I just "discovered" this song and imho it is one of the best songs ever done by Iron Butterfly. It sounds so great on a good stereo and I love Erik Brann's voice on this song. Wish more people could hear it.

@@willewis6778 Did KSHE ever play Belda Beast by Iron Butterfly? I never heard it when I lived in the St. Louis area for eight years in the 70s and early 80s.
I heard it while driving around Columbia, MO late one night in 1979 on KCOU. Cant remember if that was MIZZOU's station or Stephens College. I fell in love with it and Erik's voice. I called the radio station and they told me it was 'Scorching Beauty' by Iron Butterfly. I found the album entitled 'Scorching Beauty' but it wasnt on that album! I've looked for this song ever since then. Could not find it anywhere, until now. Heavy emotions flood back into my mind. One of their best songs, in my opinion. ❤
KCOU was the university's station. KSHE in St. Louis played Scorching Beauty when it first came out three or so years earlier, and I believe it still does on occasion although I no longer live in the area. The song is actually on Sun and Steel album because--as the story goes--the Iron Butterfly keyboard player at the time could not play the song well enough to include on the album of the same name, "Scorching Beauty".

I saw Iron Butterfly right after Inagoddadavita came out. First year of the Mississippi River Festival 1969 or 1970. It was my first concert. I was 10 years old. Been hooked ever since!
@HQ "A beautiful song from a bland album" Perfectly put! How did this wonderful jewel end up on that overall forgetful album? Thank you so much for posting this pearl!
Right/ Wrong has that killer part! Love the title track! The album was a big step up for them from their previous album of unknown sounds. Why is it so hard to write killer tunes for some?
I actually liked this album. Scorching Beauty, Scion, and the title song, I thought were really good. I couldn't ever get into their previous album called Scorching Beauty.
Eric Braun wrote some great songs, just not enough on his own to fill an album. His earlier contributions to Iron Butterfly in the late 60s were very, very good (Termination and Belda Beast specifically). But without Doug Ingle and the rest of the best lineup Iron Butterfly had there wasn't enough good material to fill an LP. Most of the rest of Sun and Steel and practically all of the album Scorching Beauty sound derivative and like we've all heard the stuff before. However, this song Scorching Beauty is a classic--no doubt about it.
Ese mellotron subyuga. Sin estar en su momento de esplendor y ya con cambios significativos en su sonido y formación originales, Iron Butterfly consiguio con esta una de sus mejores canciones.
Gorgeous song, one of my favorites from Iron Butterfly. Kinda bittersweet that it’s the last IB song from the last IB album, but it is, as the song says, a “scorching beauty.” And the rest of the album in my opinion is excellent too. It may not have sold diddly back in the day, but at least Iron Butterfly went out on an artistic high with “Sun And Steel,” and this kick-ass final song. 😊
As a kid I'd listen to Gadda and read the back of the album cover, Erik Brann's mini bio always intrigued me.Never knew he could sing. Doug Ingle should have given him more of a chance. RIP.
Braun had a limited range vocally. His other notable IB song is Termination, for which his vocals were well suited. His vocal abilities weakened as he got a bit older, perhaps due to his congenital heart condition from which he died quite young.
Chicago like a lot of bands had great music in the first half of the 70’s, mainstream but good. Music changed and it turned into a hit 45 market place. Just ask Journey or Grand Funk. From heavy progressive richly to 13 year old girls swooning. That is why Punk and metal’s rebirth in 1980 had to happen. To save rock. Same reason there are so many heavy rock bands now.
