreciate your time. Have a great evening. Best regards
