Thanks for posting the video. I have the 1.3 version with the #2 cap and was curious about what the differences are between the two. Your videos are a goldmine of comparative information since you typically have the guns with a variety of setups. Thank you as always for doing what you do. You deserve way more views and subscribers than you currently have. I hope the algorithm gives your channel the attention and traffic it deserves.
Hi David, Thank you, I genuinely enjoy making the videos. It's always nice to have more views/subscribers, but it's not everything. I really like the setup you and I have in 1.3, it really works well particularly for clear coat, this setup is quite different and a good alternative for some people depending where they are as price varies quite widely it would appear. Thanks for the kind words David, very much appreciated 👍
Hi Pete, nice video, and a nice little gun I bet it’s popular for smart repairs and beginners, seems to do a great job, I made that mistake buying a 1.0 tip set for my ANI, I thought anything bigger I wouldn’t be able to handle, I was wrong fortunately. Nice colour and finish on this one mate. Cheers.
Hi Steve, Yes, a good little gun, but It's getting a little expensive in the UK, although not in mainland Europe. I'm told. I have the 1.3 with a different cap, which is completely different from the setup in this video. It's a little cannon and great for clearcoat, this one is much more civilised and ideal for smaller projects, Cheers Steve 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 Sounds good, not the price though sadly, everything is getting so expensive now. I will keep this gun in mind if I ever want an upgrade. Cheers.
Hi Walter, I'm jealous 😀, I keep a look out for tip sets on Ebay, but not much about. They will do eventually though so I'll grab one when I can, thanks mate 👍
Hello, how would this compare to a AZ3 HTE2 with a 1.0? I already have an AZ3 HTE2 with 1.3 tip which IMO does an overall good job with bases and clears on medium sizes stuff, however it don't like how it performs (the atomization) on really small stuff (spot repairs). I could get an AZ3 HTE2 1.0 for 100€ shipped, an AZ4 1.0 for about 170€ shipped. Also there's be the lph-80 1.0 for +300€ but it would have to be REALLY worth the difference to stretch the budget that much. What should I choose?
Hi Buddy, I'm not a fan of the AZ3, I would say an AZ4 1.0 would be the thing to go for for smart repairs. It has good fine atomisation that you need when doing smaller repairs and blending. The LPH80 is a little gem of a gun but not worth twice the money
Nice video again about a smaller gun/cup/nozzle combination. This is exactly why this one is very suited for scalemodelling and less demanding on the compressor. In the Netherlands it still retails for €149,-, same as one year ago, but they are made in Italy, taxes after Brexit may vary the price more in the UK. Despite the comparisment you made with the LPH80 and the ProLite, those guns are more then twice the price, for the incidental sprayer to much to handle in my opinion.
Hi William, €149 is a very good price and equivalent to what I paid in the UK 3 or 4 years ago that I purchased this. It is a well-made gun, especially at that price, and is a good performer. It's quite big for a mini gun, which some won't like, appreciate the comments, cheers 👍
Hi Pete, I remember when I was having problems with this gun and just couldn't get it to spray properly so I put it away then I got chatting to you about it only to find I was using the wrong air pressure, it goes to show that us blokes need to read the manual (RTFM!!) as we never do until we get problems but by then it's probably lost in a drawer somewhere😁🤣 Anyway mate the AZ4 did a great job on the base and clear, it took a few more passes to get full coverage but at the end of the day it's a mini gun so it will be slow and IMO did just as good a job on the finish as the SRI or the DV1S, I must dig mine out again🤔thanks Pete👍
Hi John, Yes, I agree, we should read the instructions more, funny, because if your using a new product your much more likely to read the TDS so why I wonder don't we do the same with new equipment😂 What setup is yours, mate? I think you have told me, but I've forgotten as I'm a man of a certain age 🤣 Cheers John 👍
Yeah I never thought of that, I always read the TDS for all my paints hell I even have a folder on my PC with loads of them in there but hardly any spray gun manuals🙄😆 My AZ4 is the 1.2 with the AZ4 1 aircap, of course I didn't have to go to my workshop and check it🤥😁 I got the bluish white 3 stage basecoat down this morning mate and to me it's an off white with a blue tint when the light hits it, looks nice so far but should be better when I do the clearcoat in the morning👍
Quite nice in a 1.2, I would think, I'll have to try the 1.3 with the AZ4 1 cap. When you said white with a blue tint I first thought don't think it will work, but when you said it and gave me the code I looked it up, didn't find lots on it but what I did find suggested it would look good if the light was good, hence my comment it's was supposed to be bright tomorrow meaning today. I'll look forward to seeing it hopefully tomorrow 👍
Hi Pete, I was very surprised at how well it laid down the clear. After looking at the base coat application. But me thinks you were holding back and trying to colour it in very gently. Cannot knock that gun, even though I have never been a fan of Air Gunza. No, that is not Eliteism on my part, just never thought they made their guns to Iwata standards. AND thus kept well away from them. However, after all that dribble, if I did not have the number of guns which I have, and needed a gun to do everything, this would.be the one that I would consider. Anyway, keep churning out the great video content!!!
Hi Niam, I was surprised as well with the clear, I thought it would be hard work as it's not putting out loads of material.but it did well. Think I said this was quite an old video, and it was me using the gun a few times lately in 1.0 with the low pressure cap that made me dig it out and voice it as it's a very good little gun. It seems in the UK we are being ripped off by the price of these as some people in Euro countries say these list at 149 euro, even with a poor pound and no discount that makes them 130 pounds which is much cheaper than here these days so represents good value. You're right with regards to the basecoat ,I use solvent most of the time, so when going over older paint, I take it easy with the base to minimise a chance of a reaction, cheers mate 👍
Hi Milan, the 100ml cup is this one, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124770164310?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ECrBiOqaRCW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=v5EZyL9iR9-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY 👍
Hi Mikael, with this gun, yes, I run it at 1 bar, which is actually the pressure recommended. I often run guns for base coats at a lower pressure, but not this one. Cheers 👍
Hi Oscar, It can be the case, but it's not always the rule. It's a combination of the cap and the tip size, so I have found that a smaller tip with the same cap can atomise better than a larger tip, although it's not always the case. I think it's down to the same amount of air, which is dictated by the cap, having less material to atomise, the material being dictated via the tip. There are variables, of course. Sometimes, the bigger tip will have a different air hole arrangement, but typically, they don't . You also get the scenario where a bigger tip, same cap, can take more pressure so can flow more material and atomise as well with a slightly higher pressure, that higher pressure may over atomise the same setup with a smaller tip, makes the application a little dry
One more question. The gun should be at 1,0 bar, but if the paint manufacturer recommends 2.5 bar? I guess I should have 1.0 bar, but what does this do to the paint and atomization?
Hi Mikael, The paint manufacturer will generalise, it's better, when it comes to pressure to pay more attention to the spray gun manufacturers. This gun, for example, at anything over 1.5 to 1.6 bar starts to pulse as the pressure is too high, stick to 1 bar, and its great 👍
Is 1,3 better for clearcoat and should I buy one? I got the AZ4 1,0. My compressor is a FATMAX 1500 W, 50 L tank, airflow 165 l/min, afraid it's too small for AZ4 1.3.
It depends on what you are spraying. The 1.3 with the AZ4 2 cap is much faster for clearcoat as it puts out much more material. It also uses much more air, so if you have a fair amount to do, your compressor won't keep up
Hello Pete, Thanks for all your highly informative and appreciated content. This gun is around €150 in the Netherlands atm. I just bought the 1.2 as a do it all gun for smaller projects, this should use around 105 litre/minute of air. Question for you; when I'm using it like you for say a motorcycle tank and especially while applying clear coat, do you think it's a problem if one continues with spraying while the compressor kicks in? Because i only have a small 50L, 2hp net 180-ish l/m generating compressor. So on paper, it should be able to keep up easily. But besides keeping up, from your experience with paint spraying, will there still likely be an effect in my clear coat / spraying output because of the compressor needing air? And thus, should i try to avoid spraying to the point of refilling , or will it be OK? Maybe i have to lower the adjustable pressure at how many bar it kicks in too. It's now starting up at 5, and going up to 7. I do also have an even smaller 24L and could quickly swap the gun over and over between compressors if you think that's better. And another question, how much time do you generally wait between: base vs. first clear, and first vs. 2nd clear coat? This might depend on all sorts of things, but roughly speaking? Thanks again for your useful videos and comments they are a true blessing for starters like me!!
Hi buddy, another chap from Holland was saying this gun is only €149 which is great value. It is no problem using the gun whilst the compressor is running. It's all about keeping a steady feed pressure to your gun. That's where a diaphragm regulator comes in handy as it keeps the pressure the same even when your compressor is high or low. It's depends on the conditions, but if we say at 20c normal basecoat should be ready for clear in 15 minutes or so, you don't want to leave it more than a few hours as the basecoat becomes less receptive to the clear so adhesion isn't so good, as long as the base is dull and dry to the touch you should be ok, temperature has a lot to do with it but you get similar weather in Holland to us so painting in an ideal 25c will be a luxury, good to hear you enjoy the videos, I genuinely enjoy making them 👍
