Back when I was a teenager in the 80's I was becoming a drummer I was raised on a lot of heavy metal and hard rock. I guess at the time I wanted to party and just play loud and fast. At the time the Police were everywhere with this album and on the radio and MTV. As I got older I became exposed to different styles and time signatures. Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, and Dave Lombardo were my favorite drummers. I knew who the Police were and some of their songs but I guess I wanted to hear loud distorted guitars, bass, and heavy drums. I always liked this song and it always stuck in my head. Now years later and having listened to all different kinds of music and watching different drummers on TH-cam I have newfound respect for Stewart Copeland's drumming and I really like how explains what he's playing and his approach to the drums. @@definitelynotcainan3353 I am a drummer myself, so that's his skill that I appreciate the most, but he is definitely a great man of many talents.
not even remotely close. "best" should never EVER be used for this hack. YES - HACK!
@vintagemxer9165 😆 I can't say I agree the drummer from The Police could be considered a "hack", but everyone's entitled to their own opinion...
@@definitelynotcainan3353 Being a percussionist is much easier than being a drummer.
I bet you good money that Copeland couldn't play that fretless bass worth a crap.
Wow, that was remarkable. True musicians like this are no longer being rewarded.
I'm pretty sure this guy is filthy rich and has all kinds of awards and gets to do whatever he wants.
3 MEN/ SORRY ARTISTS
WILL NEVER BE EQUALED LIVE ON STAGE
FOR THE MUSIC MADE
HONORED TO HAVE LIVED IN THE AGE...
AND HAD MY EARS TOUCHED BY THE WAVES...
THANK YOU ANDY, STEWART, AND STING, YOU REALLY ARE HALL OF FAME MEN.
Bravo Stewart. I was lucky to see both performances in L.A and San Diego
Now that's a great musician. Also one of my favourite bands of all time 😊
I watch this every couple months. Gorgeous orchestration
Stewart is the most unique & hard-working, & astute drummer & composer, of many, long-standing years. This is eye-candy for the soul... in sound... 🤩🌸✨💫💜
He seems like he's a nice guy and respectful of other drummers in his interviews. Anyway, I love this song and his playing on it. 🥁
Perfection on all counts.
Never was a fan of the original album version of this song. However this version shows it's true heart.
the original version is epic.. why not? It sounds almost identical to this/
The video from the 80s though is my favorite music video of all time
I like this version… No background vocalists, no extra keyboards, just the raw trio arrangement 👍
Stew had always been a beast of percussionist , performer and legend 😊
One word .....Phenomenal!!
!Le Roy
You’re killing on this live version Stewart! Love from Brazil ❤🇧🇷
I love this video. Can't stop watching/listening to it.
I've never been so inspired and discouraged at the same time! I'll never ever ever be able to play anything close to Stewart Copeland...The undisputed 🐐 Goat of percussion
Genius, I remember back in the early 80’s most music novices thought you had to have a big drum kit to be acknowledged as a real drummer. Steward never disappoints 🙌
So him having 75 cymbals, a xylophone, multiple tambourines, and other accompanying percussion instruments doesnt count as “big”; so big he walks to another kit? Ok……
While he is an absolute genius drummer/musician, I dont think your comment is applicable!
@@talonpilot That isn't a drum kit. His drum kit is his drum kit and it's moderately sized.
Love this! That first snare snap though...omg
So glad my brother introduced me to the Police when I started playing drums. I was listening to alot of metal then and when I heard Stewart Copeland's playing it was awesome! I really enjoyed this performance.
The 1st UK band who teach us English lessons so beautifully
