In this video, I take a journey back to the Xbox 360 era as we approach the final days of its digital store. I explore some of the best deals and hidden gems still available, while also testing how well the system holds up in 2024. Along the way, I uncover some surprising insights about backwards compatibility and the importance of preserving these classic games.

What do you mean the slim lost the ability to easily swap the hard drive? You just take the door off on the right side and pull the tab.
Yes, exactly. Austin saying that was kinda weird.
You don't even need a screwdriver to take the cover off.
Because you lost like 30 seconds it's loses the ability to be swapped easily 😂😂🤷♀️
I was thinking about what he said and was confused. It was way better than the original 360. Made the console look more neat and squared away.
I think it’s cus the first one was a little more simple but still very weird. At least it wasn’t like the ps2 going to the slim ps2 where you just lose hard drive support all together
This is why Backwards compatibility is so important. It helps with game preservation.
But I mean, Xbox 360 games will still be in the library as backwards compatible right?
@@carloszerpa2312 As of today only 29% of 360 and 6% of OG Xbox games are compatible with One / Series. Granted those few games run very well and its more than PS & Nintendo offer on current gen, buts its still a pretty small selection
@@carloszerpa2312yes
@@carloszerpa2312not all of them are backwards compatible.

$50 dollars for an inferior version of BO3 in 2024? Screw you, Activision.
The servers have been shut down too 🤣
Shouldn't that be screw you Micro$oft?😏
@@SeeDaRipper... Screw both! 🤣
@@gentle285 👍
@@SeeDaRipper... True but, Activision has kept high prices on their old games even before they were bought out.
When my brother got a PS3, he gave me his Xbox 360 Arcade as a hand-me-down. Both the Wii and 360 were both my life during the 7th generation.
What a time to be alive
PS3 servers are still going on, thankfully.
I kinda feel like buying a PS3, I admire how Sony is still keeping their servers up.
@@Itskfxyeah, but don't buy it expecting to play online, most people have switched to at least ps4 or have stop playing. I reccomend softmodding with hen so you can play whatever you want, it's super easy.
@@Itskfxbuy it you wont regret it but if you want to play old cod games id get a series s or x instead
i've had my ps3 for as long as i can remember and made plenty of memories with it, got a 2nd ps3 for free, bought a wii just two weeks ago for its unique ergonomics and party-focused nature, and now i'm thinking of filling out the trio and buying an xbox 360 just for the hell of it
the only exclusive that i'm interested in playing is forza horizon 1, though there's also the factor of better optimization for 3rd party games over the ps3, anyway it might be worth it considering the insanely low costs for a 7th gen console these days, and my current pc is just barely too weak without overclocking to run fh1 at what i consider a playable framerate
'It's the worst version of Skyrim' Clearly you've never played the PS3 version
literally… I remember in 2013 playing Skyrim for the first time and it was on ps3… the amount of times it would crash was insane.
Actually just tried skyrim on ps3 last night, honestly had me thinking there was just something wrong with the console lol
I'm still playing Skyrim on the 360 and its awesome.
My sibling fell asleep on the loading screen. For 30 mins i thought they were playing till i went to check on them. Knocked out cold lol
Funny thing it was probably the best one, the og PC was unstable shit and PS3 was ass too. But this is your ignorant evans so there
Can't believe the 360 is as old now as the Atari 7800 was when the 360 came out. That's absolutely crazy!
When I was 10 I got the OG Black Xbox 360 Elite in 2009 MW2 and Halo 3 being my first games, nothing will ever top gaming like that time period, so glad I got to grow up with it!
I agree. I remember when Halo 3 came out. Pre ordered, waited for months and bought the elite with it. Definately a time in gaming I will always remember.
360 slim for Xmas was the greatest gift I’ve ever received
360 controllers is the most comfortable controllers hands down in my opinion.
They're certainly comfortable but, in my opinion, they're a little too small. The newer xbox controllers feel better to me.
I think I like the series controlers a little better but it's close.
I prefer the Duke. It fits my hand perfectly and doesn't inflame my arthritis.
@@TheZoenGaming all the Xbox controllers are goated honestly
The duke is the most comfortable. 360 is the gold standard for any age, it's also very, extremely, ridiculously durable.
Since the One... they feel like toys. It's such a cheap plastic.
I'll never buy a new Microsoft controller ever again. I'm sticking with Gamesir for life or until a better company comes along.
The towel trick 😂😂😂😂
What a time
Baking the 360. 🤣
The slim let you upgrade the hard drive you had to remove the grill on one of the Sides
r.i.p to a great console
A console that had a piss-poor launch, but managed to recover and become one of the world's best-selling consoles.
@@OctavioGaitan mainly because they kept dying and you either had to send it in or buy a new one. I went through 12 of those things and ive had a few friends who went through more than that.
Not really get it modded and get the games it will be easier when the shutdown
a great console.......as long as it isnt the launch models, cuz those are pieces of E Waste
@@OctavioGaitan The PS3 has more sells. What are you talking about?
I had the original model and it never red ringed for me. still have it sitting in the house collecting dust. gunna have to turn it on one last time and enjoy some of my classics
Don't forget to clean and repaste it before!
My favorite gaming memory was firing up Halo 3 on my Halo edition 360 on Christmas morning. RIP in peace. Gahhh I wish I still had that console
RIP to my childhood and teenage years
I legit just went from my 360 to a series x 3 weeks ago lol
What an upgrade 😭
I can only imagine the jump in graphics 💀
@mad576wastaken havent really played the 360 in a while, mostly switch and steam deck and far as consoles go recently. But still a massive improvement for couch gaming. Loving game pass catalog.. just need more time to get through it haha
I just did the same thing. But now I am back on the 360 more because of all the great sells over the past few months.
What I miss the most is being able to put a disc in and it being ready to play immediately not having to wait for it to download even after buying the disc version
this is how i spent my teenage years not going out to parties not drinking i was busy finishing the fight
Damn I have a lot of Xbox 360 games from that era I think over 50
Lol, you can swap out the hard drive on both the S and E.
wait till he finds out :)
2:14 The original 20 GB version of the PS3 did not have Wi-Fi either.
Sure, but that was a budget Japan only version within the lineup, not the only version you could buy.
@@wyterabitt2149 No, that model was also available in the US.
@@Le_Grand_Rigatoniagain not in the rest of the world and not the only version u could buy.
The PS3, 360 and Wii era was gaming at its peak. We had so much creative innovation with franchises and alot of memorable classics from that console generation. It's thanks to the success of the 360 Sony actually had to step it up, because their $599 pricing for PS3 in 2006 made them come off as they tried to become the Apple of home consoles/gaming.
The saddest part is that newer generations will have no idea of what it was like even if they play all the games from that era.
The set and setting is extremely important. The society, the culture, the music; the kind of displays we all had, from the last, most advanced CRT's to the newer LCDs. It all came with a vibe that you cannot replicate today because now you know you are faking it for just a moment in your room and that's it.
Gaming is gone as we knew it for decades. It's time for the indie scene and mod communities to shine like never before.
Just shows how easily people are tricked really. Sony is also not Microsoft with practically infinite money, who could subsidise all aspects of the development costs and then subsidise the cost of the console much heavier than the competition.
One of my favourite cult classic games (de Blob and de Blob 2) was released during this era and I agree.
Nice to know you are one of those

5:20 the moment in which Austin realized that American FOOTball is, instead HANDEGG.
Ah yes, the towel trick. I remember using that trick so much in my dorm room. Eventually I just let my 360 die until I got a slim a year later.
I used an Ethernet bridge for my Wii, PS3, and 360. It was $70 and was capable of faster connections-Wireless N-than the $100 OEM dongle.
every video you make is a blend of great teaching and great entertainment!
There are over 200 non-backward compatible games for the 360, with many of them not having a physical release. Plus, you won't be able to buy any DLC for 360 games, even if you have it on disc.
More like over 2000
There are over 4000 non-backwards compatible 360 games
RGH is the only way to preserve xbox 360 games now
Then it's time to start pirating!
@@starzhvh Ahh the old reset glitch hack consoles. I had one back in the day that would sometimes take a minute to boot or 20 minutes. This was back when they first came out with the slim consoles. Just look at FH and FH2 and its DLC. It's gone from store, no possible way to purchase it, or play it. Homebrew and hacking enable that kind of content that gets delisted to still be available to people who want it. Archiving and playing older content is a good thing. Not even being able to purchase it anymore is a total shame. I'd have loved to play FH2's DLC, even the Fast and the furious version of the game etc. But without a viable XB1 mod there's simply no way to. I'd buy it if possible, but because of licenses it has to basically disappear forever
.
Not the legendary console ending on my birthday 😢
The 360 and PS2 are tied as my favorite consoles ever.
WoW, my brother's all-time favorite console's store is shutting down on his birthday, weird.
I play the 360 as much as my series X, it’s still a super fun console to play and the games hold up pretty good.
Dude every single shot is a thing of art
Funny part is my 360 Kinect lost it when you were talking as well 😂
You HAD to blur the cover of GTAV? Like... for real? 🤣
Can I get an F in the comment section to pay our respects to the Xbox 360?
It’s been bad since the Metro days so I’ve lost all respect for it

That red ring of death with Majora’s Mask clock sound bit 👌
Good thing you can still buy discs for it
Oh, We All Remember The OG “Duke” Controller of The OG Xbox.
Austin getting hyped for Mirror’s Edge made me smile. Love those games and I’d honestly love if we got another one someday.
Dusting it off once I get home
I noticed that Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena is still available digitally on the 360 for $15. It sadly didn't make it to the backwards compatibility program.
Anyone know Austin's old channel link???
i still have my console ... but power button turns red..
the moment i saw bo3 i was like "theres no way its discountered", i mean, after all its activison
I might get one of these at some-point,for nostalgia sake(Also I have a Wii U and my cousin had one as well, they where surprisingly good)
360 era was a peak gaming
Man I was so lucky I never experienced the red ring of death and I still have it lol. It sits on a self in my office
I love how you're not using a modern day TV or monitor to go along with it.
I have my 360 hooked up to a Widescreen Philips CRT. I think I need to play my Series X that way now.
Finally someone who knows what The Gunstringer is. That game was my life.
I still have my Xbox 360 to this day & it brings back so much Nostalgia. I went on a shopping spree in the last few months but I’m going to get a few more things before the 360 Store is gone forever🔥👍
I had one that red ringed. Ended up buying a one
Instead of a PS4 ?! What a stupid move lmaooo 😆🤣
After hearing the news I started my 360 slim to play some OG Most Wanted and Project Gotham Racing 4.
I still remember seeing the 360 over a friends house when they were playing gears of war and my eyes were truly amazed!!
My childhood 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I remember Skyrim took AGEEEES to load. It took like a full minute so you could play again after opening a door. When the Xbox One came I played the whole game again and it was super fast.
I was actually cleaning a closet the other day and my old 360 was just sitting there. We plugged it back in and relived all the old Minecraft worlds my kids built.
Im pretty sure that if you buy an xbox 360 game on a 360 and use the same account as your xbox one/series and it is backwards compatible it will be in your library on the newer consoles.
You had to have 3 of these systems in rotation with how common the red ring was in the beginning! I almost miss it haha.
None of the Ps3s I had had that.( Ps3 fat, Super Slim, Slim).
Had my OG quite awhile before it red ringed. Then I got the MW2 Elite. That was a workhorse that never broke down.
@@hurricane7727 the ps3 fat was prone to the same issues that xbox faced mainly due to similar design flaws the only difference is the ps3s "RROD" was called the YLOD
Yellow light of death this was when they would turn on display a yellow light beep 3 times and shut off. the unleaded solder they used for the consoles back in 2006 was shitty and caused cold solder joints between the chips after so many power cycles or if it got too hot and cooled off too quick
crazily enough i have my 06 Xenon console i got on release still going strong never red ringed on me yet.
@@starzhvh Ps3 fat yylod at least happened rarely then. My ps3 fat never had that Issue and I had it for years. It wasn't the Ps3 FT Bc Model
HWY AUSTIN did GameStop really just do the towel trick when u went to take it in
This video reminded me to go onto the store and purchase DLC for Saints Row, Black Ops and Black Ops II. Feel a ton better :)
A ton of the best memories with this console 😢
Great video legend and my first Xbox was a Xbox 360 black one elite with Forza 3 and Halo 3 odst bundle 🥳, also have a Xbox 360 E too which helped with better cooling. Great memories and great console. Both of my X360 still work. 🎉🎉❤
😂😂 I still got both my 360s. I remember that towel trick and then people made videos on how to do the repair yourself. Yup back n them days. 😢 miss it sometimes it was a simpler time.
Swapping out the hard drive on the slim was just as easy as the first 360
I had my Xbox 360 when it first came out. The first generation of it. My red ring of death I got a full replacement with mine because I had a warranty
Also wild that I had a day one 360 that never red ringed on me.
Could you explain how I can still buy games? I can't get my card to work. It's like it's already shut down.
360 Games will still be available on the Xbox One/Series Store right? So could a 360 game be purchased after from a Series X and downloaded to the 360 even after the 360 store is “closed”?
I had a first gen 360 never got the red ring of death..I only upgraded to the slim after my sister gave me one for my birthday.
1:51 You're gravely mistaken Austin..
You CAN swap out the hard drive, or mod it to have an SSD with the proper peripheral(s) by popping out the left side of the console. (Xbox 360S)
Diggin' the TV, the Panasonic TH-42PX60U. I had the 600U version. Great plasma TV. I only upgraded in 2011 because I wanted 55", 1080p, and 3D.
Thank god i saw this vid... I have a 360 E and i just turned it on and it works after 9 years
If you want access to all of these games, there are people online who have them readily available for download. You will need an RGH to play them but at least you will still be able to play on the original hardware
My Xbox 360 gets red ring all the time. I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was fixed.
13:42 I bought my xbox on my old xbox with only xbox gift cards :)
*Holy crap. I will switch on my 360 in the morning and DL all the demos!!!*
At the _Mirror's Edge_ part - "Oh crap search for game updates for all my discs!"
xbox 360 controller was my first controller, will always love it
Red ring of deathhhh. Ohh no. Also, the lazer would burn or cut into the disk. I lost my patience
That Wi-Fi dongle was absolutely the most unreliable beauty it kicked me out of many halo reach lobbies but damn it came in clutch my neighbors didn’t have a password for there Wi-Fi
That's why it was booting you, it was extremely reliable had one and used it daily for 8 years
i used a wifi repeater for all of my 360s they were like 17 bucks and so reliable. wifi repeater connected to your router via WPS and connected to the console via ethernet.
1:45 I got my Xbox 360 on launch day and used it for 6 years😂 in fact I think I might still have it and it's still working😅
what a console what a generation of hardware the nostalgia
Perhaps I'm mistaken but are 360 games not on the latest consoles? Your tone near the end almost felt as if all these backward compatible games were just going to disappear.
Any games you own that are backwards compatible will show up on the latest console. You can't buy 360 games you don't already own using the latest console (and you won't be able to buy 360 games from a 360 either once the store closes), and any game that isn't on the backwards compatible list won't show up to play on the latest console even if you own it.
As long as you own the digital copy on the 360, it should show up in your games list on the newer xbox's if they are backwards compatible.
no longer have the ability to easily swap out the hard drive? it was a clip out panel and a tag to pull to get it out on the slim, how is that not easy?
Still use my 360 as my guitar hero/rock band box
I still have my R2D2 Xbox 360 and I'm still collecting physical games for it
Ah the Xbox 360. One of my first gaming consoles. Played so much Black Ops 2 and so much GTAV when it came out before heading to school. I'd say it stands the test of time alongside the PS3.
Lasted so much longer than the Wii U and 3DS stores at least!
It's funny how almost everything that's backwards compatible isn't on sale
Getting home from school playing black ops 2 was the best Xbox 360 was awsome 😎
I spent years playing FC2 and never finished it. Was soooo much to do
Good thing I got hard copy's of my 360 games
Xbox 360 elite didn’t need a WiFi adapter? Way before the elite?
Dented Momentum.... awesome band name!
I'm in the UK and ''hand ball'' is an obscure sport here as well, I'm with Austin on that one.
16 days to get the games you want before the store closes....😢
farcry 2 was insane when it came out, its my 2nd favorite of the series only to FC3.
The 360 was my first Xbox after having the s1 & ps2. Still on Xbox now which my kids use.
