- A customer sent over this SEGA chihiro type 3 motherboard for repair.
I thought I would make a nice video out of it!
Sadly 100% of these arcade computers will die just like this one without maintenance.
The gpu fan will wear out due to it running 24/7 in arcades and since the original xbox motherboard thats inside does not have gpu thermal protection it will literally burn itself out.
GPU's from xbox revision 1.0 until 1.5 are compatible.
to test the board im booting into a 5455 xblade devkit bios.

I did not actually, usually I do as a standard maintenance procedure but these looked perfect.
customer can solder so if it becomes a problem he can swap them out.

Is it possible to upgrade to a better gpu? Maybe with one of those laptop gpu replacement extension cables to an mxm or full size board? Just looking for a new project 😂 dont mind me!
The original xbox revision 1.6 XGPU-B is better but its not backwards compatible.

@@RedOverlord The XBOX V1.6 has bugs, in 720p, 1080i and 16/9.
No, its kernel and bios are prepared to work only with the specified hardware. Its GPU doesn't even exist on the consumer market, it's a kind of GF4 prototype, game programming expects specific features from this GPU (which are not present in other desktop ones) the only thing you can do on this console is to upgrade the processor and RAM memory.
The closest you can come to improving image quality is to adapt an HDMI mod directly to the test points on the motherboard, where you will get a clean, crystal-clear signal, superior to any HDMI mod using the standard cable connection. console. Version 1.6 was also entirely manufactured in China, and had major changes in production quality (for the worse). In my experience, version 1.0 ~ 1.1 does not have a very good analog signal processor, and from 1.5 onwards this processor is not so good again. Is this an original xbox that has been used in a Sega cabinet?
Kind of, its not really an xbox.
If you google "Sega chihiro type 3" and then images you can see it doesnt look like an xbox at all.
Its a system developed by sega with a "modified" original xbox motherboard inside of it that does the heavy lifting.
Im using an original xbox shell for testing purposes only.
this motherboard with a chihiro bios will not function at all in a regular xbox chassis.
if google says : The Sega Chihiro: an officially-licensed arcade cabinet powered by the Xbox's motherboard : r/originalxbox ,, so ? i can turn and old xbox in a sega chihiro ? , is the same board ?????
there is a tutorial out there somewhere that tells you how to convert a retail xbox motherboard to chihiro.
but you also need a chihiro chassis, its not just an xbox that powers it there are many sega specific parts that connect to the xbox board.

@@jm036 I don't know, but if there is a way to do it, I can do it. I also have a reballing machine and I can make the necessary modifications if there is a way , I didn't even know there was such a thing as Chihiro, I'm just now watching and studying it.
