I'll never forget when I driving home at night during a tough time in my life. I became stuck in a vortex of deeply negative and suicidal thoughts. I wanted to crash my car and end it. Meanwhile, I was tuning out the radio this entire time, until suddenly this song came on. I hung on to every word. I also put a little more effort to get home safely. When I arrived home, I broke down and listened to the rest of it before going in the house. This moment was a miracle, and it brought me closer to God. I felt like something, someone sent this song in my darkest moment as an answer. And I'm so thankful this exists.

As a victim of child molestation and sexual abuse from the age of 5, I grew up feeling like I was trash. I was lost and hurt with no one to tell my story. There were times that I would have welcomed the thought to end my life but "Hero" became an anchor for me. Mariah spoke to me through this song in my adolescent years, and I realized that I am not trash but capable of doing great things if I could just find my way to my core. The whole purpose of a performance like this is to fool the average viewer (no offence); however, to most trained audio professionals, it would be clear as day that she's miming to a prerecorded track. For example, at 3:24, she lifts her head away from the dynamic mic as part of the performance, yet there’s no drop in volume or change in proximity effect when she lowers it again - a classic sign of a prerecorded track. Then, immediately after, at 3:30, she drops her head, looking down at her feet, and again, there’s no change in mic response. They’ve swapped certain parts with alternate studio takes to make it seem like she’s singing live, but it’s mostly the same compared to the official release.

I have never heard this song before and this is my first time hearing it. I’m in tears right now listening to this song because these were the words that I never knew I needed to hear. I’ve given up on a lot of stuff, hope being one of them. Life has not been the best lately, and this just gave me a new perspective on it. Edit: Coming back to this song and this comment, I see that in a year , my life has changed greatly. I still cry when I hear this song , but I cry tears of joy. A year ago, everything was so dark in my world. Today, I start my freshman year in high school soon and I’ve never been happier. There is a god, and hope does exist. I'll never forget when I driving home at night during a tough time in my life. I became stuck in a vortex of deeply negative and suicidal thoughts. I wanted to crash my car and end it. Meanwhile, I was tuning out the radio this entire time, until suddenly this song came on. I hung on to every word. I also put a little more effort to get home safely. When I arrived home, I broke down and listened to the rest of it before going in the house. This moment was a miracle, and it brought me closer to God. I felt like something, someone sent this song in my darkest moment as an answer. And I'm so thankful this exists.

As a victim of child molestation and sexual abuse from the age of 5, I grew up feeling like I was trash. I was lost and hurt with no one to tell my story. This song helped me to survive my childhood, the abuse from my parents. I was 11, when this song was released. This song made me keep going through all the abuse and neglect. I had no support. I have never heard this song before and this is my first time hearing it. I’m in tears right now listening to this song because these were the words that I never knew I needed to hear. I’ve given up on a lot of stuff, hope being one of them. Life has not been the best lately, and this just gave me a new perspective on it.
Edit: Coming back to this song and this comment, I see that in a year , my life has changed greatly. I still cry when I hear this song , but I cry tears of joy. A year ago, everything was so dark in my world. Today, I start my freshman year in high school soon and I’ve never been happier. There is a god, and hope does exist. I used to say “hope” was just a four letter word filled with disappointment, but I no longer think of it that way.
