    I cut the soft part of the filler hose to just a couple inches and re- clamped the filler spout (takes about 5 minutes). Now I can use the 5 qt. Jugs to refill from inside the dog house - quick & easy.

      I did the same thing. Removing the dog house only takes a minute and also gives me a chance to give the top side of the engine a good look/inspection. Also, my 7.3 takes 8 quarts of 5W30.

    I lay a 2 foot long piece of aluminum foil lengthwise over the I beam and then remove and discard it after I put the oil plug back in. No mess. I also puncture the bottom of the old filter with a sheet rock nail to let it drain while I take a break. On filling I use small mouth oil bottles. No spillage. Also I put a 2 inch diameter white styrofoam doughnut over the end of the oil filler tube so I can always see where to aim the dipstick.

    I think I found an easy way too. I use a paint roller pan with a hole in the end of it. Also I use a pump from harbor freight for 5 gallon cans to pump the oil from 5qt bottles. The roller pan also works for the oil filter. Just make sure your catch pan under the roller pan is centered. My first mistake. The metal roller pan has feet that catch perfectly on the torsion bar to hold it in place so it won't fall down on you. Hope this helps someone. See the pictures.

    Good Video! SOLD! I have just ordered the Fumoto. I noticed you tested the transmission fluid when the motor was not running. I thought it had to be up to normal operating temperature with the motor running. One other small hack... I taped up the transmission dipstick hole, then cut a 4 inch diameter circle out of paper. I stuck the paper over the pipe, and sprayed bright yellow paint around the dipstick. Now it is MUCH easier to see.

      @GetGonewithUS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Not sure what you are talking about with the tranny, Roger. I showed where the transmission dipstick was, but never pulled it out. I only pulled out the oil dipstick. Happy Trails!

    Using a fluid transfer pump to refill is the only thing I would say will improve your process.
    Harbor freight has one that works well with the 5-qt jug and if you get it above the fill spout will actually create a siphon and go in after priming with a couple of pumps.

    I have just two comments here. First is the plastic bag choice. The best plastic bags for this is the ones you find in the produce section of the supermarket. They are good quality, don't leak, and are very pliable. After you brake the oil filter loose, wrap a folded paper towel around the top and put a rubber band around it to hold it in place. Then place the produce bag over the filter and put another rubber band around that. It will make life much easier. Second, the oil filler tube is not too small, the wide mouth oil bottle is too large. You can still find oil in bottles with the small mouth. Get some and don't throw the bottles away. Buy your oil in the five quart size at Walmart. It's a lot cheaper, and refill the small mouth oil bottles. You won't need that oil filling contraption you made and it's a lot easier.

    Be careful when you pull the oil filter off..recheck the torque on the oil cooler tube. Mine was loose and caused a leak between the cooler and the block. Loosening the filter may loosen the cooler as well. (Causing a cancelled trip)

    One note, always check the oil after running the motor for 10 min. ? Recheck oil, the filter may up to one quart of oil. You may need to top it off.

    We tried the Fumoto oil thing and it was so slow even after warming up the oil....hubby went back to old fashion way because it would take forever to drain...did he do something wrong?

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it took 'forever' to drain, then there maybe a clog in the Fumoto or the drain wasn't open all the way. That would be our guess. Draining the oil would be a bit slower with the Fumoto vs removing the drain plug completely, but not by much. The real time saving is being able to drain it directly into a container. With other methods the oil spills all over the place and is a mess to clean up. At least on our rig it was.

    @lloydstrayer4139 ปีที่แล้ว

    You don't have to put new oil in the filter, it's a good way to get dirt in the engine.just lube the filter gasket and the engine already has oil on the moving parts inside the engine block.

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  ปีที่แล้ว

      No you do not have to put oil in the filter but I do it for the assurance that there is no metal on metal when starting the engine. New filter, new oil and a cleaning oil filter housing. I don't see how you would get dirt in the engine. I have been doing oil changes for almost 50 years, on all sorts of different vehicles and have never had a problem because dirt got in the engine from an oil change. Thanks for your comment
