If you have a Fire Emblem song that appears to go for 8 minutes, that always means it's actually just 4 minutes long and loops halfway through, as video games tend to do.
This was the one Fire Emblem song everyone had been waiting for. Besides God Shattering Star, this is my second favorite OST from the series. Absolutely crazy songs befitting that of a final battle.
Fire Emblem is indeed a Japanese franchise. It's co-owned by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo. This particular entry is a remake of the second game which was originally on the Famicom, and Three Houses which you reacted to before is the 16th entry in the rpg franchise. Not counting spinoffs.
This is less common for fire emblem though, the trope appearing in only 7/16 games Medeus, Veld, Idunn, Fire Dragon, Ashnard, and 3h bosses that I won't name (recent enough for spoilers to still kinda matter) are all not gods, while Duma, Loptous, Formotiis, Ashera, Grima, and Anankos are gods or basically gods by FE standards
@@valarmis honestly out of all there bosses, ashera is the only "god",idk about anankos but those guys are basically dark/divine dragons but they arent upto the same level as naga who is indeed a "god"
Two things I like about this song: 1) "Twilight" has two meanings that fit this song well: it's both the kind of refracted light you see as the sun sets, and it's also a state of obscurity or gradual decline. As such, the name of this song suggests that the day is at an end for the Gods, which is quite thematic for what's happening in the game at that time. 2) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the chord progression also features slash chords, with the leitmotif playing over a shifting base note. I think this progression is (in Gmaj scale) vi, vi/IV, vi/ii, vi/iii when the track begins. I feel like this illustrates the feeling of twilight quite well. The base note gradually falls, then rises slightly at the end, much like the sun sets as the moon rises. All of this within the context of a higher minor chord, which represents the kind of diminished light we have at sunset.
Another fun fact: Twilight of the Gods translates to Ragnarok which also is the death of the Norse gods giving rise to an age of men. It is also Celica’s unique weapon art.
Yeah I like that analysis, and I think you're generally right with the chords there. But since the song is in E minor rather than G Major I'd write it as i/i, i/VI, i/iv, and i/V.
Fire Emblem never misses when it comes to a soundtrack. Also, I think Blue Skies and Battle, and Between Heaven and Earth would be great to react to because they’re the same song, but “Between Heaven and Earth” is the remixes version
Got a big grin seeing this in my subscription box. Been looking forward to this one. The pianist for these tracks is crazy, especially for this and, "The Scion's Dance in Purgatory."
Shadows of Valentia has a lot of good songs, glad you enjoyed it. I hope you can react one day to "Lord of a Dead Empire" of this game too. Good video!
Melancholy and hopefulness are definitely the name of the game for this theme. Some basic lore: within the FE universe, dragons never die of old age, but if they live for too long, they will degenerate, which basically means they go mad. Exceptionally powerful dragons are worshipped as gods, as they can provide boons to their people through their magic. For instance. Mila was known to have blessed Zofia with fertile lands and bountiful harvests, and Naga has provided humanity with dragon slaying weaponry such that they can strike down degenerate dragons when the time comes. The process of the god Duma degenerating and having his sister Mila (who was also starting to degenerate) sealed away is what kickstarts the events of the game. The final map where this theme plays is essentially the main characters putting Duma out of his misery, hence the melancholy, while the hopefulness comes from the mortals taking charge to fight for the right to shape their own futures, culminating when Alm strikes the final blow, and Duma regains his sanity for a brief moment and basically entrusts the future of the continent to Alm and Celica.
Not gonna lie, I did try to pick up on the "insane" piano run and found the part rather doable, except for the end of the run where there's a MASSIVE jump to complicate it a good chunk more than it already was. (I suppose it's been 8 years of me studying the piano but yeah) This song is fricking amazing, and apparently the choir's lyrics are a mixture of Latin and English words. I can't recall them at the moment though.
You seemed much more calm and very tired compared to other videos I've seen of you. I hope you're doing well. The sections where you illustrated the core progressions with small pieces of the track on your guitar were much more interesting and "lively" than usual. It made me feel that you brought more insights than usual and that you went deeper during the breakdown. I don't know how much more time it took you, but I hope you'll do it regularly!
The FE Echoes OST is amazing. A little note, the second half of the composition when the chord progression changes is just the main theme of the game that sounds on the title screen, wich is more epic sounding on the final battle. Great breakdown btw, it's cool to see new details that I didn't notice before.
YES! Ever since you reacted to God-shattering Star I've been waiting for you to react and break down my all time favorite Fire Emblem track and one of my favorites video game tracks of all time. Thank you for the video! I want to add something. The leitmotif is one that's used thorough the entire game in several different tracks, from the very opening, so when it comes back in such a grand, epic orchestra for the final battle, where this track plays, it creates an astounding sense of finale that truly elevates the song in my eyes. And that climax at 5:07 is 👌😫 Fates and Three Houses, the other games whose tracks you reacted, also do this amazingly well.
I didn't expect this song to be reacted to, but this is amazing, since I actually played FE: SOV. Next Fire Emblem song I'd like to hear you react to is "Funeral of Flowers", which is the only FE: Three Houses final map song you haven't reacted to, since you already did "Apex of the World" and "God-Shattering Star". Another song is "Between Heaven and Earth", from the same game, which perfectly captures the atmosphere of the game at that point.
A solid followup to this track is "What lies at the end" from the same game. That and this track were the two tipping points I needed to get in to the series and now I'm 3 games deep and all the happier for it.
This actually DOES, indeed have lyrics. They definitely aren’t clear though, as they’re spoken by a Japanese chorus in Latin and English. That piano solo build up hit me hard, and got me hyped! Especially when a character says a quote at the right moment for that build, the best if not the greatest of fights in video gaming history, and what a soundtrack
After playing a game for 20+ hours, this is the final map. All of the tragedy, all of the effort and build up, hearing this song come on makes it all worth it. Especially if you'd played Gaiden before it. Absolute banger.
Also, I didn't see a comment address it, but the song does play twice because I'm the game it loops, so I guess they loop it once just so you get that effect
Something that can't be noticed just from listening to the track alone is how it does the classic final battle theme thing where it incorporates motifs from the main theme, or in this case the opening theme Omen and the title screen theme Echoes.
Definitely want him to listen to Fire Emblem Awakening's *_(ID) Purpose_* . That part about 2 minutes in is just god teir. That or *_"Don't Say her Name"_* (not sure if that's the actual title but that's what it is in the 3DS and on TH-cam)

Shadow Dragon DS Remake (absolute masterpiece Story and gameplay, infinitively replayable) 2. Fate Conquest ( the gameplay is extremely fresh extremely fun, Story and Charts are garbo so Skip Button is the best character ) 3. Echoes (gameplay is an utterly draining experience, but the Produktion value and epic vibe holy shit. Bad DLC though 4. Awakening (my first FE game, revisiting it really showed me how lacking the Strategy in this RPG is. Character are fun though even if the Macro Story is bad. In this game being op is the most fun) 5.Original Shadow Dragon (Its too outdated for me and almost redundant since I love the fast paced remake so much. I would like to see your list too.
The reason why the melody is so simple is because it’s a rearrangement of an 8-Bit track for the NES.
Honor to the 8bit and 16bit era composers
Also a fun fact, this song was a generic “something is happening” theme. The remake of the game elevated it to a full on final boss theme.

can you make a reaction to ------ by x0o0x_?
ah yes, the game that redeemed fate's sins, but was later slayed by three houses.
RIP Good Fire Emblem Games I'll miss you, goodbye medieval series...
Hi degenerate bullshit... I don't want to look at your ugly three fodlans! where is Tellius? why is it gone!?!?!?
I kinda get what you mean but I still afore the things New FEs do right.
Here is a ranking of the games I played if you like comparing tastes.
1. Shadow Dragon DS Remake (absolute masterpiece Story and gameplay, infinitively replayable)
2. Fate Conquest ( the gameplay is extremely fresh extremely fun, Story and Charts are garbo so Skip Button is the best character )
3. Echoes (gameplay is an utterly draining experience, but the Produktion value and epic vibe holy shit. Bad DLC though
4. Awakening (my first FE game, revisiting it really showed me how lacking the Strategy in this RPG is. Character are fun though even if the Macro Story is bad. In this game being op is the most fun)
5.Original Shadow Dragon (Its too outdated for me and almost redundant since I love the fast paced remake so much.
I would like to see your list too.
