Back when I was a teenager in the 80's I was becoming a drummer I was raised on a lot of heavy metal and hard rock. I guess at the time I wanted to party and just play loud and fast. At the time the Police were everywhere with this album and on the radio and MTV. As I got older I became exposed to different styles and time signatures. Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, and Dave Lombardo were my favorite drummers. I knew who the Police were and some of their songs but I guess I wanted to hear loud distorted guitars, bass, and heavy drums. I always liked this song and it always stuck in my head. Now years later and having listened to all different kinds of music and watching different drummers on TH-cam I have newfound respect for Stewart Copeland's drumming and I really like how explains what he's playing and his approach to the drums. He seems like he's a nice guy and respectful of other drummers in his interviews. Anyway, I love this song and his playing on it. 🥁
To call Stewart Copeland a mere drummer is a disservice... He is a master percussionist AND multi instrumentalist and composer. There is not a single instrument on that stage that he cannot play to a highly professional level. He is a prodigous PURE musician.
@@definitelynotcainan3353 Being a percussionist is much easier than being a drummer. I bet you good money that Copeland couldn't play that fretless bass worth a crap.
I played timpani all throughout high school and college in my schools' symphonic bands. Those days are long gone and I haven't played in years, but I still like seeing rock drummers incorporate them into their playing. Stewart does an excellent job making use of timpani in the choruses. I've watched this video about four times since stumbling upon it this week.
Philly Joe Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., Harvey Mason, Billy Cobham, Stewart Copeland - my all time favorite drummers and influences, in different ways. (Sammy was a top notch tap dancer and also played the drums really well.) But Stewart Copeland always stood out for me. Listening to him drumming with The Police was and still is very very humbling. When I was a teen I simply couldn't even understand what he was playing - it was so creative, unpredictable and virtuoso. And tight, tight, tight. I was listening to and playing almost exclusively bebop/jazz/funk at the time. The Police was the only rock band whose music really, really fascinated me. (And Stewart's drumming scared me. How could anyone be this good? So unbound from convention? So steeped in dub?) Their music is still so musically rich and sonically exciting. One of the best bands ever, no question. (The only thing I disliked were some of the guitar solos, hah!) Wrapped Around Your Finger is and remains a masterpiece of music and one of my all time favorite tracks. It immediately immerses my mind in an archetypal story kind of mode. Thank you for the music and all the emotions.
So glad my brother introduced me to the Police when I started playing drums. I was listening to alot of metal then and when I heard Stewart Copeland's playing it was awesome! I really enjoyed this performance.

You made me want to be a drummer when I was a little boy in the 80s, and you inspire my playing still to this day. Thank you for sharing your joy of drumming with all of us.
After all these years, still one of the best drummers in the world. Such an original talent, thanks for a lifetime of incredible music!!
To call Stewart Copeland a mere drummer is a disservice... He is a master percussionist AND multi instrumentalist and composer. There is not a single instrument on that stage that he cannot play to a highly professional level. He is a prodigous PURE musician.
@@definitelynotcainan3353 I am a drummer myself, so that's his skill that I appreciate the most, but he is definitely a great man of many talents.
not even remotely close. "best" should never EVER be used for this hack. YES - HACK!
@vintagemxer9165 😆 I can't say I agree the drummer from The Police could be considered a "hack", but everyone's entitled to their own opinion...
@@definitelynotcainan3353 Being a percussionist is much easier than being a drummer.
I bet you good money that Copeland couldn't play that fretless bass worth a crap.
Copeland was one of the drummers who made me fall in love with the ride sound.
one of the most beautiful drum melody sets to watch...
When the heavens were raining cats and dogs..... stewart was there and caught a lot of passion and talent for music
Such a beautiful rendition. Never fails to move me. As for Stewart... just amazing.
(The only thing I disliked were some of the guitar solos, hah!)
Wrapped Around Your Finger is and remains a masterpiece of music and one of my all time favorite tracks. It immediately immerses my mind in an archetypal story kind of mode.
Thank you for the music and all the emotions.
Bravo Stewart. I was lucky to see both performances in L.A and San Diego
Andy’s riffs and layered Telecaster melodies were so underrated.
As ever. But he’s the perfect foil for the other goings on. 🤍
There's only one. Thank you, Mr. Copeland for the genius that is you.
Stewart Copeland A true drums artist 👏👏🥁🥁👍👍
So glad my brother introduced me to the Police when I started playing drums. I was listening to alot of metal then and when I heard Stewart Copeland's playing it was awesome! I really enjoyed this performance.
I think all musicians respect Stewart - regardless of what instrument they play. It's just a joy to see him play.
I remember seeing thus on MTV or VH1 or HBO or whoever broadcast the reunion concert. I was impressed then but seeinb thus now is just leaving awestruck and appreciating this man's talent so much more.
