1994, her TRUE prime. A mixture of both Music Box power and resonance and Daydream tone and control. Therefore, Merry Christmas is her true vocal prime in terms of Albums. ❤️
1995 mais precisamente! Ela ainda tinha problemas com os upperbelts em 1994 ao vivo mas tinha a consistência da music box, em 1995 beltava F5 como respirar sem esforço algum, sua ressonância era imbatível tbm
I love mc era vocally, but my fave era vocally is debut and emotions, she had that deep tone much soul, much r&b, amazing whistles, incredible low notes, powerful mixed voice and belts. love her
+♫ SLS music ♫ She was ashamed on how she looked back then especially around 1990-1991, that's the reason why she replaced the videos during that time with live performances for the #1's DVD release.
Wee Peng No, she doesn't hate her old looks. She just hates Someday, Love Takes Time and I Don't Wanna Cry music videos because she thinks the results are disappointing. That's why she started to direct her own music video during Daydream era.
People keep talking about her avoiding the higher notes here during the bridge as if it's a bad thing.. The way in which she dodged the high notes is amazing, she created new runs that flow smooh as fuck. To this day I have yet to see another artist improvise as much as she does and has in the past. Even now she still plays around with the melodies of her songs.
Beyloved95 But a some of Whitney improvised vocals were off or really don’t fit the song as Mariah’s ones. Mariah musicality and artistry in creating melodies on vocal lines is unmatched.
I usually freak out for the perfection of the Eb5's or E5's in the bridge, but this time at 2:45 I was about to cry. It's not always about hitting the note, cause if you dodge it that way it gets even better. If she'd sing that "Just hold on" like that nowadays it'd be way better, cause it sounds divine. F*** that she was sick here, this is one of my absolute favourite performances of this song.
2:53 - That was an amazing B4. Round, resonant and vibrant! Mariah is definitely an underrated middle-belter. She's a vocal miracle and something that no one will ever come close.
people going on about her not hitting the high notes on the bridge like they were on the studio record. hello! the way she changed and sang the bridge here is still so powerful, it resonates, like almost thundering. nobody else in the world alive today (or who's ever lived - me being a lamb talking) can sing and produce that sound.
Naw. It's simple. Back in the 90s, Vocal Acrobats like Mariah Carey and Tevin Campbell were recording and signing at incredibly high notes. With middle age, signing live that high can risk strain, to prevent that, Mariah and even Tevin sing the old tunes live at lower registers.
Why do people keep saying she had a cold? Almost every video I watch of Mariah singing, there's always someone who says she has a cold. How do you know? Were you there that day and she told you herself she had one? Please. In no way, shape or form does she sound like she had a cold in this video. She killed it.
I'm not saying she didn't slay...she certainly did in this performance. I'm just saying people always seem to think she has a cold when she's not up to her usual standards, and that's not true.
Well cold or not, she was definitely not her best here. So one can only assume that she was a little under the weather. Still a very good performance though from the Songbird Supreme.
A beautiful performance. She adapted very well in order to avoid hitting the high notes; it worked very well and shows her versatility at this period. Enjoyed this very much.
Dan O'Connor It was an intentional vocal break, a particular vocal technique, it wasn't un unsupposed crack. She's the mother of vocal breaks, there are many also in the studio version than many of her songs. And hers are the ones that sound the best, they add so much soul😍😍😍
victor guzman Yeah....it was pretty fuckin awesome...lol! Keep in mind that there were many more than just these two as well. Take a look at some of Tevin campbells and luther vandross' songs
+victor guzman ariana can sing, and so can many other singers of this generation, like beyonce, christina aguilera, tori kelly, jessie j, jennifer hudson, etc.
It’s incredible to see the change in her voice in just a year. Hero was recorded in 1993. Her voice in 1993 is very timbre, immaculate voice, very soulful. But in 1994 it was a mixed of smooth, very girly and daydream.
Sometimes Mariah dodges high notes, but you simply cannot criticize her for doing it on this particular performance and song. Specially when she had sung the high parts before, MANY times, and even added a couple more high notes to it.
She has been one of my favorites female voices in my life d it is one of few artists that not because of her voice range she falls into exaggeration i love her
imagine being spend nights long in studio for writing and recording ur music while having a fragile body that was so easily to get cold... and still sang this amazing live. her technique was so polished
This is my favorite era from Mariah besides Daydream. Her singing was effortless and fluid in this era. I have never watched this performance, so I thank you for sharing. :)
glad i grow up in 90's.. we have the queen mariah.. miss celine dion.. jewel.. sheryl crow.. alanise morisette.. sarah mclachlan.. shania twain.. martina mcbride.. faith hill.. leann rimes.. and the times with boy and girl band like Backstreet Boys.. N'sync.. spice girl.. and actually in the late of 90's we got christina aguilera and destinys child.. 90's is the generation of new Pop when we back listen to the music in this era we can feel so 90's..
The Serial Whitney Houston has a more beautiful voice but Mariah has her own voice she is the only singer who can sing like that and it makes her voice beautiful
Whitney Houston is number one. Not doubt about that! Whitney Is the Most Awarded Singer and for that, she is cited in the Guinness book of world records for the most popular / awarded female artist of all time. She has won MORE than 600 awards! Unbelievable, isn’t it? Combining all of her awards won, 415 were bigger awards such as NAACP Image awards, Emmys, Grammys, Billboard music awards, World music awards, American music awards, Rolling Stone music awards, MTV video music awards, Blockbuster entertainment awards, MTV Europe Music awards, BET awards, Women’s World awards, International Icon awards( Grammy hall of fame, etc., etc., etc., etc.,),NARM bestseller awards, Brit awards, American black achievement awards, Goldener RI pinguin awards Germany, Bravo Otto awards Germany, Soul train music awards, etc. etc. etc. etc. You cannot believe how the list goes on and on and on!!!! She’s better than Mariah Carey. The music industry surely proved it by giving her all of these awards! More than 600!!! Yes, I said MORE than 600. This says it all !
I know that not a lot of ppl will agree with me but I think 1994 is her best year vocally, not 1996. 94 is the perfect year for her tone and voice because she just got over her nasally debut years (1990-93).
